True Cam. He had a shocker, and the game has passed him by. He is best suited as a forward pocket, in the Rupert Betheras role. There are no other spots that I can see for Campbell, sadly.

Culprit wrote:Walker does nothing and gets two goals. Unreal.

Shaw he is a girl, he better get use to playing in the VFL. To all those who pump him up, just watch the replay. Bloody hopeless.

Chad, worthy Debut.

Ruck rules are a joke. Anyone else care to comment.

What do you mean Tex does nothing? I thought his last quarter was terrific. Shaw was ok, only one clanger in my mind. His left footer to Rowey which went out on the full. That match saving mark on Brown was terrific. Chad was great, has a cool footy brain, and great hands, Smart player, and will release Jonno and Coley up the ground. May be a little too slow for the midfield, though, although his hands make up for it.

Ruck rules. Fraser was murdered by the umpires. So many frees went to Knobel. Very stupid. Still scratching my head on that one.

Presti#1Fan wrote:Presti still owns Richo.
How true. Richo will never escape. Presti was fantastic. Loved watching him just keep going, his spoiling is first rate. Lets hope he gets the All-Australian spot he was robbed of in 2002. And don't doubt him, as he does his job EVERY WEEK!

Ahhh! :x The side that crushed us last year. Their pace will be a worry, but we are a chance.

eddiesmith wrote:If anyone thinks that is the best side we can put out there then they have rocks in their heads.
Of course it wasn't our best side. It was missing Bucks, Dids, Cara, Tarks and Clokey.
eddiesmith wrote:We carried all our duds in a winning side, thats a positive. Cam roughed up Tambo, just what I wanted to see :D Richo spat the dummy.
Who are the duds? BTW - as you said, great to see Cam get into the action, but I think he got wound up too easily by Mark Graham,w ho worked it well.

Jonno's pace was good, Rowey showed class and if he can consistantly play well, look out. Can't wait to see Cara play, and C2 showed us some small aspects of his play, but we all know he can get better.

What a win! I love this feeling. Wizard Cup or Grand Final, I don't care - winning is the best.

We'll beat the Eagles.

If we were to win next week we are going to have to improve a lot, we played like crap for the first 3 Quarters, and we were very lucky to win the game. Our kicking for goal all game was woeful again, looks like we were the ones that hired Brian Taylor as goal kicking coach.

Great to see Williams play a good game IMO he was our best player, I really hope this is the year that he finally fires, I have been hoping since we got him that he would start playing well. Maybe last night was the first of many good games.

I am surprised that we were able to claw our way back, it started to look like Richmond were going to run away with the game at the start of the fianl quarter. But if we are to win next week, or even many games this year we have to play 4 quarters of football which we haven't done for awhile.

Also number 21 for Richmond should be reported for a flying elbow to one of our players... can't remember which Pies player it was
The Richmond player was Tuck (Shane?)
To me it was a good hit. Nothing more. Produced them a goal

It was great to see the boys come back from 25 points down with 10 minutes to play. Some teams could of or would of given up at that stage.

Now we play the WCE in Darwin I think

Fantastic first up win. I can't understand how anyone can be so negative when its february FFS! I was pretty satisfied right up to 3 quarter time to be honest. The wizzer games are still just glorified practice games to me, im certainly under no illusion that its anything more than that.
As has been mentioned already, Willo, Taz, Licca i thought were terrific, but Presti!! Aaah Presti!! How much do i love Presti!!!

Spot on once again Johnno. The amount of times im uttering the words; oh well done presti, i sounded similar to some of my old and scratched "1984-The Hot Ones" records! He's brilliant! And yes, he does this every week, too true.
And cheesy!! My god Cheesy!!! Terrific game from him tonight, back to his old '01 form where he was finding the ball everywhere and using it effectively. I liked Chad's game as well. Doesn't waste a possie which is always heartening.
Overall signs were good considering its only February and the best sign was that in the end, we just knew how to win. Good sides find a way to win and we did that last night.

This was a very good win against a near full strength Tiger team.
As it was the first match you are looking at certain areas and not necessarily overall match performance.
Did the Pies get the ball a lot - Yes.
Did they use ball better than last year by foot - Yes. Licuria and Shaws disposal was a big step forward from last year.
Did they use the ball beter when under pressure - Yes, Morrison an perfect example of not panicking, Obree sidestepping, BJ dodging 4 Tigers.
Did we shepherd and do the team things - Yes, Morrison is the best example - hand ball off and look to block an opposition body.
Did some new players step up - Yes - Rowe and King are real finds.
Did some others players seem to improve - Yes, Josh, Stretch, Tex, Williams, Lonie, Cole.
Are there areas to work harder on - Yes. Taz kicking for goal is not up to AFL standard - but he will be mainly playing at HF. C2 and Tex can switch through FF as both are big bodied and accurate kicks for goal. Leon will probably be lucky to get a game next week as he won't do the team discipline things and I think MM will sit him out to make him see how everyone else IS busting their chops to do the team things.
Cole was sensational now that the HB spots are taken over and he showed at center bounces he can be and attacker and a very solid tackler and in attack he is a gem.
Pebbles was the highlight - the kick from 5 metres inside the center square, Campbell falling backwards to get out the Magpies23 Express that would have killed him, his rugby league tackle, turn and throw in the first quarter. Pebbles is primed for a big year and probably the fittest and quickest I have ever seen him.
In the season proper we have to cut down by 2 and also find spots for Bucks, Dids, Lockyer, Cara, C1.
Pies are in good shape.

What a game, such an atmosphere. Tigers put up a good fight. It was the 9 pointers that kept them in the game ultimately and our poor kicking. We probably shouldve put them away in the 2nd quarter but just couldnt convert. Great to see Richo spit the dummy in the last. He had controlled himself well up until that last moment.
I thought richie cole and rowe showed enough to suggest they put in over pre season and lonie also played well. However it will be interesting to see how these players perform, and where they play when buckley and didak, lockeyer and caracella come back into the team. Clement also did a good shut down job on brown. Clement did some really improtant things at important stages. Also Chad Morrison importantly put his head over the ball in the last quarter and stopped richmond runnign away. He sustained a knock in the head for it as well.

Interesting to hear micks comments after the game. He was appauled at the umpiriing interpretation of the ruck contests which cost us dearly. THe game was deciding on 50 metre penalties. I think i counted about 5 goals coming off 50's, which cost 9 points. Both teams were affected by this.

Walker has really improved his kicking. Cam Cloke looked like he was set for a big game but mick took him off and hardly brought him back on. Our forward line at times looked disfunctional and at other really dangerouis. At some times however, all our players were sitting on the wing,(i counted 5 in the one spot) whilst 5 tigers sat behind the ball inthe forward line. I think we have to work harder at running forward when we have possession. We cant afford to be outnumbered 6 to 2 in our forward line.

Fraser rucked well as did richards, the richards tap to burns was awesome. However the competition was knobel, an absolute dud so im not reading too far into it. Loved the way lonie played. I thought he even couldve run harder forward at times instead of sitting behind the play. When we were 25 points down, he shoudlve moved forward and tried to get onto a ball 50 out on the run. Little things can be worked on but ultimately it was a pre season game in hot conditions against mediocre opposition. When we had to lift our game we did and thats whats important. We showed at full flight we are hard to stop.

The defence was ok most of the match. I thought presti played very well, wakelin made a few mistakes but played ok. I still wouldve like to have seen walker played in defence, or even played maxwell in the side and given him a run in defence just to get a look at where they are. But a great match, im out of voice. I was sitting right on the boundry line at the interchange bench and i gave it to cambell all night. Footy is back

I think we should all cast our minds back to February 2004 and consider that we are much better placed this year than we were last year. That might help get some perspective.

Morrison was the highlight for me, especially in the first half - very gutsy efforts and worthy of the #7.

Rhyse Shaw Clangers - someone said 1 - missed an easy running goal (not the only one there), and made a pissweak effort running towards the wing with tigers chasing, silly 5m kick off the ground which was costly. But redeemed in the last 2 minutes. Still not up to our top 22 but would like to see him improve but I don't think he will never toughen up - hasn't got it in him.

Umpire #34 what a wanker - both sides were baffled by his crap. Hope not to see him again.

If anyone puts a DVD together of "Thanks for the memories Richo" of all of his countless and classic dummy spits then I will happily pay $50.

[quote="stoliboy"]Some further observations:

Wayne Campbell should be reported for deliberitly dropping his knees onto Woey in an altercation. Campbell's knees came into contact with Woey's chest and head whilst Woey had his back to the ground.

Also number 21 for Richmond should be reported for a flying elbow to one of our players... can't remember which Pies player it was.

I was right in front of the campbell altercation and cambell definately dropped a knee into woewoedins lip. It was uncalled for and the only reason he did it was to get his name in a post match report because its all campbell contributed. Woey did well not to retaliate too bad but definately left him fired up for the rest of the game. I cant believe the ump didnt giv us 50 for it because it was after the free kick. Considering the 50's that had been paid earlier, this one was a lot worse.

Couple of comments:

Not getting carried away with the form of the serial duds yet (Cheesy, Willo, Rhyce, Lokan) although I must concede that Cheesy was very good (he is after all, the only serial dud with past form to call on). One practice match does not a season make. With Blake, Dids, Bux and Locks to come we know at least a couple of them will have to go back down in the coming weeks. I just pray Malty doesn't persist with picking them every other week for yet another year.

Still, happy with the win and happy with the early form of some (Cole, Rowe, Lones, Clem, Burns, Presti, Chad, Ant, Fraze and a few others).
Encouraging signs from youngins Tex, Rowe.

Said weeks ago that Fraser will struggle with the new ruck rule where you are not allowed to size up your opponent running in to tap the ball and must have eyes for the ball only. Josh is a serial offender, always looks at his man and protects himself with his knees. Interesting to note that with the new rule forcing him to have eyes for the ball only he won more tap outs last night than he has for a long, long time. However, old habits die hard and he was pinged mercilessley, umps ovbiously knew already that he has a habit of doing this.

He was great around the ground last nght.

Taz either learns to kick straight or moves up to a flank. His kicking hurt us badly last night, almost cost us the game and it will hurt us badly all year if it doesn't improve. Based on the last couple of years and this showing, it looks like it hasn't and wont. 10+ marks a game and 2 goals 4 or 5 and a few OOF isnt going to bring you glory and it demoralizes the team, you let your team down if you don't kick straight after all the hard work up the ground. Its the one blight on Taz' game, the one thing that stops him being regarded and out and out champion of the competition.

Leon in the guts, did some nice things but still looks like it will be cameos only.

Tex, limited opportunities but when nothing was happening Tex stood up, took his chances and got us back into the game.

Chad has slowed noticably but his experience and poise and skills will be an asset.

CC, get your head down, do the hard yards, apply yourself and learn and stop playing million dollar baby football.

To Mortis and all the other KNOCKERS of the Mighty Pies. This time last year we had a shocker of a start and contunued that way for the rest of the season.
I watched the game on Fox Footy this morning and listened to it Streamed on 3AW last night and even Rex Hunt recon that the PIES are a rejuvenated team and they deserved their win.
From what I saw on Fox footy the PIES played like PIGS....They played with.....P..................PRIDE,I...................INTEGRITY.G..........GUTS
and they showed that they will be a force to be reconned with.
I was proud to see them fight last night and they all look fit,BUT admittedly they slumped in the 2nd stanza,BUT didnt they come back to make up proud of them. The game on FF this morning was great....bring on WCE in darwin next next wek end.
