I would hardly call Paul Licuria and Shane Woewodin negative players........ but you would know more about Woey then me :P Also, Nath suggested Dids on Yze, and i dont see that as a negative run with role either.

Just out of interest, who would you pit against our midfield CHF? We might have woey, bux, licca, burnsy in the middle.
I was referring to the whole thread really. there seemed to be a lot of "matchups" floating around. You are right in what you say though, It may have been in the way I was reading it that it appeared you were wanting to get your players on to ours without wanting to have your players running and letting ours get to you... if you know what I mean.

I always think that matchups in the middle will remain a fluid thing for the whole of the game. If a coach finds that a particular players is hurting them then they will make the changes to try and negate that player.

As to your players in the middle, I would think there are a number of combinations that could be used. At the start I can see Heffernan lining up on Buckley. Heff did the job well on Pavlich last week and, with all due respect to Buckley who I think is a great player, he will be lacking match fitness and will spend limited time on the ball. (I do not expect him to play, but will not be worried if he does) Thompson will stand beside Liccura at the bounces and throwins but as soon as the ball is bounced, it will be every man for themselves. Woewodin may find himself with Wheatley beside him at the centre bounce. Maybe Burns and Green will play a bit on each other.

we would also have a few other players to rotate through there as well. Read, Bruce, Armstrong, McLean, Yze may get a run in the Centre as well you might find Broadbridge getting a run on a wing for a while. A few options there.

Again, I would not be surprised if I was 100% wrong in these matchups. Midfields have a way of doing that to you. ...lol

Melbourne love the run but hate the hard yakka. There should be some tired legs in that camp which will help us no end, and if we were at full strength I'd be extremely confident of the result. However we will most likely be without one (quite possibly two) of Rocca and Tarrant with bloke returning such as Bucks, Presti, Holland and O'Bree unfit or underdone.

We will need to be at our desperate best and well on top at the stoppages. With Burns, Bucks, Lica, McGough and Woey this should be achievable. Time for Fraser to step up to the plate and provide us with a forward option. Cam Cloke will also be tested.

Can't afford to let them blow us out of the water early. If we can stick with them to 3qrt time we should be able to run over the top of them.

I think most of this match hinges on the tribunal decision tonight and the recovery of Rocca.

Should win, but if our lucks fails us again expect a miserable day.

Agreed D9 - I was going to say that if Tarrant is rubbed out tonite we will lose *and* that will be the end of our season (for about the 4th time) - but if Fraser can step into taz's forward role then there is still hope. Big game for Fraser obviously, I dno't know if they have the defenders to stop him if he is playing well.
Tarrant tonite is a tricky one, I think you could just about toss a coin. Hopefully he just gets a fine or not guilty since contact was minimal

d9, I think you will find that this season we will have a lot more hardness about us thanks to more body strength and the input of Ratten into the player group.

I have no fears of us having tired legs from last week as we will have an 8 day break and I think we are a hell of a lot fitter than last season.

They said last week we would have post Brisbane hangover. We will be fine this week with an extra day of recovery and no plane flight the day before.

Contrary to most opinions, I believe the key to victory is our defence which has held the opposition to very low scores in the last 3 matches. It seems to have developed the right balance of run, cohesion and ability to stop.

Given that the defense is working, I don't see a role for Presti in it at the moment - particularly since Melbourne hasn't got an overabundance of talls (Remember that presti was getting bags kicked on him consistently till he was injured). Wakelin on Neitz and either J.Cloke or Clement on Holland if he plays is sufficient talls for our defence.

As for midfielders, if Buckly's ready he is mandatory probably at the expense of Swan. If Holland comes in, then it will probably be at the expense of Davis. The rest of the running brigade I would prefer as is, though if O'bree comes in it would probably be at the expense of Lokan.

McGough should be kept unless he needs a rest. He is a potential matchwinner unlike any of his potential replacements (except Buckly).

The forward line is interesting. The only "certainties" at the moment are C.Cloke, J.Fraser and Didak - and these 3 could also rotate in the centre. Having seen Rocca on crutches I can't believe that he would be anywhere near fit by Monday and Tarrant -heads or tails?

Funnily enough it is in the forward line that I see a potential role for Presti if both Rocca and Tarrant are out. He is similar in height and weight to Lynch and Ghering and could play a similar role from the goal square. This would leave 3 talls as the normal forward line reducing to 2 when Fraser/Cloke relieve Richards. If a tall is not chosen to replace Tarrant and Rocca, this would leave the forward line with 1 tall when Richards is relieved.

In the absence of Rocca and Tarrant I would prefer Presti to the current alternatives of Kinnear or Walker. He would probably have more confidence from his teamates than Kinnear or Walker and if he doesn't kick many goals at least he has the defensive skills to stop the ball coming back quickly.
Beware the embrace of the collingwood python

IN: Bucks, Dutchy, Presti.
OUT: Davis, Maxwell (due to weight of ins)Rocca (if injured).

Dees are very underated. Nathan Brown in particular. Very dangerous. 37 touches against North. Jeff White must be stopped, Fraser & Richards will have their work cut out. Vardy is a big danger. He killed Freo last week and might do that to us. I still believe we are a chance. Pies by 15 points.

*More to come later*
