PRE-MATCH - PIES v bears - all comments here...
How are we going to go? The optimistic side of me says we should be more than pumped for this one and if we play at our best anything can happen. BUT the pessimistic side of me keeps reminding me it's been a while since we played at our best......

it will pain me to see Rocca trying to take on Brisbanes defense with only half a leg working...
They will continue their strategy of continually ramming into Fraser in the ruck and with bucks in the forward line, black and co will need extraordinary checking.
We have the game plan to beat the Lions at the 'G and i think we have the players as well, but we're just not fit enough to run with them for 4 quarters. Especially with Richards and C2 out. Fraser won't be able to ruck all game. and Ant can't jump with half a leg working.
Taz can win it for us, but with Ant immobile, leppitsch, michael ,white and johnson will just drop back around Taz, and he wont be able to hold them off with his injured shoulder.
Hart and his stupid helmet will dog bucks when he's in the midfield and burns. Licuria will have to play on Black or Voss and Holland will take the other. Cole or Johnno will probably run with Akermanis when he's forward? which is not a good outcome.
I think Wakes and Presti can take Lynch and Bradshaw and even Voss down forward (Lonie?). But all their midfield can go forward, and i dont think we have the energy to man-up for the entire game.
Add to this the absence of C1 who is vital in plugging the gap in front of Lynch to stop his stupid predictable leads.
What am i saying? I always have faith in the pies, but this is gonna be bloody tough.

I can't see where we are going to beat Brisbane on the park. Our players are either injured or out of form or too few are having to do too much. Our disposal is terrible at the moment and add to that the fact we are mentally shot against this team. We are simply not playing the type of footy that can beat Brisbane and I dont see where the turn around will come from!
Brisbane by 6-7 goals.

We will find our EXACTLY how much the Bears game plan envolves around the absence of big-mouth bully Brown. Gee, our CHF's absence rooted our party last september, can we return the favour?. Leppitch will need to man up this week in defence, or they can move him forward to make him look good. That leaves Bradshaw and maggot Lynch to be covered. Job doesn't look so hard without Brown out there?

I just want this game over and done with. I'm usually looking forward to games but i'm not overly confident about this one. I just hope that it can't get as bad as last yr's grand final. I may have to watch this one with the tv sound down so i don;t have to listen to the channel 10 commentators, like i did with the game vs the lions at the start of the year at the gabba.
Come on Pies!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Don't let it be another humiliating loss. If u have to lose to this mob please be in the contest right up till the end.
*Win,lose or draw i'll love the pies forever*.

Despite losing Jonathon Brown, Brisbane have more than adequate replacements. You can always count on Martin Pike and/or Darryl White to step up against the 'Pies for a couple of goals, usually when they count. I don't expect Saturday night to be any different.
The main problem I see is our first quarters. We are so slow off the mark, and Brisbane so quick, we could be eight goals down before we get our act together. When we won the first final last year, we did so by virtue of shutting down Brisbane in the 1st quarter so as to limit the damage they could do whilst we warmed up.
With that in mind, I have drafted a "team selection" aimed at putting pressure on them in that vital 1st quarter.
B: Swan, Wakelin, Clement
HB: Cole, Walker, Maxwell
C: Lonie, Johnson, R Shaw
HF: Buckley, Tarrant, Woewodin
F: Lockyer, Rocca, Burns
FOLL: Fraser, Shackleton, Davis
I/C: Holland, Licuria, Prestigiacomo, Rowe
IN: Shackleton, R Shaw, Walker
OUT: Didak (broken jaw), McKee, O'Bree
As you can see, I have a lot of marking and goal-kicking talent in the forward line, the aim of which is to make sure the Brisbane backline is kept fully accountable, stretched to the limit and their running the ball out of defence restricted (if not eliminated).
I have left our two main "run-with" players - Licca, Holland - on the bench to start with. The aim here is to start out with attacking midfielders, in the hope that Fraser will be beside himself after last week and sets himself for another BOG, in which case we get first use of the footy. Shacks comes in with the aim of helping to crunch a few of the Brisbane midfielders and make them aware from the first bounce that they won't be winning any easy balls.
I've brought back Rhyce Shaw, who has also played well at Willi on the wing, with Lonie opposite him, and Johnno in the centre, to set up an attacking middle line. The interchange bench contains three small blokes and the key is to rotate them onto the field to keep the midfielders fresh. We may not have the excessive talent of the Brisbane Fab Five (Power now qualifies for inclusion) but we can sure keep the pressure on them with relatively fresh legs all night.
I've given Wakelin first shot at Lynch, but have Presti on the bench to step in if Wakes cannot hold him and have brought Walker into the side as further insurance. Walker has been playing top defensive footy at Willi but is also capable of relieving Fraser in the ruck. Jimmy, Cole, Maxwell and Swan are all capable of handling the talls and smalls in Brisbane's forward line. I want this totally committed unit to just blanket the Brisbane forwards and add to the pressure being put on them further up the ground.
I don't know if we can win with this side and gameplan, but think it a vast improvement on our norm.
