It wasn’t Ginnivan’s first rodeo into the confusing licensing landscape of the AFL. After playing for Collingwood in its 2023 premiership win, he, along with Bobby Hill, found himself involved in promoting the sale of products deemed outside the AFL boundary.

On both occasions, he escaped sanction. The Hok merchandise episode was officially written off by those who investigated it as a “mistake” and a “lack of understanding” of the AFL industry’s merchandise licensing system.'

^This actually pisses me off. I was thinking way earlier in the season that he should be given a job at the club (development, recruiting, defensive coach, etc). Then the last I heard he was packing up and heading to Queensland to start something new in his life. Feels like another case of dropping the ball by Kelly and Co. I wonder when / if we're going to get some good news regarding our administration...

Totally disagree – I've always been in favour of hiring on merit and qualifications rather than club connection. That's how we got McRae and most of the assistant coaches who took us to 2023. If a former Collingwood player like Reid happens to be the best candidate, then hire him; but he shouldn't be prioritised over superior candidates because he's a favourite son at the club.
