Several, maybe 6 or so, years back, I thought JDG was destined to be as great as Dusty, and go on to become one of our greatest ever players.
Sadly, he has not lived up to my obviously over the top expectation.
He is still a great player, and on his day, is a genuine match winner. However, whether it's been injuries, or (perhaps) less than elite conditioning and preparation, he has failed to achieve the heights I still believe he could have reached. He has never been an All Australian and has never won a Copeland.
I now doubt he ever will. Don't get me wrong, he's still one of my favourite players, but I can't help but feeling disappointment at what could/should have been.
In light of his current (OP) groin injury, and the fact that he will be 29 before the start of next season, it is apparent to me that his best football may already be behind him.
I still hope he has a few good years to go, but the likelihood is that we may not ever get a great season out of him.
I hope he proves me wrong and wins the Norm Smith this year or next.
Have we seen the best of Jordan de Goey?

They said that about Swanny.
Let him see his mortality, give him a decent preseason

Well we all know he isn't winning the Norm Smith this year.
The comparison with Dusty overstated JDG's ceiling. He was never going to be Dusty-like. Dusty is a generational player.
So in saying that, JDG is probably is good as he was ever going to be. A 200 game Premiership player. But never to be spoken about when we talk about the game's best / better players.

Re: Have we seen the best of Jordan de Goey?
Been a very good player for us, but I think he has been overhyped by some in the media. The comparisons to Dusty were fleeting around 2018/19, but I think everyone stopped believing it after a while.
Overall, he's had a good career and won a Premiership. Maybe lacks he some individual accolades such as the B&F and All-Australians, but I think he'll be happy with his overall achievements.
I hope he still has a few good years left in him.

you can do all the comparisons but he is our best kick for goal from pretty much anywhere inside the 50m arc or outside the 50m
Ed Allen kicked our last goal of the year at the 58minute mark of the last quarter

Probably, but we're yet to see the best of Ginnivan.

Re: Have we seen the best of Jordan de Goey?
I would say my biggest concern of JDG is we've rarely seen him play through a whole season without missing games.
2015 = 16 (missed 6)
2016 = 20 (missed 2)
2017 = 14 (missed 8]
2018 = 21 (missed 5)
2019 = 17 (missed 7)
2020 = 10 (missed 9)
2021 = 20 (missed 2)
2022 = 19 (missed 6)
2023 = 21 (missed 5)
2024 = 12 (missed 7)**
He hasn't a very long injury layoff in his career which is a positive, but it's now become expected he will miss around half a dozen games a season based on past trends.

Re: Have we seen the best of Jordan de Goey?
He can be a game breaker but can also play in 3rd gear when he's not feeling it. We don't win the GF last year without him.
I sense, if/when he gets over this latest issue, if we have a run at the flag in 2025 he could just put together a season for the ages. I think we're yet to see his sustained best, it's up to him, if boy, mind and motivation all come together we could see a 2 year burst of brilliance. Or not.

Every dead body on Mt Everest was once a highly motivated person, so maybe just calm the **** down.

Isn't that the problem? If he were a little less content, maybe then ....
