we will win. it means more to us. hawthorn are playing for nothing and we can still make finals. if that motivation doesnt get you a win against a bottom team nothing will.

Cannibal, I agree that someone may have to go from the backline but I just think it should be Presti. If he's still rusty from his injuries then fair enough but I don't think he should be playing while he doesn't appear to be fully fit. Maxwell may be the best choice to come in as he's more suited to the quicker Hawthorn forwards. The other possibility I would like to see is Walker who has hardly been used all season.

Tarrant will come in for Lokan
O'bree ( if fit ) will come in for Davis
Shakelton should get a run this week for either Shaw or McGough
McGough seems to spending more & more time on the bench as the season drags on as is Shaw

These bludgers always come out and play like Millionaires against us, hitting every target, even though they couldn't hit the side of a barn the previous week. We know Hank crawford is out, dunno about Mitchell, BUT show no mercy on them, as we don't want to end up the 2004 laughing stock. A payback is in order here.

Now that the season is over, I hope Collingwood have a winning streak or two, maybe knock off Brisbane :) and give the young guys more games.

With a loss by a kick against Sydney you could say we are not far off the mark.So i think there will be minimal changes as MM will pick his best side to win if we lose than it is season over.Tarrant will come in for Lokan
I would give everyone else another chance. Is barlow playing for the haks as he usually has a blinder against us.

If we play as well as we have the last 2 weeks, against 2 top 8 teams, we should be able to account for the Dawks. I can really only see 1 change. Taz will come in for Davis. Would like to see Maxwell & Shak in as well though. Who else would we drop, Lokan & McGough???
I hold a cup of wisdom, but there is nothing within.

This week is time for the Shack attack! I can't wait to see him in action.

Will he and Goughy fit in the same side?

Why would you consider bringing back the turnover king. O'Bree should spend the rest of the season at Willi learning how to kick. Shack has earned a call up with three BOGs in a row.
Do not adjust your mind. The fault is in reality.

McGough shouldnt be dropped.. keep him in for the long run... the only changes we should make, is for tarrant to be brought in, with obree, and j.cloke and r.shaw should be dropped.. if this happens we will have our strongest team so far this year..

I think we should go with...

B: Swan Wakelin Cole
HB: Lonie J Cloke Clement
C: Woewodin Buckley Lockyer
HF: C Cloke Rocca Holland
F: Davis Tarrant Fraser
Foll: Richards Burns Licuria

Int: Maxwell Shackleton Lokan Johnson*

In: Swan Maxwell Shackleton Tarrant
Out: Prestigiacomo McGough Didak Shaw

Cole would get Clay Pidgeon Williams i'd suggest after his jobs lately eg Matera.. Mick is not hiding him, he's putting him out there

Leon has shown more than Dids, at least he's having a dip and trying to get the ball, laying tackles etc - yeah he's made some mistakes. Dids needs some time away to get back to basics.

Lokan is a spare parts man, keep him.

Give Shackleton a game to see what he can do.

Maxwell should be a permanent fixture, bit of Ben Sexton about him, hopefully there might be a bit of Guy McKenna in time.

If Johnson is carrying an injury then rest him and bring in Dids or Shaw. If not his form warrants bench.

Presti doesn't have a match up. Wakelin can kick and run and has more dimensions.

Give Richards a crack at Spider so he can learn how to ruck. He will of course get a lesson.

McGough's goal attempt lands him at Willi. Can't have two trolls under the same bridge with Shack in the side.

Swanny was unlucky to be dropped in the first place. Let him start and let him play.

Holland to tag/run with Joel Smith.

Saying all this, will they make 4 changes? Hmm, dunno.
Get back on top.

The only certainties right now are that Taz will be back and Cam is out with a shoulder injury which will require surgery (see separate thread).

The Davis/Didak issue is one which has serious pros and cons both ways. I don't think we can carry both any more. One needs to drop back to Willi but, whoever stays is on borrowed time. It is "perform or else" and I think no-one should be exempt from being dropped to Willi if in bad form. There are enough kids there in good form to warrant being given their chance in the seniors.

I'm simultaneously developing a view that Lokan has the qualities to develop into a Nathan Brown style player. I would have loved to have grabbed the guy from Footscray, and I'm sure he's deeply regretting moving to Richmond, but am now starting to think we may have our own already in the club. I'd like to persevere with Lokan in the forward line.

I'm worried about Johnno and am becoming convinced he's carrying an injury. If so, then he shouldn't play. His place is in the centre and if he's not up to running all day, then we should rest him until he's over whatever that injury is. It's pretty much useless selecting him only to have him warm the bench all day. Again, we now have some alternatives seemingly capable of stepping up.

I disagree with those who say Wakes over Presti right now. Wakes is out of form and seemingly out of confidence. Presti is not and nearly saved us against Melbourne after Wakes couldn't hold Neitz early. I'm not knocking Wakes' past performances, I'm talking about how he's playing right now and the match ups. Why would you keep a bloke in the side when he's out of form whilst there are others who can cover the role? It no longer makes sense to persevere with experienced players who are out of form and I don't understand why there's such a push to retain Wakes. The suggestion that Tex come in has much greater merit.

I put that quote from FDR in to try to give people a sense of my overall strategy. Whilst it made sense to be conservative earlier in the year whilst we had a truckload of injuries and there remained an opportunity to make the finals, that is no longer true and we can/should take more risks. I'm not suggesting a massive overhaul, but rather a few considered changes. I am very much pro-development and the time has come to see what next year's line-up might be like. We need to move on from this year.
