I thought it was a pretty poor quality game and we made some shocking errors at times.

The Bulldogs seemed to run away with the ball far too easily - lucky they couldn't kick straight.

Thank god we didn't give up in the last quarter as has happened so many times this year.

I loved the goal fest at the end. I know we only beat the Bulldogs but for a while there I was worried.

Our usual hard workers played well tonight - Bucks, Burns, Fraser and Johnno.

It was good to see David King kick a goal - pity Tristan Walker missed a few but he wasn't the only one.

More injuries - could it possibly get any worse?

Oh well, at least we won. Make the most of it as it may be our last.

Injurues a real worry.

Don't believe what you read or what the club says:

Presti - Shoulder
Rowe - Groin
Burns - Groin
Leon - Thigh
King - Thigh
Maxwell - Knee

Funny how Lions supporters never say "If Collingwood had kicked straight, they would have beaten us." And neither do we, we always say "We missed too many easy shots, they came back to hurt us, we let them off the hook..."

Stuff the Bulldogs.

We were decimated yet we smashed them. They are more of a rabble than Hawthorn.

Jade Rawlings instead of Nick Stevens? Hmm good decision that one. Uber-dud.

Although I suppose it would have been pointless having Stevens AND West. Both run around the back of packs/marks for handballs and deliver them in such a way that the player they give it to has to stop and give it back. The old give and go routine. West may get the stats but he doesn't hurt you much with the bulk of them.
Get back on top.

In the pre game thread I said collingwood would win by about 50 points so only 1 point off! Was impressed by Rowe's early work and I thought big Tex did a great job considering he's been playing in the backline all year for willi. Lately I haven't really been Mckee's biggest fan but I thought he put a solid effort in today.

We could not even manage to lose when it counts. What a waste of a year.

Arg we won, big deal. It was the Bulldogs.

I truly cannot believe that there are Collingwood ""SUPPORTERS"" who carp that this was the worst game they ever saw etc etc.
We have got Cloke ,Didak ,Taz ,Rocca, Wakes, Richards Presti off in the first, Jason hurt Rowe off early?????
These are in our STARTING 18 every day and we came out and pumped the pitiful dogs, and I believe that would be the best they have to offer.
Yes, O'Bree is a passenger who can't kick but the rest are heros who made last nights victory a historical one under real adversity and I know I'm happy. :D :D

The way some of you people are going on, you make it sound like it is a personal insult to you that Collingwood won the game.

We all knew beforehand that it would be tough with so many blokes out injured and, to make it worse, Presti goes off during the first quarter with a season-ending dislocated shoulder. However, the danger men for Footscray were Darcy, West and Johnson and it's clear that MM shares Cam's view on West, as he plonked Shawy on Johnson who, although he got the ball, was nowhere near as damaging as he could have been. Plus Shawy picked up a fair bit of it himself (18 poss to 13 according to the official stats). It looked to me like Licca was running with West, which might tell us how the established order of our taggers has been turned upside down. Or maybe MM was happy enough just to let West get the ball, knowing he wouldn't do much damage with it. Still, if Licca was running with West, it was a similar story to the Johnson/Shaw battle - West 33 poss, Licca 25. Fortunately, Rohde couldn't play Darcy in the ruck and at FF simultaneously!

In pre-match, I said we couldn't afford to leave Bucks on the forward line; he had to play in the middle, and play in the middle he did. BOG in my opinion, with Fraser and Johnno not far behind. I think the real difference between the two sides was that we had ten goal scorers to their 6, with Robbins their only guy with more than one. Jade Rawlings was brought into their side to replace Nathan Brown but that just goes to show how dicey it is to try to trade for established players. Sometimes it comes off, but more often than not, it doesn't. Their forward line was a shambles but a lot of the trouble they had up forward was due to the pressure our defence put on them. Another top game from Jimmy Clement, I thought, and we barely missed a beat when Presti was sidelined.

I had to comment on scoreboard chat last night that we had an almost non-existent forward line and yet came up with our second highest score of the year, plus we ran the game out right to the end. We were doing the scoring in junk time each quarter rather than giving it away. To me, signs that the guys are putting all our woes behind them and just getting on with it. Maybe some of you should do the same?

It is truly the season from hell. So many injuries early in the season and now a truckload of injuries late in the season. So many season-ending injuries at that. And yet, we won that game by leading from start to finish, a stark contrast to our first meeting with the Doggies when we struggled to get back into the game after falling well behind early. The impression I'm getting is that we are getting fitter and stronger as the season wears on. Perhaps their conditioning was pretty good after all?

And one thing about the early season injuries, which allowed us to play kids: we've developed a bit of depth, which stood us in good stead last night, and which we are going to need for the rest of the year. We may not make the Eight, but I think we're going to see the blokes fight all the way, and a return to the tough, hard old Collingwood spirit alone makes it all worthwhile.

The Bulldogs are an embarrassment to te AFL. Peter Rohde should be sacked at year end as he is not getting the best out of that playing group. We were depleted with injuries had two players on the bench for a half and played awful footy and they still couldnt even hit the lead. I found that quite funny. Finally we win a game without Tarrant however the bad news was that we no longer qualify for a draft pick.

Benny Johnson played a wonderful game and gave us plenty of run. Burns kick started the team and Bucks was back to his brilliant best. I like Coles attack on the footy and his willingness to take on players.

Tex Walker did a few ok things but he still needs to work on his footy smarts and kick better. His screamer was a good mark however the kick that follwed was terrible. Woeowodin had a shocker imo. He still is very in decisive and holds the play up too long.

It will be very interesting with Richmond next week and more importantly the following players Richardson, Lloyd, Tredrea, Fevola all to come before the year is out. Jimmy Clement is sure going to earn his money.

No matter the quality of the opposition.
We played youngsters and plenty of them. For a young player, at the elite level, a win does much more for his forward progression than a loss does.
Well done Magpies, you did us proud.

Good calls Cannibal. We played the run on style again, which for whatever reason we abandoned against the Cats. I hope this is the beginning of the end of the chipping shite.

As for priority picks.. 2003 #1 and #4 were out there last night. #1 had 0 kicks and #4 had 4.

Cooney will be a Crow or a Puff when his contract runs out you would think. Any draft pick can be a dud. Any.

I thought the best thing about the game was that we wanted the ball more, won a lot of contested possession and were hard at it. Disposal was poor but that's not going to turn around this season, we have 6 months to work on that. Injuries are a blessing in disguise now. The last quarter will probably give us a lot of momentum and I though Tex offered a lot and looked a lot more mature since his last run with the Pies.

Forward line functioned okay without Taz, Rocca and Didak. Still nobody placed front-and-square for the ball that spills from the marking contest.
Surely Gavin Brown needs Leon to do this task?
