I'm not too disapointed with the result.. Essendon simply had to win this one if they were going to have nay chance of making the finals, so of course they were going to come out firing.. we weren't really playing for anything so our intensity was always going to be less than theirs. We were extremely undermanned, and we were playnig against a very hungry team. I thought our kids stood up and i was proud of their efforts. Ritchie Cole just proved what i already knew - He's gunna be an absolute star! Kingy showed alot of promise again, Maxy was good till he went off injured, and Leon keeps putting in conistant efforts. I really can't wait until next year... we will have all of our big guns fit and firing, all our youngsters will be back from injury, and the new training facilities at the Lexus Centre will have to be of some advantage. I have a feeling that we're gunna come out next year with all guns firing... Not to dissimilar to the Saints of this year. All i ask from the boys for the rest of this year is that they play with the pride and courage they have been playing with for the past 3 weeks.

I agree that the umpiring was quite bad, however what was of more concern to me was our style of play last night.
One stat that was sticking out for me, was how Essendon moved the ball compared to us. In the Herald Sun, it said that the Scum entered the 50 through the corridor 27 times compared to our 11. That is an indication of how we played last night and for most of the season. Chiping left, right, back and under and every way except for down the middle. This was also caused by no movement whatsover from our forwards most of the time.
Not to mention the 17 clanger kicks compared to the scums 10 and the 24 effective long kicks (and I do emphasise the word long) compared to our 13 in the first term.
Quite simply, the scum played the smarter footy. They used the ball better and were harder at the ball, which is shown by the 13 extra tackles.
I am also sick of people saying that we need it to rain for us to win a game of footy. Hopefully, last night will put that to bed. If that is the case, we are no better than St Kilda needing to play at the Dome to win or the Scum wanting perfect conditions to win!

James Hird has got to be the single reason why Collingwood has a shocking record against Essendon recently, he is amazing. He is human but I think he has that Spiderman thing going on where everything is in slow motion, like Mark Waugh of old. Everytime we mounted a challenge he was the one who repelled us.
I didn't see the first quater but I didn't think we were out of it at half time. Richie Cole looked creative of half back, Tarrant presented and Burns did ok. I thought Bucks was a bit quiet for his usual standards, and Didak needs to concentrate on the footy not the man. O'bree got a lot of it but didn't seem to do much with it and Lokan still gets game time at the expense of more deserving others.
As for Mcphee he better get suspended for striking, even though it seemed to have no real effect on Tarrant.
All in all a dissapointing loss, we just didn't have the same intensity as last week and a lot of tackles didn't stick. Hopefully we can come back and give the Power Puffs a run for their money next week.

I don't quite know the amount of times last night I was shouting at the top of my lungs to kick it long.....and it didn't happen. Probably the most frustrating part of the night was when Josh was all by himself with nobody within 30 odd metres of him - and he was screaming at Cole to kick it to him. Well what happened....Cole kicked it straight onto the chest of Fletcher.
However, I'm looking forward to next year now - there has been terrific improvement with some of our young guys this year. Noteably - King, Walker, Richards, Cole & T Cloke. It will be good to get the whole team on the field next year for Round 1......watch out Lions!!!!!

James Hird is human.
I don't know why taggers think they can leave him alone... Woey ran off him continually all night, and every time the ball rebounded, Tirdy got the pill in space.
If you're on Hird, stay on Hird.

There are so many site rules and regulations I no longer know what I can and can't put in this signature.

It does not really matter, we were not going to make finals besides any crap floating in the media. Bombers came out with a plan to win the first qtr and they did. Knowing we are low on senior players, they simply hit us hard early and our players were caught flat footed. We came back, but it's the story of 2004 as far as the pies go. To little to late.
No September action so relax and enjoy the next two games.
Zeke your spot on with Hird.

In the space of 7 days, it's the full range of emotions as usual for Pies fans. From jubilation and pride last week to frustration last night.
One thing about these guys is that apart from some individual bad quarters this year, no team has given us a real spanking in 20 rounds so far. Not a bad effort considering the injuries, suspensions & GF hangovers they've had to endure this year. It shows that there's a great base spirit amongst the list.
Thought that Fraser, Cole & O'Bree were about the best last night. Richie is great to watch and you just have to put up with the few clangers and bad decisions here and there but he is a gun in waiting. O'Bree has also really stood up the last few weeks. Once Richards returns, Josh will be a lot more productive as a roving tall.
Taz, Dutchy, Licca, Woey, Burnsy & Bux were all solid as well.

Hearing the 'Black & White Army' roar is the greatest sound in the world.
