It was a night to forget for Manchester United at Old Trafford, as they finished bottom of their UEFA Champions League group after a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich - a result that also saw them miss out on qualification for the knockout stages of the Europa League. Not since 2005/2006 under Sir Alex Ferguson have Manchester United failed to secure some kind of European action after Christmas, with the exception of 2014/2015, when they missed out completely.
It's only the fourth time a Premier League team has finished bottom of their UEFA Champions League group.
Blackburn Rovers - 1995/1996
Manchester United - 2005/2006
Manchester City - 2012/2013
Manchester United - 2023/2024
Sevilla's Sergio Ramos became the leading UEFA Champions League goalscorer among defenders - with 17 goals - after he scored for the La Liga side against Lens in their final group match on Tuesday night.
He has now surpassed Roberto Carlos and Gerard Pique, who had both netted 16 goals.
