Do you notice that since the Eagles game when he got injured, his form has dropped. Have a look at his stats before and after that game. Makes me wonder if he is carrying something. Just doesn't look quite right out there.Johnson#26 wrote:Johnson: Yes, he has been below par in recent weeks but still didn't deserve the time he got on the pine. Was good in the last quarter.

Wakes and Presti are a joke
And just who do you suggest we poach at the end of the year to replace them? Darren Gasper? Oh, i just love the way he runs around in circles and turns it over to the oppostion.sq3 wrote:Wakes and Presti are a joke and we need to trade to get good defenders - now anyone who suports those 2 in defense should just stop and think how many goals Taz and Pebbles would kick on them in a full game.
Do you have any idea just how fast and strong Barry Hall is? He beats his opponent most weeks with one arm. Considering how quickly the ball came into Sydneys inside 50, Wakes did a great job. Presti just needs the miles back in his legs.
Taz and Pebbles need to both be on the field together to stop oppostion backmen double-teaming them, and blocking their leads. More often than not they draw the 2 best defenders and kick a good return on their opponents, so hypothetically - Wakes and Presti would be no exception to that.

It has looked to me over the last two games that Wakes is out of form and/or out of confidence. He was moved off Neitz fairly early but fortunately Presti went on to do a good job. Hall was giving him the run-around on Saturday night and it was only the pressure being applied all over the ground that stopped Hall seeing too much of the ball. I wouldn't mind seeing Walker get his chances but, as I've said on another thread, MM isn't going to make radical changes right now and will bring in the new guys progressively. Look for Walker to get his chance to take a permanent place in the defence over summer/the pre-season comp.

Wakes got tossed around like a rag doll and he could not keep pace with Hall - Tex would have at least put up a better job.
Presti is gone and he never had any pace to start with. His poor disposal cost us a goal.
We don't need to trade for better players we need to create better players.
I would play Tex rather than Presti for the rest of this season.
When you see glaring weaknesses in your team you cannot play favourites.
Wakes has given us good service but gets beat easily by Lynch and Hall.
Presti has played well in the past but should not be in the side at the moment - he is a passenger.
As I stated before how many goals would Pebbles and Taz kick on them in a full game - I would not say less than 6+ between the Taz and Pebbles.
That is what we are faced with each week - this needs to be rectified.
Wakes and Presti will probably play on in 2005 but we need to play Tex and Maxwell and also get Crowey on the list off the rookie list.
Defense is our achilles and we only have one Jimmy.

Lynch and Hall easily beat their opponents each week, so give Wakelin a break, as he tries his guts out for a player i didn't even want us to draft in the first place.sq3 wrote:Wakes has given us good service but gets beat easily by Lynch and Hall.

Presti is underdone, not a passanger IMO.
Agreed, Jimmy can't be everywhere at once cleaning up messes.

I've named names in another thread "If you were MM, what would you do?". That's a better place for this type of discussion.pepstar wrote: if we bring in all those players.

I agree Wakes does try hard and I have never doubted his comittment be he is not getting any younger and we need to bring in replacements as he is the 2nd oldest on the list.
I wish we could transfer Wakes skill into Tex's head as he is bigger, stronger and faster - but has to learn.
Presti was never blessed with pace and has only had a few serviceable games this season and has been consistently beaten and in the first 3 games I think he had over 15 goals kicked on him.
Again we need to upgrade if we can - Hall or Crowe.
Maxwell will give us another Jimmy and that would be valuable - but when we compare Mal and Leppa to Wakes and Presti we are a long way behind.
I agree that Hall is strong - but Taz and Gehrig are stronger.
Our attack is fine, mdifiled needs work but defense is our weakest and we can benefit the most by fixing that first.

True - Joel - but as MM and Barney say - you put your best out on the paddock and you are judged by their result.
If Presti was not fit they should have rested him and stuck with Maxwell as he a lot quicker and is way ahead in the disposal stakes on either foot.
I am not trying to be harsh about Wakes and Presti as I still think the conditioning of the whole team has been poor. Wakes has taken some of the best defensive marks in the whole AFL this year.
We need to upgrade our defensive skill set and maybe that involves having a tall defender on the bench and then Tex could have been rotated on to Hall. Alternatively Maxwell would have been a better option, than Presti, on OKeefe.
We need to look forward and with 4 on the bench we should be taking a tall defender.
Tex, Hall and Max can only improve in game time situations not on the benches and this will come in the last 9 rounds. Hall may still not get any games this year but Tex will maybe as early as this week and Max shoud be back as well - but MM will not make 4 changes in any week so I expect Shack, Taz and Tex or OB for MCG, Shaw & Presti or Davis.
We have to start the building process for next year now as then Max, Shack, Swan, Tex, C2 etc., get to play against the Port, Lions, Bombers etc.,
