I mean, all the media folks I heard tipped Collingwood, but thought GWS were a real threat. (Did Nicksters want media all to tip a 10-goal Collingwood win?) Which is what I felt. And how it turned out.

We've struggled with clearances and contested ball for several months. It's tough work trying to win scoring by slingshot off half back all the time.

Yep, I was in the proceed-with-caution camp with you there.
I was hopeful, more than actually confident, leading into friday.

Anyhoo, bring on the Bears...
Yeah, and I reckon the 6-day break, etc., did end up telling.

Dunno that an 8-day vs. 7-day break will count as much. But at least they didn't belt the Blues by 10 goals and rest their stars in the 2nd half.

GWS have had ten years of concessions from the AFL as they tried to tilt the playing field in their favour to build a fair-weather fan base for the most Frankenstein team since Gold Coast. Those concessions accumulate.

I suspect GWS are the most talented team in the competition by some margin. This was a great, great win.

And neither team has made any inroads regarding supporter bases - they are still regarded as rude interlopers and always will be.

We will be paying for AFL hubris forever because the rugby states will never relent.

And the list of players who have actually jumped ship under Leon Cameron was something to behold.

We've made our fair share of 1st round extortion contributions for Adams, Treloar, and a little less for WHE and Bobby.

Carlton, on the other hand, bought GWS spuds by the bagful...

IN my view, we defeated the best team in the finals, last night, I rate them over both Blues and Lions, unlike the Lions, they can handle the MCG. too ! We really dodged a huge bullet last night , we really did, now we reload for Brisvegas.

CASUAL OBSERVATIONS:

1. Kudos Jordan DeGoey, the game of your life
2. Isaac Quaynor, welcome to A Grade status
3. Great to have you back Nick Daicos
4. Conor Idun, a genuine gun
5. Steele, clutch again when it mattered
6. Whingeing around the neck GWS & media: two words, Jack Ginnivan
7. Dan McStay: where was the free kick against Buckley and report?
8. Happy Birthday Craig, what a present
9. Jack Crisp, our best bargain recruit since Craig Davis
10. Grand Final Selection changes:

* Out McStay
* In Adams (sub if 80%)
* Ginnivan full game
* Cox and D Cameron can swap on forward line and replace McStay's two goals

Realistically, we've dodged TWO magnum 45 bullets against both Melbourne and GWS.
Just going slight off trek here, I asked Jezza [forum stats guru] via PM which team had won both their QF and PF by the closest margins, and he tabled the scores below:

^ the upside to that

We lost both finals last year by about the same margins. So we've turned that bit around.

Agree INXS88 - maybe a smaller forward set up may be better to keep McKenna and Coleman (who I rate very highly) busy
Daicos, impossible angle ... Goal!

Oh ffs we beat both Melbourne and GWS. We won. We didn’t “dodge a bullet.” That implies we shouldn’t be here, we’re pretenders (most popular commend in the game day threads). Have some damn confidence and pride in our abilities to win games instead of “oooh we’re not that good, we’re really lucky to be here blah blah.” We WON our way to a GF and we’ll win that one too. Go Pies!
