The wheels are off in the vfl and I wouldn’t say we have had a long injury list.

VFL pies missing finals this year. Tough run of away games to start the season, we play more away games than home for the year. Would be a remarkable turnaround from here to grab the last finals spot

When do we start getting concerned about young Allan not showing much at vfl level?

I am worried about this kid Allan. Watched him a couple of times. He’s good on the outside in space. He’s skinny through the hips and waist and has a high centre of gravity. Too easily pushed out of the contest in tight and close. He was a slider in the draft remember. I don’t remember the knock on him but as a tall mid, he would be snapped in half by the likes of Cripps and Butters and Rowell etc. As an outside runner he might be ok but haven’t seen enough of that on the VFL grounds down south. The QLD grounds appeared larger and there was a lot of space, the stats sheet says he didn’t use that or was unable to use that to advantage.the jury is out for me

The Magpies headed north without rested pair Ned Long and Jack Hutchinson. While the Magpies battled lion-heartedly, they didn’t have the class to match Southport, with Jack Bytel (27 disposals, seven clearances), Fin Macrae (26 disposals, nine clearances, seven entries) and Sam Glover (20 disposals, five marks, six rebounds, one goal) playing well.
