I have been to many a Best and Fairest night at various football levels and they are all the same. It's an awards night, speeches most of which are boring. It's pretty hard to jazz them up. Most attendees are there to get on the turps as it's the last official function of the year at the footy club.

Thrilled for Nick. What a story the Daicoses have been. All three have premiership medals to go with the Copelands.

So glad to see Cameron being acknowledged in second. According to the AFL umpires in the Brownlow he didn't even play.

I've seen some strange behaviour at B&F's before. From erratic fans, to drunken players. One year I went for a photo with a player and I ended up holding him up as he struggled, it was an even bigger struggle for me as I'm not the biggest guy around, and what was worse, my Mrs didnt get a photo of it.

I've seen some fans be to forward towards players and that is always very awkward to see. I think that's gotten better as the years go on.

One year I got to meet Murray Weideman which was great as he was my Dads favourite player.

The Gavin Brown Medal voting on Nick's picked the top 6 and, save that Crisp who finished 4th in the Copeland was ranked 6th behind Pendlebury, the GBM had the top 6 in the same order as the Copeland. Here's the comparison:

GBM Final Leaderboard -

1. Nick Daicos 86 - first in Copeland
2. Darcy Cameron 53 - second in Copeland
3. Josh Daicos 31 - third in Copeland
4. Steele Sidebottom 28 - fifth in Copeland
5. Scott Pendlebury 26 - sixth in Copeland
6. Jack Crisp 24 - fourth in Copeland

That said, the GBM voting didn't get any of 7-10 in the Copeland order. Looks like Nick's overrated the seasons of De Goey, Noble, Frampton and Elliott and underrated the seasons of Lipinski, Hill, Maynard and Moore.

Would appear Collingwood certainly rate Lipinski higher than some on Nicks.
He was sixth in his first year at the club, missed half the season in his second and then finished seventh in 2024. He’s a bit vanilla but he’s a two way runner and plays his role very well … obviously.

^ He is an extremely creative player and his ball use is very damaging. I haven't looked particularly at his stats this season but he has typically been high for score involvements in previous years. He just does smart things with ball in hand. I think he gets marked down by some on here because he isn't "hard at it" - pretty stupid, really because he isn't built like Maynard.

Edit - I just looked up the 2024 score involvement numbers for Collingwood. Lipinski was 4th (and only a whisker behind 3rd) - Nick 169, Bobby 125, Josh 111, Paddy 109.

I'd be interested to see the complete voting table to see where the likes of DeGoey, McCreery and Quaynor were rated? Congratulations to Nick Daicos who is clearly the standout talent at the club, but I was a bit surprised how well Josh Daicos went especially as I think he was carrying some significant niggles for a big proportion of the year. Josh is not as flashy as his brother and a lot more understated but clearly does a lot of things the coaches appreciate during the season. I think his best game for the year was the last game against Melbourne. Hopefully Josh will be able to maintain that sort of form into next season to help propel Collingwood back into a top 4 position again.

^ Likewise. For a few years (from about 2008), the Club published the whole final vote tally but they don't seem to have gone past tenth for many seasons, now.

^^^
I reckon DeGoey was good when he was on the park, his game against Port and the first half against the Hawks in Gather Round probably the stand outs although hospital kicks led to injuries for Mitchell and Pendles affecting part of their season. JDG's goal in the Crows game won it and his 2 goals in SP400 were important too. I was surprised he was so high in the GBM given his lay-offs.

Frampton was good early before his versatility affected him and the forward ruck role destabilised half of his season.

Noble was pretty consistent all year, tried his guts out, tried to break too many tackles and his kicking efficiency was there abouts. I think he played well for us in many games where we didn't get the results but some of his decision making and kicking let him down. he's been marked pretty hard by the coaches 2 seasons in a row so maybe this is no surprise he still requested the trade despite being in the team for most of the year.

Elliot had some obvious highlights with the first Brisbane game and the MOTY contender on Anzac Day. The stats say he had an above average year for possessions and scores but his accuracy, pressure, efficiency and pretty much every other stat was down.

Further to the comments above on Lipinski I recall he had a great game in that important come from behind win against Port and got on the end of some great team goals.

Hill - MOTY, was furiously electric at times but tried to do too much at other times. I think in the first third of the season our Fwd 50 connection was poor and Hill suffered from the routine long bombs being picked off too easily by the opposition defenders. The roos game and that mark was an obvious highlight.

I thought Maynard was typically solid and we shouldn't underestimate his value in the defence, think he was destabilised like Moore from the loss of Murphy all season and Howe for large parts of it. He was beset with off field personal issues also which clearly affected him, even if not on the park. Fantastic comeback against the roos for his 200th!

Moore was there but hardly near it in the first half of the season. I don't know if he had other issues other than the obvious Murphy and Howe gaps. Perhaps the expectation was too much for him early, particularly after the 0-3 start. Perhaps it was some personal issues. I don't think it was injury despite the team's woes, seemed between the ears to me. The bye seemed to do him well and he appeared to come back more relaxed and with a smile. Maybe his support for Petracca post his KB injuries gave Moore some clarity and helped to reinvigorate his season. Something changed post the return from GC either way.

Obviously we vote on what we see as the game unfolds but what we aren’t aware of is the roles the coach assignes to players
Hence the final votes for Lipinski
Another noticeable thing is 3 players who finished in the top 6 are all aged over 30
It’s either there performance is still strong or a indication of how our younger players aren’t performing to the level required
Anyways congratulations to all award winners

^ The 3 of them have each won at least 2 Copelands and have been amongst our best players for the last 7 to 10 years, so it isn't much of a surprise that they're still going stong. Luckily for us, they're all going to play a few more seasons.

Asking for a friend. Is something going on behind the scenes with Brayden Maynard? Did Fly miss out on his games milestone in his Copeland Speech or did I mishear it?

Interesting looking at the top 10 in our B&F:

3 were organic draft picks (Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Maynard)
4 of the 10 were 1st round picks (Naicos, Sidebottom, Pendlebury, Moore)
4 of the 10 were trades (Cameron, Crisp, Lipinski, Hill)
1 of the 10 was an organic 2nd round draftee (Maynard)
3 were F/S selections (Naicos, Jaicos, Moore)
3 were older than 30 y/o (Pendlebury, Sidebottom, Crisp)
5 were under 30 y/o > 25 y/o (Cameron, Maynard, Moore, Lipinski, Jaicos)
2 were under 25 y/o (Naicos, Hill)

1. Nick Daicos = National Draft F/S pick #4
2. Darcy Cameron = Drafted by Sydney with National Draft pick #48
3. Josh Daicos = National Draft F/S pick #57
4. Jack Crisp = Drafted by Brisbane with Rookie Draft pick #40
5. Steele Sidebottom = National Draft pick #11
6. Scott Pendlebury = National Draft pick #5
7. Patrick Lipinski = Drafted by Western Bulldogs with National Draft pick #28
8. Bobby Hill = Drafted by Greater Western Sydney with National Draft pick #24
8. Brayden Maynard = National Draft pick #30
10. Darcy Moore = National Draft F/S pick #9

"Dont approach the players, it's their night" - BT every year. Maybe he should take that advice when going into the rooms on a Friday night.
Wonder if BT is instructed to be so aggressive to the fans... or if he just truly hates them. Did some fan do something to him in his playing days? :o
