Not a strong finish to the game by the boys, but that is what generally happens with teams filled with young, inexperienced players. On top of that Bux is not fit yet and missing our 2 key forwards didn't make it easier the longer the game went on. Listening to the game on the radio it really sounded like we ran out of legs which tells me our young blokes aren't quite strong enough to run a full game out yet.

Hate to rub salt into my own wounds, but without a doubt we would have won with Tarrant, especially in last half of last q when had noone up forward - so thanks tribunal. Not sure about leaving Shaw's fresh legs on the bench in last q either.

Looks like season over but not absolutely sure I suppose.

Here's one way to look at it...

We're a team carrying three first-year players today. We have a ton of players returning from big injuries who'll need a lot more time to get back to the level they were at (Buckley, Lockyer, Burns, etc...). We have players slowly coming in and cementing spots (like McGough), and we have players returning from absences (Presti and Holland).

We were 13th on the ladder to the Demons...4th? 3rd? Whatever...And we came out of it with a 9 point loss. Did we have the lead? Yes. Should it have been a winning lead? Sure. But losses like these only add experience to the younger boys.

There are positives to take out of this, and we're a much better team than our W\L reflects and we'll see this next year. For now, let's ride out what we have, evaluate and build, and we'll be right as rain.

This is only one year out of the one-hundred-plus that Collingwood's been around. We'll be around for a lot more with some better years ahead.

Relax.
Match in the gas tank...

Boom, boom.

It was the Carlton tragedy re-visited, to give up a 5 goal lead is a bit of a worry though. But I think that sort of thing will happen a few more times this year until we get more hardness and endurance into our younger players. This year feels alot like 2001 where we get close but fall a bit short when it counts.

Can't expect to win matches of football when you only average ten goals per game, regardless of who is in the team.

Bloody disappointing to drop a 30 point lead, to run out of legs and significantly, not have anyone up forward for the second half.

Don't wnat to hear our season rested on todays game cos its rubbish, and if good enough the pies can play September footy, but rest assured, if we are up by 30 points next time and don't bury the team we are playing against, I'll be the first one to ark up.

Its not who you miss on gameday, its where you miss them, and we didn't have anyone, Jason Cloke the exception (his form continues to improve) that wants to hit people in a contested mark situation and cause a spillage, and that there my friends, is the value of Anthony Rocca.

Leon Davis and his smart arse attempt at goal cost us. The rain stopping didn't help much either.
Best 2nd and 3rd quarters for many months tho.

Honourable loss? no i don't think so we should have won. Wayne Brittains definining moment was in the third qtr when leon davis had a chance to kick a goal but missed(then kicked a goal later) from that point onwards melbourne seemed to take control. Just a question to mick why was'nt buckley put on the ball when melbourne kicked the first 2 goals of the last qtr was he 100% fit. and to the melbourne supporters who held the finals over banner what comes around goes around.

Good post makkawakka.

If you took a poll on Friday asking who will get trounced by 11 goals - the loser of Bris/Ess or the loser of Coll/Melb ? - how do you think the majority of footy fans would've voted ?

Bear in mind: Brisbane, Melbourne and Essendon were equal second and Collingwood (minus their two tall forwards) were 11th.

Good point.

It's time for Leon Davis to go, give a kid a chance that actually has a future not this pathetic excuse for a player who obviously isnt committed to the club. Hes all flash and no heart tried to do some fancy **** snaps when all he had to do was kick it straight. Put the ball on the full a number of times. He is averaging around 8 touches and a goal a game this year which isnt good enough. He is not the only reason we lost but this isnt the first time hes performed like this - get rid off him.
