AFLW 2024 Practice Matches

Post by Dark Beanie »

Pies played Cats in a match sim yesterday at AIA Centre.
Couldn't find any scores but interview with the Cats coach sounds like they won.

Next weekend is practice matches for all teams.
Pies travel to Perth for a match against Fremantle on Saturday.
Hopefully they have a good hit out with no injuries.

27 year old was at the Richmond v Bulldogs match sim yesterday.
Tigers looking good but possible knee injuries to a player from each team.
Edit: ACL injuries confirmed

Geez, I dont feel enthused in any way for this years AFLW. And this is coming from someone that knows a lot of AFLW players. Perhaps I'm in the minority, but I still feel like the season should not begin in August.

I agree Presti.

The season should run concurrently with the various state leagues, if not for all but part of their season.
Ridiculous that the AFLW will be the only female football comp running after September.
How can you develop players or bring in players in the event of injury if they have already completed their year?

The NRL starts their womens comp later in the year, but they have still commenced their season. Although the sheduling of the games is ordinary (6.30pm on a Sunday, pfft). They do have fewer teams at present though.

The fact that the AFLW has increased by 1 round but to accomodate it they have a compacted draw, shows how stupid the leadership is.

This whole arguement about 'clear air', not having to compete against the mens competition for media coverage is moot as they come up against AFLM finals, Spring Racing and cricket season.
