Williamstown went in to todays game as long shots, and the late withdrawal of Luke Mullins (foot) and Bo Nixon (illness) made it that much harder going in. In fact, Williamstown are struggling so much with injury the reserves coach (and Collingwood runner) Anthony Eames had a run to make up the numbers in the reserves.

The Seagulls started well and showed they would be competitive, but with some obvious mismatches, the changes were slow in coming, but were being resolved. Kicking against a slight breeze, Williamstown went in to the first change 19 points in arrears.

The second quarter saw the match-ups now at Williamstowns advantage, which saw a dominant performance and a possible upset on the cards. Shack was getting plenty of the ball and was a driving force in the centre, BK was leading strongly and was holding his marks, whilst Swanny was proving to be the main scoring threat. Werribee didn't have an answer and at the main break, Williamstown held a 15 point advantage.

Cranage, Lloyd, Shackleton and Rowe were the best for the half.

Werribee slowly pegged back the deficit in the third quarter, and their four goals saw them lead at the last change by 2 points. With Williamstown coming home with the breeze, the scent of victory was in the air.

The Tigers proved to be more precise when it mattered, and although Williamstown hit the front on several occasions, Werribee seemed to want the victory more than the hosts.

The final margin - 8 points. A good result for Williamstown in the scheme of things, but Werribee are in trouble if they think they will register a W in the finals series if todays performance is anything to go by.

Final scores:
Will: 2.3.15 ~ 8.7.55 ~ 9.10.64 ~ 12.12.84
Werr: 5.4.34 ~ 6.4.40 ~ 10.6.66 ~ 14.8.92

Goals: Swan 3, Sheehan 2, Kinnear 2, Williams, Jarrad, Shackleton, Lawry, Dukes.
(My) Best: Cranage, Shackleton, Lloyd, Rowe, Jarrad, Lawry.
(Official) Best: Swan, Theodore, Lloyd, Shackleton, Rowe, Cranage.

Reserves
Scores:
Will: 2.4.16 ~ 4.7.31 ~ 6.7.43 ~ 8.12.60
Werr: 5.2.32 ~ 8.2.50 ~ 9.7.61 ~ 13.8.86

Goals: Neeson 2, Uhi 2, Watts, Proctor, Morrison, Laverde.
(My) Best: Proctor, Benson, Ralph, Neeson.
(Official) Best: Lee, Neeson, Laverde, Handreck, Benson, Watts.

How was Zane Leonard's game? appreciate your comments Dale or Tess or anyone else that was there.

Also, sounds like Rowey wasn't too phased with going back down and played alright.

Yeah.. i'm interested in how Leonard went also.. Do you think he would be in contention to crack a senior game this week to replace Maxy?

Didn't see a lot of Zane, however, he did a couple of high quality things.

One in particular was early in the third quarter, he got possession in the centre square and was surrounded by Werribee players. He heard a call from a team mate, and without looking, fired out a handpass directly into the path of his team mate, who was at full pace.

This happened so quick that the Werribee players didn't even realise he had disposed of the ball.

Rowey was given a lot of space, and used the ball well (at least better than most). Since making his debut in the reserves, he has, without a doubt, been the biggest improver for all teams. I'd expect to be seeing a lot more of Julian Rowe in years to come.

He didn't give himself a run until the last quarter, and by then, we were a couple down with injuries (Aaron Ramsay left the ground with his arm in a sling and a couple more were seen limping quite noticeably).

Will be an interesting couple of weeks trying to find 22 fit players as the finals campaign draws near. Might have to accept a fifth place finish, then face either Werribee or North Ballarat in the Elimination Final in two weeks.
