Flooding stops you going direct by putting stacks of people in the corridor - you have to chip it around otherwise you just kick it to a pack of opposition players sitting in the guts. Only time you can go direct is from a centre clearance, which was when we kicked alot of our goals. But as Darcy dominated we lost that opportunity.
.
What a load of crap. With Rocca, Tarrant & Walker in our forward line why cant they move the ball quickly & directly?

Thats the excuse used last year when we had no talls & had too chip it around. Whats the problem now?

Maybe Gerard Healey was right when he said we are a bunch of "B" & "C" grade players.
Healy is right. We are a bunch of B and C grade players. But when we all pull it together, we are an A grade side.

The chipping game is born from MM's original gameplan at Collingwood. It lives today. Is it time for a change?

Good posts Big T. Fanning, in my opinion, did a serviceable job, although at times in both performaces in the Black and White he has dropped simple marks. The confidence will come with experiance.

red scorpion45 wrote:BTW, Woewodin is the softest and slowest player to ever win a Brownlow, I hope were not paying him to much. no wonder Scotland got the shits and left as he must have been fed up with sitting on the bench all the time watching these other hacks get a run
That's harsh. Woey had an excillent season in 2000 and defintiely deserved it. He is a slow player, but one of the smartest and most streetwise going around. He has been a good pick up has he not?

DaVe86 wrote:slow yes, soft no. Last year woey was the only midfielder who stood up. He had a good year last year. Woewoedin puts his head over the ball. Perhaps in a pack situation he wooses out a bit but thats because of his size. Still i think id like to see mick use woey as the sweeper in defence and play jonno in the centre. Woewoedin could be used as a link up man getting cheap possessions and his pace wouldnt be a factor, whereas jonno's pace in the midfield would be handy. He is been wasted in defence. He needs more freedom.
Licca and Jonno both have claims to the best midfielder from last season - both finished equal with him in the 2004 B&F.

Jonno could be a typical rugged speedy midfielder. I just hope he gets more of a run in there this year.

Well, if Ant and Taz were being double and triple teamed, there must have been a few of our lads free somewhere.

Where were they?

In a parallel universe?

They were slacking it centre or back of centre, or else helping to clog up our forward line.

No they weren't they were loose in Footscray's forward line, Malthouse was too stupid to work out that instead of us having loose men in their forward line of midgets who couldn't take a contested mark to save themselves that the loose men should go forward and make their guys accountable, it is just bloody common sense really, but then again Malthouse hasn't displayed much common sense at all recently.

In the last quarter...there wasn't a real player that said to themselves...okay i'm going to step up...well, it shouldn't really be just one player the responsibility goes down to the senior players.
However, we can't start pointing fingers because the whole team let everyone down. We need to make some changes in the midfield. We need to start blooding the kids. We lacked a lot of run and we played against a side who were like Forrest Gump. They didn't have the muscle, however they beat us with leg speed and if you get the ball into ur forward half quickly...then it's hard for any opposition to be able to stop them.

Whenever Collingwood was getting the ball out of their defnsive half it was like watching a car going to hit someone in slow-mo it was too obvious that a turnover was going to occur. If they were going to win they had to play tighter and be harder at it....and learn that when an opposition player gets the ball you TACKLE them. The midfield is where the changes really have to be made.

The forward setup..u can't have tazza at ff. You can tell from his body language he didn't want to play there. He needs to run. We are still missing the little blokes in the forward half. But the delivery to the forward line is poor, so many times did kicks go over the head of our key marking forwards or out on the full.

I'll rad the whole thread later, just need to vent before i go back to bed to cry for the week.

COULD NOT have been a worse first game. Apart from Doggies breaking records, this just could not have been worse. My worst nightmare was that we were still the last quarter faders we were last year, but the pre-season, espesh the Richmond game gave me muchhope we had gotten over it, but a fifty five point turnaround! To lose to a team kicking ONE GOAL SEVEN in the third, to give up a 23 point lead. EVERYTHING I prayed not to see.

No way on earth could that team beat Adelaide, who very nearly knocked off West Coast. They will crucify us by 50+.

Positives? Walker & Neon both kicked their best goals ever. A decent team woulda won by 60 after Neons freak shot. Shaw excellent despite turnovers. Jimmy amazing. Cara quite good. No reports, no major injuries. (perhaps not so good, takes away our only excuse).

Negatives far too numerous to mention, but basically:
Gutless, lazy, slow, couldnt tackle a pillow, absolutely no skills, absolutely no confidence, absolutely no desire. Atrocious decision making both on the field, in the glass box, & at the selection table. First time I can ever say I saw Mick clearly & easily outcoached. Rowe should've played, Bucks should have rested.

Not calling for anyones head, and the dogs have clearly decided they have enough draft picks & might play this year. Their long list of talented players finally played to something like their ability. Thats why they took an expensive coach, unlike Adelaide & Hawthorn who will not be bothering, and so took cheap ones. Poor old tiges went the better coach option, but their list has less guts than us.

But I dont think I could live through another '04. I'd far rather be flogged by everybody than give up leads & get run over the top of week after week.

Next week will tell all. Richmond & Hawthorn already have lines thru their names, lose next week & you can add us. We'll know this time next week whether '03 GF & '04 season has destroyed too many of our players to keep us out of finals till turn of decade. How did that team beat Sydney & Port? Must've been foxing. One more like that & we'll finish worse than 13th. This game is 90% mental, and once they know you'll fade in the last it's over.

Lets just pray we're all terribly terribly wrong.
