Lachie Schultz (Shooter)

What people fail to appreciate is that everyone’s a genius in hindsight.
Did anyone really believe Collingwood would finish out of the top 4 this year?

Re: #8 Lachie Schultz
The trouble with the Schultz trade is this;
He is slow, not skilled and lacks awareness.
These must have been apparent when the recruiters were looking at him.
Most Nixsters would not be very familiar with LS before this year.
I certainly wasn't.
His 2 good traits of giving his all and a fine tackler are not enough to give him a gold star.
This obvious lack of overall talent must have stood out like dogs balls.
He may and I say may have been worth a second round pick only.
So for those who say hindsight is a wonderful thing.
I say the recruiters and the club were incompetent when they paid that much for him.
Most Nixsters could see this in 2024 after viewing LS.
Why didn't the recruiters or Club see this.

And yet, despite being slow, unskilled and having no awareness, he finished fifth and sixth in the last two best and fairests he was at Freo. Looks like Freo didn’t see that either.
We won a flag on the back of aggressive trading and player acquisitions. Win some, lose some.

^We did not need another small forward.
Maybe Freo did.
We certainly did not need this.
Not one person on this planet would think that the deal was a good one.

^Unskilled and yet sits above the player he replaced for goals per game, that guy must have been a real dud.

Re: #8 Lachie Schultz
Ok, so we overpaid for Schultz. I think a 1st and F2nd should have been more than enough, even just the single 1st. Can't do much about it now.
Hopefully we can do something this trade period to help make up for losing that extra 1st.

It was about the deal!eddiesmith wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 11:03 am Unskilled and yet sits above the player he replaced for goals per game, that guy must have been a real dud.
Ginny we did not give away but paid the Hawks a lot for them to have him.
LS we paid a first round pick and a bit more.
Both trades were a disaster.
We are now scrambling on the trade front by trying to get a first round pick with trading Noble and some more currency.
We ended up with nothing.
Not much difference between Ginny and LS.
Although I reckon Ginny has more trade value than LS at the moment.

Re: #8 Lachie Schultz
I would hazard a guess here that most of our Freo trades have worked out ok over the long run.
We've had a few beauties of course, take a bow James Clement and Paul Medhurst and the returning Chris Tarrant!
Chris Mayne was good on balance but not the early hype.
I'm hopeful LS has already hit his low point, ends up in the Mayne bucket and anything more will be a bonus.

Ed Allen kicked our last goal of the year at the 58minute mark of the last quarter

Re: #8 Lachie Schultz
Medhurst had one outstanding year at Collingwood (three at Fremantle) and the other three years were good. His output this year is on par with Medhurt's three 'good' years.
Medhurst kicked 36, 50, 41, 27, 12 then at Collingwood 24, 50, 22, 12.
Schultz kicked 4, 12, 22, 30, 33 then at Collingwood 24.
Schultz is 26 and will be at Collingwood for awhile (awhile or a while I've gone for 'awhile', that he will be here for a long period of time). Plenty of time to fit in, not try too hard, to succeed. This year's output is on par with

Re: #8 Lachie Schultz
Freo got majorly screwed in getting Tarrant, 3 way deal which Collingwood and Richmond both came out well in front. We got Medhurst, Reid and Goldsack.
Fasolo ended up being worth more in when we got Tarrant back.

Gavin Brown Award (Best Defensive Pressure) = Lachie Schultz.
Amazing considering he's

Remains an integral player in our forward mix. Hoping he has an uninterrupted pre-season now that the removalist boxes are packed away.slow, not skilled and lacks awareness.

"Shultz does the job the Coaches want not what Supporters want". It's no surprise to me that he received the Gavin Brown Award. Statistics do not show what transpires on game day, congrats Lachie.

I concur. I have already put my neck out and said that next year after a good pre season, Sargent Schultz will be better, more settled into the forward line and be the valuable player the club knows he is.
I term the current Collingwood attack based strategy “Unceasing Waves” like on a stormy and windy day with rough seas. A Perfect Storm

Re: #8 Lachie Schultz
Do we ever really account for or remember the wasted picks ? We do forever remember the extra pick we paid for a player.
Quality depth is fundamental to success. ST. Kilda fab 4 , 5 or 6 gets you nowhere.
Sometimes we pick up good players for cheap. Crisp. Perryman, Hill etc
If the stars align we can pick up the legend... its about balance and keeping things moving along waiting for that true opportunity.
The alternative is a whole lot of hail Mary's and everyone is happy with the draft and seasons highlights, but wonder why we always keep missing the 8. IMO

Re: #8 Lachie Schultz
One thing about Schultz which many seem to overlook, is what a great mark he is for his size. He is a one grab mark. He's no Jamie Elliott or Bobby Hill, but he's good nonetheless. Like others, I expect he'll be more settled in our team next season and he'll demonstrate why we got him.
