North winning was a boost for us; keep us just three games out, so despite losing, we haven't lost ground. There will be more upsets between here and the end of the season.

Mathematically it would only be over if we were three games out with two to go.

Exactly Cannibal, before the Cats game we could probably afford to lose 2 more ... now it is one. 12 will almost certainly get you in, 11 probably will (10 is remote but possible). So we have to win at least 6, preferably 7, and there are 7 games to go.

We had no forward line
Got smashed in the ruck by a quality ruckman
Kicking was very poor
Geelong looked much quicker than us as well

Yeah. People change their minds on players so quickly, don't they?

I have just come onto this site for one reason and thats it.
I am absolutely disgusted to read some of the posts on here and you people call yourself Magpie supporters.....Give me strength.the majority of you would know how to support ANY footy team and you ALL recon that you support the greatest team of all time...PIGS BUM you do.
The Pies tried all night, the Cats had MANY decisions go their way in the 3rd quarter and as a matter of fact I had visitors watch the game with me on Fox Footy and they even stated that the team with the stripes around their belleis had the umpires on their side.I believe that there were 8 to 1 frees given duringthe 3rd quarter amd the bald headed bloke McClaren was the main instigator.
I feel that you people that call yourselves magpie supporters should go follow another club and critizise them as many of the critisism that have been dished out there just wasnt warranted.
You wounder why I want stick around this site....well after reading all the CRAP that has appeared her, there is no wounder.

Mate, there's room on this BB for all points of view. Some of it may be rubbish, some of it might be reasoned criticism, some it is no doubt angry people who are pissed off at the club, players or whatever, in which case it's also a place for them to vent that anger. I have no problem with that, nor should anybody else. If I don't like what someone says then I either say so and put up my own point of view (which no-one is under any obligation to like, either) or ignore it. Saying something which may be trash to someone else does not make anyone any less a supporter.

If I had any energy or initiative I would look at the last quarter possession rate and scores from every game this year. I am sure an analysis would show we have been soundly beaten in most games and are possibly the worst last quarter team in the league in terms of scoring. This would then lead me to the conclusion that through a poor pre-season where we heard continually "the club is 4-6 weeks behind the rest of the pack", and a long list of injuries, that we do not have the endurance or stamina to run out 4 quarters of football. I imagine the stats would also show this is particularly evident in close contests, where a lot is spent early. The Geelong game was the most frustrating to watch throughout on TV, due to the number of times we kicked directly to the opposition especially in the F50. This is not only due to our continued inability to hit targets (ie skill is down on last year), but also due to inferior fitness - which has two facets. One is the ability of other teams to push number back all game and reduce the targets up forward. The second is the fact that the players appear to be tired when disposing of the ball, limiting their ability to make a good decision or use the skill which we know they have.

We now need to blood the youngsters, review our list closely but also review why our conditioning and general fitness has been inferior all year and how we can overcome that for 2005. For example, Neal Daniher said at the start of the season that in 2003 Melbourne were not up to fitness standards of the finals teams and they made dramatic changes to the pre-season. I wonder what they did. Also I wonder what we did and what we need to do differently to make up the gap with the top 4.

I believe we have a playing list that would be competitive for the premiership if their fitness and strength were up to scratch. How did Geelong look so physically superior in the space of 12 months?

trade - O'Bree

Did the same thing as he did against the blues. Missed a gimme at a cruicial stage in the last qtr. Opposition score from the kickin - 12 point turnaround. Gets pushed off the ball too easily and doesn't seem to have any passion for the jumper.

MM continues to frustrate. Putting McKee in the ruck at the start of the final qtr. As I recall he did the same thing against the Hawks a week earlier (this produced 3 Hawthorn goals from centre clearances), only we could afford the consequences then.

Also MM refused to include McGough in the side. His BLATANT FAVOURITSM astounds me! MCG had over 30 posessions against Sandringham last week in the VFL and earned high praise from Brad Gotch (just go the the official site to check). If you remember to last year's Geelong game, it was MCG who turned the tide after half time with his amazing hunger for the footy and quick hands.

Instead Lokan gets listed as an emergency, on the back of his 'stellar' 8 posessions for Williamstown, which even Brad Gotch ackowledged as poor. MM is getting off far too easily, I hope he is grilled about his selection policy and tactics if the club has an annual review.

Actually thought it was a pretty good game. Great pressure in the first half. We must learn how to hold on to a tackle. geelong is a good side, and if I had to pick a side other than us this year it'd be them I'd want to win.

Sure the last half umpiring was crap but it didn't cost us. Had to laugh when mclaren gave that 50 to us for going ovey the mark, he had no choice as he'd just payed them the same thing about 2 min. prior. To say Taz was well held is stating it like it is, he was well HELD. Why Rocca got that free at the end was just stupid, what about the other 25 infringements during the game.

Alf beat me to it, WHAT THE HELL WAS WRONG WITH THE GROUND. Players falling all over the place could not believe it. And if there weren't jumper clashes out there I'll eat my cap.

Bring on season 2005.

Josh needed a rest ... he had been rucking the whole game. With Rocca not 100% the only option was McKee. He just stands there even when King kicked that goal - I admit King was too good on the day - but the least McKee could have done is try to stop him getting easy possessions.

I go right past the Dome every day on the way to work in the CBD. The roof has been open during the day (and night for all I know) for weeks, even when it's been raining. Collins must be trying to soften the ground after all the criticism of it being too hard over the last couple of years and rain is free, unlike water from the tap. My view is it is too soft but, it being a supposedly "indoor" stadium, everyone's been expecting it to be hard. I read that the Geelong players have the choice of screw-in studs or moulded soles on their boots and that the coaching staff went mental at quarter time at those using moulded soles, making them change to screw-in studs. A better choice of footwear would have helped but think it's a case of the ground being very wet and soft and going ultra-slippery when the roof is closed.

we were second to the ball too often and we did not run hard enough for each other they were able to move the ball with little or no pressure on their men I thought Lockyer was our best, Cole made some bad mistakes I know he tries but ablett gave him a bath. Clement and Wakelin were good and held our backline up, our delivery to our forward line needs a lot of work!

Overall we will not make the finals, but I hope we can make a few scalps bleed on the way home!
