In the same article, MM said that Taz would be selected but that they would take 23 players, just in case he couldn't get up. With Jason Cloke out, you'd think Crow would be playing in defence as Cloke's replacement, but that still means someone else needs to be named in the squad.
I also liked MM's comment which indicates how he's approaching the last four games:
Hmmmm. This week, Malthouse is hoping to secure a morale-boosting victory over Fremantle.
He is hopeful Chris Tarrant will play, with the full-forward making the trip west, but in case Tarrant's hamstring woes flare again, the Magpies will take 23 players across. Jason Cloke has been ruled out because of a badly corked thigh.
The Magpies will play their 10th new face of the season on Friday night when Justin Crow, the son of former Essendon and St Kilda ruckman/forward Max, makes his debut after being elevated from the rookie list.
The Magpies face three potential finals sides in the last month of the season, a fact that pleases Malthouse. "We'd like to give a real solid show of ourselves to show we're not that far off it," he said. "If you're going to have a last month of football, you may as well have it highly competitive and mean something."
My mind's starting to think we may be in with a chance. Freo have been so-so at home and their wins in Melbourne have been against lowly sides, not top Eight calibre (and yes, I realise that includes us, but it came during our sh*t start to the year). We'll see.
