Really looking forward to Friday’s clash with the Bummers. This will be a gladiatorial battle with no quarter asked or given…the loser will be relegated to the bottom half of contenders…whereas the winners will maintain a top 4 position on the ladder….massive implications for either side either way.
Considering McCreery and Noble are out injured which leaves two spots to fill. I think Sullivan needs to go back to the VFL and get some confidence and mongrel back in his game. On Saturday against the Suns he lacked any sort of controlled aggression or physicality and was playing as though he believed he didn’t belong…that he was only a role player…not worthy to be out there. He needs to start playing angry and not let anyone or anything out there overshadow or bully him. From almost 70% game time he had 9 disposals, no tackles, and no clearances, and was routinely shoved and pushed out of the way…just seemed totally overwhelmed at times. This is in stark contrast to the way he goes about it in the Magoos.
So, that means Schultz in. McInnes in. And possibly Ned Long for his CFC debut. I’ve had a chance to better look at this kid and a 194cm/90kg goal scoring inside midfielder might be exactly what we need right now. On debut for the VFL team several weeks ago he had 28 disposals, 17 tackles, and a goal. I think he averages 11 tackles a game and is usually good for at least a goal.
If not Neddy, then Dean should come back in freeing up Frampton to support DC in the ruck. The Mighty Pies by 21.
GO PIES!!!!!?

Collingwood Mid-Season Rookie Draft selection Ned Long will make his Club debut on Friday night in the Magpies’ Round 17 clash against Essendon.
The midfielder debuts after being elevated from the Club’s VFL program. He was selected with Pick 19 in the Mid-Season draft after playing six games at VFL level for the Pies.
Long previously played for Hawthorn where he made his AFL debut against the Western Bulldogs in Round 23, 2022 at University of Tasmania Stadium in Launceston. The 194cm midfielder went on to play a further four games for the Hawks in 2023 before being delisted.
In the VFL in 2024 Long has played a total of seven games, averaging 22.1 disposals and nine tackles including a whooping 17 tackles in Round One versus Sandringham.

Exactly - go for it Ned - you know you're made for this.WhyPhilWhy? wrote:I love the sound of "194cm midfielder". Bring it , Ned!
This game will show if my long-held theory that the bombers are pretenders this year, is valid. Or not.
It feels one of those pivotal games to me. I expect Fly will have our boys primed for this one.

I watched Ned a few times in the VFL before we drafted him and he (albeit being a few years older) just stood out against our AFL players. Good young man, takes metres and can kick. Congrats Ned, play well.
