In malthouses press conference after the game, he was ropable. He said the players knew how the doggies would play but were undisciplined and did not follow his instructions. Bit of a cop out i think.

Very disappointing effort. It is just round one, however there are some worrying signs there.
1. Any team can can put some leg speed into their side are going to killl us IMO. We have no pace in the Midfield at all IMO.
2. As the game went on, our skills actually got worse where the Dogs were actually getting better!
3. This zone defence is absolutely bullshit! The dogs kept running the ball out of defence far too easily. We need to go man on man!
4. Taz and Pebbles have to work much harder than what they did. Virtually no contested marks and both seemed to fall over far too easily!

Some positives
1. Both Davis and Caracella played a good game with each kicking a couple goals.
2. I thought that the defence actually held up well despite no pressure from the midfield!
3. I think the criticism of Fanning is very harsh. He just simply ran out of petrol tickets and came up against a bloke who has over 10 seasons under his belt compared to one game!

I think the next 3 weeks will tell the story! Coming up against Adelaide, Carlton and Nth Melbourne, all three are sides like us looking who are not the top echelon of the AFL and maybe fighting it out for that 6-8 spots.

Don't know whether the fact that its only Round 1 is a positive or a negative. Terrible terrible finish to the game. Was at the game and it just looked like they just couldn't be stuffed in the last quarter. Really embarassing. I thought they looked ok in the first half, but tired out dreadfully in the last. Our foot skills all day were absolutely shiesenhausen i thought. We've got no hope of sticking to our game plan in the first place, with disposal like what i saw today. We're saying our game plan's bland, but how about we get back to basics and learn how to hit targets, before we even THINK about a game plan. And just on the game plan, if we're not prepared to run and make targets for our players up the ground, then the game plan has no hope of succeeding.. We were doing this early, but tired out as the game wore on.

Positives- Rhyce, Morrison, Davis, the fact that we can't play too much worse.

Can we blame Rocca and Taz? Mick and the coaching staff? The midfielders?

For mine, it was the forwards- they just didn't present often enough and i doubt that any of the key-forwards took a contested mark. But did the forwards play to the instructions of the match committee? If they did, the match committee have a lot to answer for. If they didn't, it's clearly their own issue.

We seemed very top-heavy in defence and the Dogs seemed to exploit this with their mostly small forward line. Seems it would have been better to maybe leave Presti out and include C2. But heindsight is a wonderful thing...

Was an ingredibly disappointing and frustrating second half, BUT it's only round one!!

Keep the heads up.

Now that some of the spleen has been vented perhaps a look forward will make us a little more optomistic about the future, with such players as Josh , Richards, Didak C1< C2 , Maxwell, Rowe, Davidson,King, to come back to the starting line up.Have I missed anyone? This will add a bit of competion for positions , with O'bree and Williams hopefully banished forever, the likes of Shaw, who I thought played an exceptional game today,Lonie and even Taz, will have to stand up and be accountable. And speaking of accountability, the tackling coach should have along hard look at himself. Not to mention the "thinking" :?: of MMs game plan.

yep fair call mudlark. Our midfield has to be spiced up at times. I can see it been johnson, didak, rowe, licuria, woewoedin at times. That is a bit more pacey with licuria and woewoedin offering toughness. Lonie and Tarkyn on the wings. I thought tarkyn was great today, did some good things and in my opinion was our best player. Pretty fast as well.

Do we have a tackling coach - I saw no evidence of it today

Who cares who we have coming back.

We have a shocking gameplan and Malthouse is playing a slow midfield.

You think Fraser and Didak are going turn things around?

The fact that we lead this team most the day and played shocking football, suggests we were miles ahead of them.

We let them stay in touch all day by not playing more attacking football.

Interested in MM comments - but he needs to take fair cop as well. He was the one who selected guys who have been proven ordinary performers instead of guys who are up and comers like C2, Rowe, Maxwell and King.

He also left guys out of the midfield who he promises a go to - Cole, Johnson, Davis etc should have had more time if the others were gettng it wrong

I am a MM fan but he needs to back youth. His current 'cattle' are not going to win a premiership and thats what is got to be about.

Then perhaps MM should take a good hard look at his own performance - if he can't get his message through to the players

No Lethal , I don't think Josh and Dids will turn us around, But I do think Josh, Dids, Maxwell, Rowe, King and co will turn it around with the extra pace they will give us.

totally agree, mick should take the blame for this one, dont blame the players for been lost on the field. Playing Wakelin and presti up forward was not a master move. Led to 7 goals up the other end. Mick u tried, u failed, accept it n make amends for it.

C1 & Maxwell should come in down back and Johnno & Cole into the midfield. For the clangers they may commit, they more than make up for with intensity, pace and ability to beat a man.

Shaw doesn't deserve to be bagged after today's game. There were a few clangers but his delivery at times was spot on and directly responsible for Tex's goal. He's got pace and swerve and when needed can do a good tagging job. I think he shows potential and needs to be persevered with. But knowing MM's logic, he will probably stick him back on the pine next week.

Davis is another that needs to be in the midfield more. Add Rowe and Didak soon, C2 for Willo and it's not yet time to slash the wrists.

If changes aren't made though, it's blood on the floor time.

Can't agree more with yopu DaVe 86, Lonie must play on the wing or at least forward of centre as his defensive skills are ordinary at best.
