Agreed Ben.

If MM continually blames others then it's the best way of losing the players.

By the way, if someone could answer the following for me I'd be grateful. As an interstater and someone who never actually played Aussie Rules I feel I still have a better than average knowledge of the game.

But one thing confuses me. If the Dogs line up a small forward line against talls like Presti & Wakes, why does our defence have to adjust by moving our regular talls somewhere else on the field or to the pine? Unless of course our talls are so disadvantaged by the mobility of the Dogs smalls. A tall defender against a small forward shouldn't be our liability should it?

Would the Lions for eg readjust their defence in the same situation or would Michael, Johnson etc just handle it?

Pathetic Pies - long year ahead.
We need a real coach with a game plan.
We hang on to the footy too long and end up kicking to a pack.
Open up the forward line and have players running on.
We need players with skill, pace, footy brains, aggression.
Too many slow players who can't kick on their wrong sides.
Too soft, too indecisive etc.
We have got worse since 2004, with only 2-3 players off best 22!
If we don't win next 3, get ready for another bottom 4 finish.
Why isn't Daics more involved at the club.
Daics 4 assistant coach mid year, when MM gets the chop.
Eddie should stop worrying about off field success, and do something to change this crap on field performance.

Unfortunately daics4coach everything you say is true.
How i long for a similar side to 1990...not the most skillfull side going around at the time, but most definately the toughest.

The best thing to come out of the loss is the fact that MM will get the full brunt of critisism from the media and supporters.

Last year we had excuses that explained our poor results.

What are the excuses this year?

Play the young guys who have shown to be at least the equal of some of the deadwood that have been consistently not up to the standard required.

I would bet my bottom dollar that Rowe, Maxwell and C2 would have played as well as O'Bree, Williams...and on a long term basis better than R Shaw.

Against Port Power at Optus Oval the other week Maxwell was one of our best players and Rowe showed that he can play albeit not error free at the moment. How They weren't picked is beyond me....

As nearly every post has stated, why wasn't C2 picked considering he would have given us an option as either an extra tall forward of as a ruckman. He at least has some grunt.

Why is Collingwood the only team to offer 4 year apprentiships to then only realize that a player can't actually play? ...Kinnear, O'Bree, Swan, Williams, R Shaw.....J Wild, Patterson

Collingwoods Football Department are begining to have a mates club feel to it. After last years abhoration I would have thought that an experienced assistant would have been handy. A new conditioning coach?
Kicking coach?...hell everybody knows we need one...or do we have one already.... coz I can't seem to notice.

No manning up across the ground, playing via the 1st row of the stands instead of down the middle (we were ranked 16th in using the centre corridor last year).

Tarrant can't kick!!!!!

Davis the only midfielder who looked like taking the game by the scruff of the neck only to be benched. WTF

Lonie playing in our defensive area.WTF...Port 2002 QF Lonie caused havoc as a wingman roaming into the F50

Bulldogs having at least 2 TALL spare players in their D50....where were our 2 loose players? I looke up abd didn't see any in our F50.
They were then obviously around the packs but how does that then explain the fact that we couldn't win a clearnance to save ourselves?

Watching quite a few young players playing their 1st games this week who look light and not ready but applied themselves well and will only be better for the run made me wonder why Hall, B Morrison, H & B Shaw....Phuck our whole 2003 Draftees haven't seen senior action and quite sadly don't even get mentioned as possibilities.
Therin lies the problem.
By that calculation I wouldn't expect to see Egan, Rusling, C3 or Yakka till 2006 at the absolute earliest but most likely 2007...WTF

I have optimism in that we have young players who look to have what it takes to be an integral part of a Collingwood team (Maxwell, Rowe, C2).
I hope the match commitee see this sooner rather than later so they can rectify the problem that has arisen.
If no action is taken, then I'm afraid that we will have to endure many more years of pain, suffering, frustration and ridicule as we did in the late 90's.

We Should Be Better Than That!!!!

When Ryhce is our best player you know we are in serious trouble.

Round 1 and we can only improve is all I can say.

The scoreboard flattered us. They kicked so many behinds besides our players it is not funny.

Good effort by the dogs and if anything I am pleased for them, well deserved they beat us every where. :(

Malthouse and co are running out of excuses.

If we cannot beat the crows next week, we best be going for draft picks. :x

Ive just got back home (dropped into the Kingston in Richmond on the way home for a few jugs and two very nice bottles of shiraz) and thought Id check out what everyone else thought. Absolutely dreadful last quarter. Disinterested. It was a bit embarassing actually as I was with a mixture of supporters (mainly bullie supporters unfortunately) but I just found myself lost for words.

Whats the deal with Taz and Rocca? Are they the genuine article or not? Im finding it hard to defend them time and again. Overall a poor return.
I didnt think we would win and I was right. At 3/4 time I knew the doggies would run all over us, you could just tell they had more legs than us. Very disappointing start to the season. I know, its only one game, but to lose they way they did, well , it was a pretty pathetic effort. They may as well not have come out of the rooms at 3/4 time.

Its just not good enough Pies, and I want to see a better effort next week

It seems that the AFL sites are not working. Is that because nobody wants us to know what MM's after game Press Conference was full of?

Fortunately I'm getting so used to Collingwood mediocrity that I didn't even gob on to those whose sides had already lost, and this in Adelaide. A golden chance...gone!
