How the hell are we going to get decent draft picks when we have none?23 YIPPEE!!! wrote:Just going through the motions now time to blood the kids now season done
Thank god we won the premiership in 2023
Time to rebuild again
Turf put some players
Fly has run out of tricks in 2024
Endless injuries
Too much false hope
Interesting to see our membership numbers now
22 and 23 was our ride
Mothball this season
Reload for 2025 and clear the slate
Enough said
Who are we going to sell?
Can we get 3 first round draft picks for N Daicos?????
The cliff is right there.
And please no discards, rookies and non national draft picks.
We have a swag of these.

Could be the bottle of red but the positive is, we only lost by 12 points against probably the 3rd best side?stoliboy wrote:Positives: The game is over!
IMO it’s going to be too late to rally by the time we click again but the season is that close we can probably win it from 5-8 if we get in. I think we drop a few more though and that might be out of reach.
The match day thread is for unfiltered BS knee jerk reactions. The time for level headed comment comes after.

Pathetic.
If Fly says “we’re not finished” or “we’re gonna get busy” one more time I’ll spew up.
The season was there for the taking after King’s Birthday … and we’ve shat if away in a fortnight.
Won’t even have the opportunity to deny Carlton from winning their 17th flag. This season has been a freakin’ pathetic exercise in hubris.seriously, to take just 2 points from Ess in 2024??? GAGF.

I know there are those who have suggested that a flag this year might be a bridge too far.
Given the injuries, this may well be the case.
Others have suggested that 2025 will be our year once more.
I fail to see where the big improvement will come from.
I would certainly bring McInnes in for next week and Noble if he is recovered from the concussion.
We missed the cleverness of Elliott and the ball-winning capacity of Mitchell, the ruck chop out provided by Cox, the grunt of McStay and McCreery but most of all, we lacked the workrate required to stop Essendon chipping the ball around the field.
There is no easy game in this competition and we will do well to make the eight.
IF and it is a big IF we get our players and our mojo back, we could cause mayhem in September, but they are two big ifs...
Oh, and whilst we are on the subject of umpires, we will not make the eight if the umpires continue to fail to call the blatant holding and scragging of both Nick Daicos and De Goey at ball ups.
It was absolutely criminal how the game was officiated this evening...
Long looked a positive influence when he came on-

Lot of focus from board members here on players…fair enough.
But I am concerned about our predictability, I love we play thru the middle with that high risk stuff but Essendon manned the centre tonight, they knew we were going there and turned it over many times or halved the contest at least stopping our run. Lot of our players were tackled in the corridor, they were ready for us. That made that -lay ineffective.
Don’t abandon that style completely but I’d like to see us shake it up a bit. Keep them guessing as to where we are going.

If it is mostly a question of work rate, I am confident that is something we can address.warburton lad wrote:I know there are those who have suggested that a flag this year might be a bridge too far.

However, I fear it is a definite deficiency in our midfield.
We need the inside personnel to go and get that ball which Tom Mitchell provided.
Ned Long should have played the entire game tonight, because he is a candidate for fulfilling that role...and we needed him from the beginning.
Absence of Cox is really hurting us. Sometimes you only understand the value of something when you temporarily lose it.
Frampton was lost tonight, did not know what he should have been doing. Thought that was bad coaching.
Injuries are the grim reaper for us.
Every time we play a game, I am scared who will be next one cut down by his scythe.
Edit: Just read that IQ might be injured as well. FFS. All i can say is: the pressure is off our coaches/sport scientists. If they can get us in a position to contend this year, then I will just be so amazed/grateful.

Like we have a choice thanks to Hine?masoncox wrote: The cliff is right there.

Thing is, we can easily delist any discards, rookies and non national draft picks from years prior because they cost us NOTHING, nor demand lengthy expensive contracts.
And NOTHING is effectively all we have going to the draft in 2024.
So raiding UFAs is perhaps our only choice to strengthen the list for 2025.
I wouldn't be spooked by the previous procuring of UFAs Wells, Greenwood and Mayne at end of 2016; as I don't consider those a failure, but a gamble which almost paid off in 2018.
