that was a joke of a game. we played completly crap!!!

why would a magpies player kick the ball down the line to a contest when he has 3 players lose on the side of him with half of the ground open and 2 of them were from the midfield.

tazza and rocca have 2 players on them and they still try and kick the ball to them. also tazza goes 1 way and the ball goes completly the other direction to which tazza is leading to.

they all have to takle the opposition not be afraid of them. imagine if we played the lions 1st game phoa we would of copped it. looks like no finals this year again for us at this stage

The reason our forwards have 2 or 3 covering them , is because if they havnt, our blokes will hold it up untill they have ,well it seems that way any way.

The first two, most definitely, the last...well, if by 'we' you mean you & I, definitely. The players, no. But more importantly, we dont have the confidence, the desire, or (at this point) the skills. After round 1 we are the 3rd worst team. Not quite as bad as Richmond & Hawthorn, but certainly a team that all coaches are marking down as an easy win (except Clarkson & Wallace of course).

Think about this: Neil Craig will be thanking his lucky stars that his team, who put up a valiant effort only to be shaded by WCE, have US this week rather than Footscray, Melbourne, or the Kangas!

And think about this: Who was the ONE team we just managed a win against in the first 1/2 of last season?

And think about this: A team that scored one goal seven in a quarter kicked more accurately than us. OK, thats enough thinking.

PS: excellent review as usual Johnno, but bloody depressing even though you didnt paint half as black a picture as the one I saw. (I woulda given Bucks 4.5 - one of his poorer games, but for obvious reasons, and I woulda given the extra half point to Neon. His goal shoulda lifted us thru the roof. I thought it was OOF!)But thats the point I guess, a team which cant be lifted by spectacular efforts like Neons goal & Tex's ball-tearer just has no heart. The 2003 team woulda won that by 75+.

But hey, we could all be singing a very different tune next week...

...well, its possible.

...sorta.

actually no. Even the side which have us as their #1 'bogey' team will be lickin' their lips. And even if we win, we've only beaten Adelaide...big deal.

It would require a gutsy, ugly, unyielding, hard fought 1-10 point win from behind to restore us to where we were just a week ago, with 6 goals 0 from Taz, & 5 or more from Tex with acting captain Rocca starring.

Flooding stops you going direct by putting stacks of people in the corridor - you have to chip it around otherwise you just kick it to a pack of opposition players sitting in the guts. Only time you can go direct is from a centre clearance, which was when we kicked alot of our goals. But as Darcy dominated we lost that opportunity.
.
What a load of crap. With Rocca, Tarrant & Walker in our forward line why cant they move the ball quickly & directly?

Thats the excuse used last year when we had no talls & had too chip it around. Whats the problem now?

Maybe Gerard Healey was right when he said we are a bunch of "B" & "C" grade players.
bs. how many times did we go to taz and rocca and they had two players to beat? plenty. you can only move it quick enough to beat a flood after a centre clearance. any other time and the flood runs in to cover your spine.
Dont know what game u watched but when u say "plenty" i would have said "hardly any". We moved the ball along both wings for most off, if not all game. On 3-4 occasions Tarrant led up to the wing & was ignored everytime.

Cam - he was good while he was on. Just IMO :)
Not sure how you can say that. Bucks had 1 touch in 18 minutes at one stage.

What do you do with a player like Rocca? He was so so dissapointing and you could go on and on maybe we will improve at the Dome? Oh for a functional forward combination!!!! MM needs to pull all stops out for a much more concerted effort for this week. I think it was a case of Collingwood letting the dogs in rather than the dogs taking charge have the cast of 1000,s in the coaching fraternity ever considered asking the players to man up?

R.Shaw doesn't deserve 7/10.
When u turnover the ball as much as he did on Monday,u deserve to be dropped.
By the way Johnno's game doesn't deserve a 7.5/10 either.

fair enough analysis jonno and i probs agree with most of the ratings on the player. Buckley's 5 may be high but he was the only 1 all day who provided a penetrating pass to a leading forward. Took a good tackle too. So i can see where ur coming from.

Why not? I thought he was excillent. Gave us run (as normal) and never stopped trying.
