Magpies have climbed upto 11th in the ladder. We'd most probably end up 13th. It's possible to still remain at 14 or climb up to 12th at the end of the round.

Our percentage is not very good yet, and we have crossed 100 only once this season. We need to get it close to 100%.

Well, at least we came up with the four points, but again we made it a struggle when we were poised to destroy the opposition. Down early but came back strongly in the 2nd and 3rd quarters - I thought Shawy did very well when he came on, shutting down Judd for long periods just as the game looked like it might slip out of our reach - then did our jolly best to lose it before the late sealer.

As predicted by many posters in the pre-match thread, Weagles midfield were really quick and, at times, looked like they were going to dominate, particularly in the 1st quarter. Very dangerous. We did well there to keep a hold on some of them but, without Johnno, did not seem to move the ball quickly enough.

Give the defence 10/10. Fantastic performance. Cole shut Matera (1 goal) virtually right out of the game but was still able to run the ball out of defence at times, thus playing probably the best game of his career, Wakelin shut down McDougall and Clokey shut down the resting ruckman. Result - Weagles had no target to shoot at and became dependent on getting a lucky break.

Our forward line looked very dangerous until they decided to go into hibernation with 6 mins to go in the 3rd quarter. Cloke was very effective, Dids did very well again - he put his shooting boots on - Taz was always a danger, particularly leading out into space.

At times the game became a comedy of errors (on both sides). I thought both sides made so many unforced errors, it wasn't the best of spectacles! Nevertheless, we took the four points and, given our rotten start to the season, I'm happy enough with that.

Now we await the news on our injuries ahead of a very big test against Melbourne.

Four points, is four point,s and I'm very pleased with that. Who would have thought we'd win 3 in a row 3 weeks ago?

If we didn't have Burns and Tarrant we'd still be bottom. Heroic performances by these two.

Cameron Cloke is a star in the making.

Didak was patchy ... but earned his pay with a few flashes of brilliance.

Woewodin wasn't bad.

Good games from Clement and Lonie.

We were a bit lucky to win. We got the worst of the umpiring early in the game, but we can't grizzle about the run we got in the last quarter when the game was in the balance.

We'll need to improve significantly to trouble Melbourne or Sydney over the next couple of games.

Your kidding!! Judd had 11 posessions on him in the first quarter on Lokan. Shaw kept him to 16 for the rest of the match.

Bit off the mark with a couple mate....

Leon Davis once again did jackshit, will not hold his spot.

Richard Cole was very very very lucky that Matera kept dropping the ball, should have kicked 4-5 goals.

Burns should have been a 9.5, no Burns and we would have got smashed.

Lokan worth more than a 3, did his job without touching much of the ball.
Maybe. Lokan recieved a big spray from MM and was at many time quiet. You are correct on Davis & Burns. :)

I'll take the 4 points as long as we win next week in a vital clash with the Dess. They havn't beaten uys since Queens Birthday 2000 when Jeff Farmer ripped us apart.

Special mention to Cam Cloke. Many others would have gone into their shell after the week he had and well done on a good game.

The performance was pleasing but still relatively average, alot of improvement is still probably required.

If Mat Lokan is playing as a tagger he is doing an extremely poor job. He isnt really a tagger type player, you'd think he'd be more suited to a neutral wingman/HFF/FP type player and the tagging should be left to Holland, Licuria etc

Cam Cloke played a good game. However, his chasing is pretty substandard, you see Tarrant and Didak and other fowards tearing around after their opponents and Cloke just jogs which can lead to easy rebounds for the opposition. Don't get me wrong I like the guy, but chasing/foward line defensive pressure is something he really has to work on.

Rhyce Shaw is really improving, you really have to admire his guts. He's been ridiculed by everyone since the grand final but looks to be turning the corner. His kicking has been great and his pace is more than handy. I hope he keeps up the good work.

Oh to beat the Wet Toast...

The looks on the faces of the people as I walked into breakfast wearing my Pies jumper in the mining camp where I work was a thing of beauty.
Thank you Pies, I now have one years worth of ammunition.

Fantastic to see "the big Guy" , CC and Maxwell continue to improve
Rhys Shaw and Dids played their best games for the year
- and most importantly at times last night we looked like a former grand finalist
- We have the personnel - we just need some luck with injuries ( surely we've had our share ) and some consistency

Finally I can enjoy watching the footy again - GO PIES

Loved Shaws sliding dive to dispossess Judd on the wing. If anyone had said "Rhyce will quieten down Judd.. " would anyone have believed them? I wouldn't have.

Loved Cameron Clokes mark, goals, strength and flippity floppity running style when he is running to a position for the zone that at times reminds me of our #33 in 1984.

Loved Jason Cloke doing the things that put him on the map in 2002. I love his guts, his brutality.

Good Dids kicking goals bad Dids getting 8 possies instead of the 20 he had last week. Why does he slip over all the time? Mind you as i walked on the Telstra Dome surface I couldn't believe how hard it felt underfoot - like playing on a basketball court with deep-pile green carpet on top.

Loved Taz. Just beautiful.

Loved Burnsy. Just guts and vision.

Loved Lica. Run Run Tackle Run again.

Loved Maxwell. This guy can seriously play. Like a young Sexton.

Tried to love Richie, but really if Matera had marked like an AFL footballer instead of a mini leaguer... Richie must have REALLY gotten into his head about what he was going to do to him from behind.

Loved Tarkyn's precision and run, and strength in marking contests.

Loved Clemo's leadership and killing off the game (although it was frustrating to watch) in the middle of the last q.

Loved Richards. This guy is ahead of both Hille and Gardiner, and possibly White in development speed at similiar times in their careers. He keeps kicking goals ala Monkey.
Get back on top.

When Kerr started to run free I was getting flashbacks to the Carlton game with Davies.

Fir those who say I do nothing but bag Shaw; he finally showed some balls and actually put his body on the line. That's what's all about Rhyce the hard stuff.

Who needs Rocca when you have the Speedsta, go Camo. Wipe off 6 on the scoreboard I say.

Cam is spot on about Cloke. He read the ball well and was great.

Dale61 has always had raps on Maxwell. Well Dale all I can say after finally watching him for a game. He is solid, has a go and is cool under pressure. He reminds me of a bigger Shane Morwood. Dale, the kid can play. :)

Lica is on fire and I would say he is red-hot favourite for his third Copeland. (Thanks Cam)

Wakelin, he is always a second to slow sometimes and it always costs us a goal.

Woey had another solid performance. I had some Feral Collingwood supporters bag him at his every possession. When he did the hard stuff and clearances that was required I pointed that out to the dweebs. He made one error that costs us and that's all I heard about.

Solid performance and Wet Toast are the hand ball Kings. And Matera dropped more Marks than a German Bank Robber. (Heard that on the radio, funny stuff).

Big test next week, Rocca is doubtful and Malthouse says he is going to play Jason Cloke at CHF.

I thought lica, burnsy, Clemmo and Taz were our best tonight.

Woey, richards, both clokes and tarkyn were a touch below those four - still had good solid games. How much have we missed Tarkyn? We really lacked good clean disposal when he was out, watching him pass the ball is a thing of beauty. Probably second only to bux in terms of disposal.

Rhyce shaw showed more signs of improvement. Dids did some really brilliant things for e.g. the goal he kicked from 50 and when he beat 2 opponents on the wing after contesting a mark, but keeping his footing and then a precision pass to burnsy in the middle which led to a goal. Nick Maxwell really does look like he can play.

I thought Josh was a little quiet today, needs to work on his contested marks to be as dangerous and Rocca and Taz up forward. I thought Stretch outperformed him today. If we lose Pebs for the next game, Josh needs to lift a bit.

Ritchie Cole, i thought was very lucky that Matera had an absolute shocker, else he may have had 4-5goals kicked on him. But having said that, he did beat Matera on numerous occasions and ran off him as much as he could. So good effort, albeit a little lucky.

Some of the others not mentioned were a little quiet but i dont see too many changes for the melbourne game.

We do need to work on our start and finishes to games. I think the fact that we only had 2 fit men on the bench contributed to last nights fade out. Add to that, dids copped a knock as well and didnt do that much running in the last quarter. Of course, the most obvious observation is that we need to work on our performance in RED TIME!!!! MM was very upset with that fact that we let a few easy goals through in the 3rd quarter, as was many of us. If McDougall didnt hit the post at the end there.... may have been a different story.

Very pleased about the win, our defense has been magnificent. If we can play the way we do in the the 2-3rd quarters in the opening and last quarter, then we will start kicking the same amount of goals as we did last year. I definitely think we need to kick more then 15 to beat the demons.

Yes, MM said in this mornings paper that he will play J.Cloke at CHF in Rocca's absence - sent a chill down my spine when I read that.......BUT he was great last night, did all the right defensive things (although in the first quarter I was a little worried :? )

Cant understand why they dont go long and down the middle, everyone around us was just screaming at them to move the ball quickly (when they actually did we actually looked dangerous). Chipping out to the flanks and then going backwards is just ugly stuff. Dont think that style of play will beat the Dees Im afraid.....

Hell a win is a win, I was pleased to see the boys fight back in the 2nd quarter and kick ahead in the 3rd Q.......but was disappointed they let the Eagles back in at all......why cant we bury sides? From memory, the Eagles scored a few 'red time' goals as well, lucky for us McDougall hit the post at 3/4 time siren.....

Anyway great stuff from Burns ( what a champ :D ), Taz, Cam Cloke (love his spunk :D !) Shawry, Coley, Wowy, Lica. And Im rapt because I picked the Pies to win by 18pts! :D
