Alex Condon 'potential' Cat.B rookie from August 2024

The club is extremely confident that Condon will return to Australia and become a Pies player in 2025, as all the mock drafts show he is unlikely to be drafted to the NBA.

Let me just say now, if he becomes a Pie next year, we will win the 2025, 2026 and 2027 Premierships. He is taller and considerably more mobile than Cox and is a natural footy player, with elite skills. He will immediately transform our side, and he's only 20 yrs!

This is exciting to read! All the questions about the immediate future of Collingwoods team focus on the lack of a key forward so if Alex Condon arrives next year then that problem may be solved just in time to replace an aging Mason Cox and Brody Mihocek. I'm hoping that Alex Condon is Collingwoods answer to Sam Darcy at the Bulldogs who some pundits are already claiming will be the best player in the AFL by end of 2025!

There's others, Alex Keath and Simon O'Donnell's kid both stepped from cricket basically straight into AFL without needing significant development and they Weren't that highly rated as juniors

Disagree on Alex Keath. Cricket had high hopes for him. And folks were all banging on about the difficult decision he had to make. Wouldn't be difficult if he was so-so at footy!

Condon hasn't yet conceded his dream of a career in the NBA (or other leagues) is over, and he has to come to that realisation himself first. It doesn't seem likely, but neither can we rain on his parade.

He is not going to get drafted to the NBA, (maybe he could have been if he concentrated on only basketball all his life). The question will be whether he wants to play football, or the less brutal game of basketball where he can possibly still get very good money in the lessor leagues.

Hopefully he will give football a go - he can always return to basketball if it does not work out

Most pundits seem to doubt he'll get drafted to the NBA in July. If it unfolds as expected, he will then turn his attention back to AFL and come to Collingwood as a Category B rookie (since he has been at an overseas University for 3 yrs). The only uncertainty is whether he loves life in the US so much that he decides to remain in the US for another one or two years, to complete his studies and continue his (ever more faint) dream of being drafted to the NBA in 2026. Fwiw, I'm expecting the big fella will be in black and white by August 2025 and could even feature in our finals campaign. All the mail I've heard tells me he is that good.

He would have to familiarise in the VFL and break in the seniors.
