As much as it galls me to say it, James Hird is an outstanding and freakishly talented player. Unfortunately, over the last 5 years or so the Pies have become Hirdy's bitch. Not sure if it's due to playing the wrong type of player on him, or whether our tags have been a little in awe of him, and been too respecting of this 1 players reputation and his history against us - we need to put some mongrel tagger on him who would be happy to have a no-touch game, so long as James gets under 10 possies, ALL of them contested, ALL of them earnt hard and under duress, and not scared to rough him up too. Someone who will be in the bog with him at halftime, that's how close you have to play the man!! I am a fan of Woey, but he wasn't the man to have one-out in the goalsqaure with Hird (IMO).
The game reminded me a little of Bombers v Swans earlier this year - the 2 times we got a run on and had a slight sniff, some pretty galling umpiring snuffed out the chance. Not saying this was the ONLY reason we lost, but when they get 4 goal presented on a plate, 1 bodgy goal from an obviously touched ball, and on top of this we don't get the same gifts (ie. Tazza manhandled same as Lloyd, gets nothing - Didak scragged on numerous occasions, several Bomber throws in the last line of defence conveniently unnoticed). These little things can add up. Of course, what chances we DID have were eventually squandered by poor disposal. Leon Davis had the chance to really put the blow torch on them, but someone better tell him the side-footed screw kicks aren't the way to finish in the wet. The finger was waggling almost before the ball went out on the full.
As for Lloyd, can't believe he is still allowed to get away with constantly running his player under the ball, stopping dead, and then throwing himself forward with both arms outstretched, and getting the free every single time, regardless of type or force of body contact applied. How man goals has he kicked with this kind of cheating ploy? God it gets annoying.
As for poor umpiring, I would still have to nomintate the Bombers v Swans match from this year as the closest I've seen to out and out cheating from the umpires - the final qtr decisions in that game were out of this world, never to be beaten I would say. If ever the term "we wus robbed" was coined for a game, that was it. If it wasn't cheating, then it was just plain incompetance, not sure which is worse? Lloyds rugby pass in the goalsquare, and the free paid against Craig Bolton (+ 50 metres) were dead set cheats.
Cole was great, I like to see him back himself. Fraser ran himself into the ground, Tazza also, didn't get a lot of support up front.

My view of last nights match...
Scum had 20 men on the field, which included 2 umpires.
How can a team do any good when there are 9 frees against them,
The umpiring was so eratic that NO team would have beaten the Scum last night. The umpiring was SO inconsistent.
Each time the Scum play a team that is threatening, along comes TWO umpires that 'favour' Hird,LLoyd, and most of the rest of the team and STUFF the other team playing.
The Pies lost the game in the first 10 minutes, thanks to some dubious umpring decisions.
It appears to me that the SCUM are the 'white haired' boys of the AFL and that theycant do anything wrong as far as the AFL is concerned.
Inconsistent umpiring makes for a crook game.
Thats my 50c worth catch you nect week....possibly.

You're joking right Jarryd? Comparing Wests disposal skills with Buckleys is like Chalk and cheese. West hardly hurts his opposition with his posessions whereas Buckley rarely doesnt. As good as a player Riccuito is, i dont think he is in the same league as Buckley, Voss and Hird.Jarryd wrote:True, but in my and a lot of other peoples opinion Buckley turns it over a lot more than a Riccuto or a West or a Voss
Now if you're basing your opinion on yesterdays game, then yes Bucks did turn the ball over alot. It was actually one of his worst performances in terms of hitting targets for a long time. Seemed to have an off night. But mind you, James Hird had a few shockers yesterday as well.

Bucks is the person who kids are modeled on for their kicking. Voss and West are good handballers but not the best kicks. Although Voss kicks iot a mile. Roo is a good kick but not in Bucks' class.Jarryd wrote:True, but in my and a lot of other peoples opinion Buckley turns it over a lot more than a Riccuto or a West or a Voss

Buckley is the best kick of a football I have ever seen
I thought Tarrant was brillant last night, Flecter and McPhee couldn't go with him, considering he has missed so much footy this season his fitness is unbelievable.
I swear Brett Allan hates collingwood, i've been saying it for a while now and everytime I see the prick I get more and more convinced. The umpiring in the first half last night was the worst I have ever seen at any level of the game anywhere, Seriously you could drag in some random ump from the bush and they would do a better job than that it was just a disgrace and it cost us the game.
