Unfortunately today, we threw away the game and may very well have thrown away our season. Hell yes, we can still make the finals, but there does come a time when you have to take your hand off your D#@K and look at things realistically.
I thought the turning point of the game was when Leon missed from 30m out and kicked it on the full. This is why I do not have a high opinion on Leon. The way he kicked the ball, all he looked as if he wanted to do was stick his finger up in the air and act the show pony.
To use injuries and suspensions as an excuse in an absolute cop out. The intensity just completely vanished in the 4th quarter. In also heard supporters say we looked tired. Melbourne had two tough road trips in a row to Brisbane and WA. If anything, they should have looked tired, but they wanted the win more!
A Grade: Licuria and J Cloke.
B Grade: Burns, Clement, Fraser and Holland.
C Grade: Woewodin, Buckley, McGough, Richards.
D Grade: C Cloke, Davis, Presti, Lokan, Didak, Cole and Johnson.
E Grade: Shaw, Maxwell, Lockyer and Lonie.
F Grade: Wakelin.

Turning point was definitely that miss by leon in 3rd qtr. He kicks it we lead by 35. Instead ball travels up field for Dees goal and it's a 23 pt game. The dees realised they could still win the game at that point and the mood changed. That's all it takes unfortunately in this modern game. Momentum becomes everything.
Again in the last qtr we trailed by 3 with the ball in Leon's hands and players open up forward. A clanger and the opportunity goes begging.
Bloody disappointing result because we should never have let them back in the game. We just can't kill teams off at the moment, it's been a big problem over the last month, even against the ordinary teams.

Well done "JASON CLOKE" fantastic game in defense.Would have to be his best game this year.I cant understand we actually had a 10 day break and looked so run down late in the 3rd quarter. You cant win games by playing 1 and half quarters of Great footy.Deja vu the Carlton game.It makes you feel so sad to see the boys struggling like that.

REALLY p*ssed off at the moment, I don't want to say anything because i know im going to be too negative...
But there is no chance Buckley was a C today, made crucial mistakes and kicked horribly. D at best, on his standards more likely an E. This isn't me having a go at him, just pure facts.
I just want to say, sh*t player management by MM, no legs in the last quarter and we practically allowed them to walk all over us, unopposed. And can you believe Lokan was allowed to be double teamed for the whole second half? That was the game breaking move IMO, Daniher finally put a spare man in our forward line, and we barely scored after that.
Mick, you are out of form mate.

Spoljar yor ratings pretty accurate. Thought Clement probably deserved an A though with JC, Cole did nothing too wrong all day and continues to improve in my book, definitely a C, Maxwell has definitely got class, Shaw had a great 1st qtr and then basically got minimal game time. Cam's 2nd qtr was fantastic, exciting stuff from the big fella. There were still mostly good signs with pretty even contributions across the team.

Davis's missed shot and all may have been the turning point, but it didn't cost us the match, only the momentum at that point in play.
Everyone should consider the three goal start we gave them.
Everyone should consider that Yze barely had an opponent when he went forward.
Everyone should consider C2 hitting the post from 20 out.
Everyone should consider that 22 players stopped running midway through the third quarter
Everyone should consider we had ten player with less than 10 disposals, comparative to Melbournes 5
As much as I'd like to single out Leon, it was only a moment in a game that was lost by 22 players, not 1

It's time for Leon Davis to go, give a kid a chance that actually has a future not this pathetic excuse for a player who obviously isnt committed to the club. Hes all flash and no heart tried to do some fancy **** snaps when all he had to do was kick it straight. Put the ball on the full a number of times. He is averaging around 8 touches and a goal a game this year which isnt good enough. He is not the only reason we lost but this isnt the first time hes performed like this - get rid off him.
Buuuulllllllshit!
Bux's shot from 50 directly in front? Point.
Lokans shot from 30 directly in front? Point.
Why blame one on the run attempt?
Oh, and who gave Johnno kicking in duties? Stupid, stupid, stupid.

another dissappointing loss........ this and the carlton one has cost us a spot in the 8....those 2 wins would make us equal 8th.... out on %
All year we manage to start slow and be down by 20-30 then come back and win or be 20-30 up and lose .....This area needs to be fixed up badly wether we have youngsters or not u shouldnt lose games when 30 up in dredfull conditions

Absolutely shattering, Melbourne didn't win the Pies lost it!
Mick Malthouse... where do I start???
Rhyce Shaw was hardly on the ground and when he was, was quickly taken off. Last week he shut down one of the in form players of the competition in Judd and you praised his efforts and this week not give him a go. When he was on he was free and setting up goals. All that confidence will disappear.
Mark McGough why wasn't he on the ground in that last quarter???
I could go on but it will only make me more frustrated.
Having no forward line is not an excuse when you are 30 bloody points up. Where was the heart???
luv jess

I really would love to know what is going on with McGough and Shaw.
There must be a reason for their removal. McG was removed when he was leading getter on the ground.
Shaw was removed just after setting up a goal.. He was getting a lot of ball and putting his head over it up till that point...

Some heartening things - Maxwell, Richie, C1, C2 at times, Bucks got through the game, Tarks will keep improving with every game, Brodie will be better for the run!
In the last quarter missing Rocca and Taz made a huge difference - not only their experience but the ability to read the play and put pressure on the backmen - you only have to look at who kicked their goals in the last quarter!
When endurance and effort fall away - pure talent and skill still shine through a la Tazz - disappointing to lose but I can't see how they can consider themselves something special - 9 point win against no Taz No Rocca Underdone Bucks & Brodie!
As for MM's coaching and moves????I have NFI!

Very similar to previous losses (eg) Carlton and West Coast from 2003 where we wasted opportunities when well on top. As with those games you could literally feel the belief draining by the second. In the West Coast 2003 game it was Didak missing an easy shot and the momentum swang. Today it was undoubtadly the Davis miss that changed the momentum however we should be disappointed in the bulk of the players for dropping their efforts after that point.
At the end of the day Melbourne were too good.
However, focusing on Tarrant and Rocca missing is in my belief misguided. To me the simple fact was Melbournes small forwards are so much better than ours that it was a bit of a joke. Davies was so dominant and elusive that Cole and Johnson were not sure what to do. Even in the first half when we were on top Davies had those two in all sorts. However our boys (Didak and Davis) really didn't worry the Melbourne defence at all as even when they take possession that are simply not dangerous, especially Davis. I have been a big rap for Leon but he and Dids both have the ability to lose a match equally as they do to win it. But teh question must be asked - why does one miss change the complexion of the game? To me the answer was Melbourne got their shit together, are a better team regardless of Taz and Rocca, this year, and the better team one.
Also Richards into the ruck in the third was a turning point, Josh was dominant and in my opinion Richards was well beaten.
4-8, low percentage, future still looks good with the kids today, however I believe finals are gone and it is time to play Shak, Nixon, Mullins in place of proven performers to prepare for the future.
Also Rhyse Shaw was our best in the first quarter, should have been used all game, at least try him with his pace on Davies and rotate into our slow midfield.
