Clokey, I assume that is a serious question?

A flood is where a coach sends most of his players into the opposition forward line to reduce the space for the marking forward to run into, thus limiting their opportunities to take marks in their forward 50m zone, thus limiting their goal kicking opportunities.

Its a very negative, defensive tactic and can result in an ugly game. The bulldogs are specialists at it.

So are most under 10 teams.

Think of a mini-league game with bigger players that goes for 4 quarters.

Ugly as a sumo's g-string.
Get back on top.

leave the under 10's alone Cam

Assuming the dogs flood and play loose men in our forward line it will leave Jason Cloke to play his sweeper role...assuming he gets a game which is no certainty.

We must take advantage of the Dogs lack of in and under players....too many light bodies/outside players: Gee Sir I accuse You, Murphy etc...

Making use of our in and under players will be interesting with the new holding the ball interpretation. We won't be able to create stoppages as easily as we used to.

I'm not hugely worried by Darcy because all I can remember in previous encounters he has been useless against us (touch wood). He could have won the game for the dogs Round 2 last year but blew some chances, letting us back in the game (if I remember correctly).

If flooding is the name of the game, we need to win the game across half back through the likes of Clemo, Jonno, Cole, Rowe and Lonie.

Should be an interesting game, let's say. I have an uncomfortable combined feeling of excitement, anxiety, nervousness and dread....gotta love round 1.

Ahhh footy's back. No..... COLLINGWOOD IS BACK.

Bring that Back and White sunshine

If they flood they can't beat us - and the MCG is slightly a larger ground with more room to move into - which is why I am glad we play Carlton there.

I am more confident this season than I have been in a long time. Given that I am a pessimistic freak ... A storm is brewing

Bloody good thinking Dave. If they flood our fifty, we use Lones, Pebbles, & Bucks to just go straight (emphasis on straight!) over the top of it. Of course it means we'll have to be ready for quick rebounds.

Also, given their lack of potent big forwards, It could be a good chance to play Tex at FF. Unless they move Darcy to their FF line, in which case we'll need Tex to cover him, as he might give Fanning a bath if he drags him there. If we can keep Smith & Murphy quiet we should be too good in the midfield, but watch for Giansiracusa & Cooney, as well as Hahn & McMahon. The first in particular is, I think, a very talented kid.

But hey, this is a team that's lost 9 of its last 10, usually by heaps. Of course the danger is underestimating them & using the game to try too many new ideas. They are not a free scoring team, so all we need to do is kick twelve to fifteen goals, and we'll have won.

There are many points to consider, but in the end theres only four we care about.

Lets be seing that gold jacket, oh how I love that particular fashion item!

Again, it worries me slightly that they have more to play for than us, big occasion, New coach, new captain...

Still, some important questions will be answered early on, like whether I'll be able to watch games live on telly this year without scaring the neighbours with waves of blue air!

Was it Easter Monday that the saviour rose again?

35 possies for Bucks then!

So help me Jock!

Presti, Wakes, Clement, Maxwell/C1. Tell me why we would make the mistake of playing Walker on Darcy again?

Cam, Tarrant, Rocca- Tell why we would play Walker forward?

I would be suprised if he got a game at all, no need to go in to big against the doggies. Need to focus on speed and long kicking as well as good crumbers. To tall in a flood will cause you to lose many opportunities

How do they have more to play for? They suck, noone expects much of them. We have plenty to play for, our opening 8 rds are so easy that we need to make the most of it and not let chances like this escape us and shutup those annoying assholes writing us off. A game like here is when you stamp your name on the competition for 2005 by absolutely pumping them.

We have more to play for in the fact, our supporters expect more of us, we are a more succesful club. They will be happy with being competitive and not being last at the end of the year

Cam, Tarrant, Rocca- Tell why we would play Walker forward?
Reason a) He scored has six scoring shots as a forward last time we played them

Reason b) He has trained and played there all summer. It would be cruel to send him down back after developing well as a forward.

Tex is a backman who can be thrown forward if the need arises. That is what he has been groomed for, straight from the horses mouth too.

Walker is a handy addition and also is looking forward to snapping Bandy!

With Fraser and Richards out, Tex might get a gurnsey, and good on him.

He can be thrown forwards when cam cloke gets thrown into the ruck, but I would play either Maxwell or Cloke on Darcy, if Maxwell has bulked up a bit then him (mostly for the experience but he's a got a bit of tallent that kid) Cloke Mach 2004 would be too slow, but they say he's gained a yard or two - I hope so.

The Dogs have a number of weaknesses:

1. We crap all over their midfield, Buckley can play HFF, HBF, Bench, Gold Coast Holiday for this one - Licca on West, big chance for Johnno in the middle. Such a shame Didak isn't 100%. Love to see Woey play a big one, start 2005 with a huge midfield performance.

2. Penny is their only tall backman. Eade says Grant will play CHF - let's see how long that lasts. I think it'll be Darcy CHF, Grant CHB most of the year, but we'll see. They're in strife if Penny can't stop Rocca, but they're in strife anyway, Murphy will probably get Tarrant which is good in terms of pace, but he's not strong enough and there's a question over his stamina - Tarrant could have a big one. The third tall, well if Fraser was fit, Cam Cloke and Josh could kick 20 between them here, but we'll have to settle for a few from Tex instead I think. There's no need to go tall against the bulldogs, but why wouldn't you? exploit their weakness, play Tarrant / Rocca / Tex or Cam Cloke, and throw Presti down once in a while for good measure :). Hope to see a dogs backline of Murphy / Penny / Grant / Darcy - ohh, that'd be such a compliment :)

3. With Morrison looking fit, our HBF is just a little too good for the Dogs. Their forwards love to play off their men, so great, watch Morrison, Lonie and Cole (Johnno when he's down there) take advantage of this. Hopefully it'll be HBF to Rocca / Tarrant / Cam Cloke stuff most of the game. Also, With Cole and Morrison stepping up (or in) Clement can play on Johnson and we lose nothing from (possibly) losing his run, and if Johnosn doesn't play (likely) Clement can have a nice break with Bucks :)

Problems:

Obviously Darcy is a better ruckman than Fanning, but I don't think he'll be that useful cause our midfield has too many options and too many classy players, he'll be hitting it straight to a contest or (hopefully) to one of our guys who've read him better than the dogs do. Also, I think Darcy will play mostly up forwards, or, if the big man fires / men fire - HBF.

I think it'll be a fairly easy one here if the boys can hold it together for four quarters - looking for great starts from Woey, Rocca and Morrison, confidence boosting stuff, would love to see Cam Cloke stand up at CHF when Rocca goes in the ruck (if that happens), and I think this is a huge game for Johnno and Didak (if he's fit enough) to see what they can do in the midfield - if they're going to be future midfielders then they need to show it against the dogs. Have a gut feeling that it'll fairly even, until the third quarter...

Prediction: Pies by 40 + (sorry Doggies)
