Glad I went
I rarely get to see live Pies matches, and whenever I do they have been close Pies wins or we have been flogged.
So I am glad that my visit from Sydney actually delivered a one sided belting which I think was merciful to the Hawks (20.20, inaccurate kicking again).
Thanks to the Club for putting on the brekky, I needed it after coming straight of the train. Good to see Mick acting on Neil's suggestion of giving Leon and Alan a run in the middle of the ground, it paid off well and led to those three goals by Rocca.

I still reckon Rocca got that goal
We didn't get our 40 acres and a mule
But you're my piece of the rock
And I love you CC

I think our inaccuracy was due to the fact that before the game someone asked Mick,
"Hell, what are those big white sticks for Mick?"
His response was "If you kick the ball through them you score son."
Then there was a collective "Awww..." (an awestruck reaction)
At the end of the game Mick said "That was great boys, but you only get 1 point if you don't kick it between the middle ones. Do that and you get 6!"
Another collective "Awww....Right!" with more enthusiasm this time, followed by "CAN'T WAIT TIL NEXT WEEK!"

An interesting comment from Josh Fraser about Leon Davis:
There's no doubt that the highlight of the game from my perspective was that MM used Leon and Dids in on-ball roles. Given all the complaints to date about lack of speed in the midfield, here's clear evidence that we do indeed have quick blokes who can play on the ball. I just hope that this is a sign of things to come.

The more time he spends in there the better he's going to get so that's pretty frightening to think that he performed well today and he's going to get better in that role.

Cannibal is right on the money. Playing Leon Davis and didak in the middle (and the both of them showing they can do it) gives mick confidence in their abilities. It must also give them the confidence to think "right, I can do this midfield thing if i train hard enough!".
practice makes perfect but perfect practice makes a champion-peter daicos

All year there's complaints that the midfield is too slow despite the guys playing there being terrific ball winners (MCG, etc.), then as soon as MM plays some of the quick guys in the middle, they get jumped on for suspected lack of hardness and courage?Ah Tibor wrote: the real test for dids and davs is this week against a decent team which will actually test their hardness (predominant reason why they are not in the midfield more) and courage.
Give 'em a go, first!

Its good to throw Dids and Davis in there as it confuses the opposition. They expect Bucks, Burnsy, Licca and Streach. If we throw Dids and Neon in there it changes the mix. They need to do that again against the fast Cats. Pace has been a real factor this season but we can change that if those two become almost perminent midfielders we could surprise one or two teams.
In the middle, those two will come in handy against the Cats, Dogs and Freo. Whats more they'll burn the Dons!
