Hmmm, i think like last week if we can break even in the midfield we are a genuine show at beating the Dee's!
I feel Rocca will play out of the goal square if he does play, Tarrant will probably play a bit further out if Rocca is in!
If Taz does go tonight at the tribunal i think sit Rocca in the goalsquare and rotate the center half forwards with our resting ruckmen. ie. Cam Cloke, Fraser and Richards.
If Bucks plays - play him in the forward line, forward pocket, a player like him doesnt need much time to get back into the feel of AFL football (can also add some class to our potentially depleted forward line)
IMO - our back half seem to have the Dee's covered, we will murder them down back with Johnno, Clement and Cole providing lots of attacking flair and delivering for the hungry forwards!
Were will Rhyce Shaw play?

CHF, the demons do have alot of midfield options, but so do we. Besides our top 4 in Bucks, burns, licca and woey, we can also throw in Ben Johnson, didak, McGough, Holland and even shaw.
I think the key to your teams midfield is Jeff White. If our on ballers can read his tap outs well, then we should do well in clearances. On paper, the Pies midlfield does look stronger and harder at the contest, whereas your midfield looks a touch quicker.

Please CHF, DONT call us 'Eddiewood' - not all of us Collingwood supporters love Eddie as much as opposition supporters think we do! (I dont speak for everyone on this board mind you)
If Taz and Ant play, we are a chance, without them, we will struggle. I dont think the post WA factor should come into it at all. Melbourne would have had a decent break, and I have been very impressed with Melbourne all year (big improvers) and think the are a top 4 side.
Midfield, midfield, midfield - this is where the game will be won. ALL of our boys will need to play at their best and I think we need a good start, Im sick of having to come from behind and have a close finish. White is in such good form, I doubt Richards will keep up.
Lets hope for a good contest (and obviously a win!), I am interested to see where we are at.

Or what about...droche 2004 wrote:I think Melbourne will win.
Our midfield is defensive
They have the best Captain
Their midfield is excellent
They have the second best team after 11 rounds
They have the Best Coach
They have the Best assistant coaches
They won’t be tired
The trip to Freo would have toughened them right up.
Playing in Brisbane is a bonus and the loss they needed to have.
They will be use to playing in front of big crowds, (played Collingwood Last Year)
This year is their even year.
Anything else??????
We are on the rebound
We have some big ins
We know what it takes
Our form is improving
We know we need to win. We will be more despirite
We'll win - because we have to.
The midfield is where it will be won and lost. Richards is a young Jeff White and we will all notice the similarities.
Holland vs Yze
Licuria vs Bruce
Buckley vs Johnstone
Burns vs Green
Woewodin vs Thompson
O'Bree (if he plays) vs McDonald
Up forward:
Lokan vs Brown
Shaw vs Vardy
Tarrant (if he plays) vs Broadbridge (interesting but possible)
Rocca vs Nicholson
C.Cloke vs Lamb (see Broadbridge)
Down back:
Wakelin vs Neitz
Presti vs Ward?
Cloke loose man
Johnson vs Robertson
Lonie vs Davey
When is Darren Jolly back for the Dees?

While i'm not hopeless to Dr Alf's extent.... we have little to no chance of winning.
That said, If we to win without Taz and Rocca walking on one leg, we will make the finals.
HUGEEE test this week. GO PIES!!!

Assuming Tarrant loses appeal the following changes could be made for this week:
OUT: Tarrant, Rocca,
IN: Buckley, Prestigiacomo
Also maybe Holland in for Lokan, Swan or someone else. Holland to play on Yze as a tag.
Gees whose gonna play on the forward line? Could line something like this:
B: Cole Wakelin Prestigiacomo
HB: Clement J.Cloke Johnson
C: Woewodin Burns Lonie
HF: Didak Fraser Buckley
F: Davis C.Cloke Lokan
FL: Richards, Licuria, Lockyer
INT from: Shaw, McGough, Swan, Holland, Walker, Maxwell
Still a good team, but obviously will struggle to kick goals. We will have to slow the whole game down, hold onto the ball till someone is free, make them come at us and hope 12 goals is enough to win. Can be done!

Our midfield seems to implode and lose all confidence in the forward line without Tarrant - so if Buckley is available leave him as a permanent forward (as someone already suggested).
That will have a huge psychological effect in giving the midfield confidence in our forward line and driving the ball forward fast and direct, since they don't look up to anyone more than Buckley. Otherwise without Taz they just seem to go into their shell and stuff around the wings with stagnant shortpassing. As they say footy is 50% above the shoulders (actually I think they say 90% but that is going a bit far).
Buckley as permanent forward in these games could be the answer, and it will be a lot safer re his injury.
