Couldn't agree more FunkyPieMaster. It was a terrific & gutsy effort from an undermanned & very young Collingwood team. Yet MMF cant see ANY positives! It is dumb posters like him/her who cause trouble on Boards with their anti Collingwood trolls and utter garbage, and having the audacity to have a go at a top bloke like Joffa who is an absolute inspiration to ordinary fans like me. Who is next on MMF's list I wonder? Bucks? Burnsy? Eddie? me?
It is silly dills like MMF who should leave or be kicked out from Nick's, not Joffa. He/she is far better suited to following scum like Essendon or Carlton and can happily go and cause trouble on their boards. But leave us alone.

I don't agree with half of what MMF says, but he has a right to air his view. How can people see positives when we are struggling to beat Richmond? We all have opinions whether you like them or not. MMF loves R Shaw, I am far from a being a fan. This does not mean I want MMF to be removed because I disagree with him. We are living in a democracy and for those who dislike other peoples views I suggest you open your own board and be the only poster. Then you cannot go wrong.
No one should be removed for stating his or her opinion.
I am sick and tired of self-righteous children in most cases saying you should only be positive.
We are out of the eight; we played in the GF last year. Injuries or no injuries we have had a poor season by our standards and it's simply not good enough. That is not being negative it is being a realist.

Considering that my name has already been used in this topic I probably need to get involved in this debate and set the record straight.
The current moderation team are, in fact, much stricter than Nick or I ever were. The only people I was ever consistently strict with were opposition supporters, most of whom never got as far as their second post before they were out of here. The exception was Dipper who was allowed to stay because he was a pom and had a good excuse and he'd been around for so long that he was almost one of the originals. In fact, Joffa, your previous complaints about the moderators have been because you felt that they are too strict and won't allow you to show your passion in your language (by swearing). You have accused them of being power mongers. Now you accuse them of being soft. Which is it to be?
What possible motive could they have for going soft on MMF? As long as he presents as a Collingwood supporter and stays within the rules they have no right to interfere with what he says - they are not thought police. As soon as you start to exclude people because you disagree with what they say, the way they say it or because what they say makes you uncomfortable, angry, irritated etc., you destroy any credibility this forum might have.
The main difference in the moderation now is consistency - the current moderators, as a team, are much more consistent than I was and much fairer. In my day there was just me, and before me there was just Nick. No recourse, no appeal... nothing. If I was in a bad mood there was nobody else around to balance my moderation... and it did swing with the breeze sometimes. That doesn't happen now
Another furphy that is often bandied about is that it's no use complaining because 'they' just stick together anyway. That accusation is totally without foundation and is usually made by someone like MMF who has to find a reason for being universally unpopular - conspiracy is always convenient in those circumstances. The moderators have no reason to stick together. They are not mates who know each other away from this board, they are not a mutual admiration society, they are just a group of volunteers putting time and energy into keeping this resource available to this community. No one, and no group, is ever going to be able to do that without treading on toes and upsetting somebody, but this group of moderators comes pretty close to it. The alternative is no moderation and a community which very quickly self destructs and disappears - you choose.
I don't agree with MMF most of the time, but we've had many like him in the past and never booted, and only rarely edited, any of them. I'm often amazed that the MMFs of this world can get a reaction so easily. They are just people who believe that they are 'controversial' and 'radical thinkers' because their posts are deliberately inflammatory. That might be correct if the posts were of a quality that required more than a nano-second of thought before being dismissed as puerile rubbish, but unfortunately they very rarely are. If I, myself, seem to be judgemental about MMF and what he has to say, it's just because I am. It's not the endless crap that he posts that I don't like - I can and do ignore that - it was his attempted use of this board to spread defamatory garbage. Not only did the defamation put the board and those responsible for it at risk, it was the President of our Club that he was defaming. So I do understand your intolerance of MMF Joffa, but I don't share your desire to censor what he says, except when it puts others at risk. After all why censor something that is so blatantly stupid that it censors itself.
Joffa, you are an asset to the Club. You are a natural leader with an inbuilt unquenchable passion for Collingwood and I am sorry that you feel that you have had to take your contribution away from this board, considering our history together. I believe that your reasons for doing that are misguided and wrong, but you have every right to do it and we have to accept that. We also have to accept your negative criticism of this community in the same way that we have to accept negative criticism of the Club - just because an opinion is posted on this board doesn't make it the opinion of the board. As far as I'm concerned you're one of our family and, as with any family, we might disagree and walk away from time to time, but the door is always open.
One last point Joffa. Please remember that you could do much more damage to this community without even being aware that you are doing it than MMF could if he lived for a thousand years.

I see a certain Conflict of Interest (not the above post) on the page before this one. If people can see what I mean, that's all I will say.

I'm relatively new considering some of the posters who use this bulletin board to voice their opinions and given that favt, I'd like to think I pay due respect to those who've earnt it and furthermore to those who are attempting to earn it.
Reading post's like Cam and Cannibal are always a pearler and I love the passion that Joffa emotes, and MMF is great for his antagonistic and radical approach. But People, lets not make this a shit slinging match, its not needed, nor is it warranted.
1. Collingwood hasn't had the year many would have thought....deal with it, not like we haven't been here before.
2. We are blooding young kids, its about bloody time someone did it. Would rather have the much debated Rhyce Shaw on match days then James Wasley and Jason Wild.
3. We all bleed black and white, and we all have opinions.....in any other walk of life everyone is entitled to an opinion, but in this forum, it seems to differ from the norm is ridiculed.......MMF, he's clearly a nutter but he's heart is in the right place, its in Collingwood.
4. With regard to the weekend, we went in undermanned in key positions. Ottens was beating Josh, Richo had Cloke covered and Tex beaten on the lead. Had Ottens played the full game and Richo kicked straight, we could have got rolled by ten goals. It was a spirited game, we were lucky to get across the line, some young fellas played well, some 'maligned' guys like Woey provided the cream. Be grateful we took the four points and enjoy the winning feeling because the Collingwood supporter that can come to me and say they'd rather us lose for a better draft pick isn't a supporter, merely a deluded soul looking for an excuse to justify the season that most supporters after 2003 thought we'd have.
5. Reality is where we are, deal with it.

Why cant ppl just ignore posts or posters who, in their opinion post BS?
90% of the stuff MMF posts is pretty stupid. Just ignore it if you dont agree or like what he has to say. He is not forcing anyone to read it, or agree with what anyone has to say. At times he does get personal and i can understand if anyone would get upset by that. But to suggest he be banned isnt right.
His comments about the weekends game not having any positives. I dont agree with at all. I dont see why he cant see that although we only just got over the line against a team with Bitchmonds quality, we were missing so many players that are integral members to our side. Furthermore, our younger brigade stood up to be counted on the day. While the win was scrappy, surely there are positives.
Its obvious that i dont agree with his opinion, and in fact i believe his opinion is ridiculous. But it would be stupid of me to go on complaining about how stupid and wrong his opinions are and that he should be banned. I just choose to ignore his posts, and i reply to posters such as Cam, Cannibal, Lazza, Proud Pies, Joel, J26, Tess, etc etc.
There are 50 great posters to every MMF. Why that fact would cause anyone to leave this great community is beyond me. I hope you dont leave Joffa, but in all honestly it will be you that misses out, not us.
Whatever you do, that doesnt change the fact that you're a great Collingwood supporter. Hope to read some posts from you soon

What Joffa says is right up to a point. Disagreement is OK and should not be censored but personal villification is not OK and posts including it should be deleted or edited.
The question becomes what is villification. Calling Joffa an egomaniac clearly crossed that line (as did some of the posts citing their opinions of MMF) while MMF's original post implying that Joffa was moralizing etc. was near the line. There certainly was an implied insult the question is did it cross a line? The moderators would have to publish clear guidelines.
This may be difficult. Perhaps an alternatives is to use euphamisms when we really want to insult someone. This could allow the venting off of passion while at the same allowing the victim to laugh the insult off.
For example "you are a stupid loudmouthed idiot" could be written as you are a real akermanis or you are a real choko (villification of opposition palyers/staff and the media is OK). We could even have a dictionary that people could append to and lookup for specific insults.

Spot on. Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Thats all it is - opinion. Lets just listen to each other and debate certain points but enjoy the fact that we still have a place like this. We all saw what happened to FTO and Nicks last summer. We're still lucky to have it.Nath wrote:Reading post's like Cam and Cannibal are always a pearler and I love the passion that Joffa emotes, and MMF is great for his antagonistic and radical approach. Being defamatory is crossing the line, but apart from that, surely we can all tolerate people who have different ideas to our own?!?!?!?!?
If you dont agree with someone, you debate them and expose that their position is wrong. You dont throw your arms up and walk away.
