Very stressed when Johnno and Anthony went down. Hopefully not for long for both of them.
Well done to the young 'uns tonight. Must have been S1's best game for us.

I thought every player played a part in that win - most only half a game of good footy and half a game of solid footy, but it was serviceable.

They looked a bit tired in the midfield in the second half, but came through in the end. Four talls in the forward line looked ominous, when Rocca get's back, Cam Cloke and Rocca will be dangerous duel CHF's.

Big congrats to Cam Cloke, really stepped up at CHF when Rocca went off, took some nice grabs and presented time after time after time. And the other young guys, Richards, Didak, Cole, Shaw all played good footy in parts, Overall happy with that win, another step in the right direction!

GO PIES THREE IN A ROW!!

Match Review:

In a see-sawing contest all neight, Collingwood pulled away in the 3rd quarter to complete a comfortable victory over the West Coast Eagles by 18 points. Although the Eagles got with in 12 points midway through the last term, the Pioes finished off the macth with a goal to Tarrant to run out 3 goal winners.

In the 1st quarter, West Coast got off to a flyer. After Scott Burns scored the 1st goal from the 50 metre line early on, the Eagles banged on 5 goals including rippers to Chick and Kerr. But Collingwood steadied late with goals to Richards and Tarrant keeping the Pies in touch.

The Magpies turned it on in the second quarter with a scintilating 5 goals to 1. Alan Didak starred with 2 while Tarrant and Burns continued to work hard around the ground with Buirns scoring a ripper snap over his shoulder on the run. Rhyce Shaw also stood out for his attack on the ball and the player. He was soon moved on to Eagles star Chris Judd and kept the turbo charged Eagle quiet. Towards the end of the quarter, big Anthony Rocca rolled his ankle badley and causing him to watch from the pine for the rest of the evening.

In the 3rd quarter, the Pies blased the West Coast out of the water with a 4 goal quarter. Didak set the early tone scoring a great goal from 50 meters out and 2 minutes later youngster Cameron Cloke, a subject of much disscussion for the duration of the week, scored a goal after a terrific one handed mark at the back of the pack. The goal was one of Cam's 2 goals for the evening in his best performance yet. Jason Cloke, Burns and Tarkyn Lockyer continued to run hard but the player whos tood out was Paul Licuria. 'Licca' ran his heart out all night in a best on ground display. Late in the quarter, Michael Braun and Daniel Kerr goaled to give the Eagles a sniff off victory.

In the last term, West Coast hit the Magpies with everything and at one stage trailed by 2 goals and looked to be gaining momentum. But the Pies stood firm to hold on to a grinding 18 point win. Acting captain James Clement held the defence together in the despirite last quarter while Richard Coile held the ever dangerous Phil Matera goaless in a talented evening.

Player Review:

Leon Davis: 4.5/10 - Looked good at time but lost at others. Did enough to hold his spot.

Shane Woewodin: 6.5/10 - Did a solid job again and continues to improve. Good match.

Ryan Lonie: 5/10 - The future is brightning for Lonie after a clouded beginning to the season. Is working back into form.

Alan Didak: 7/10 - Continued last weeks good form. Kick 3 goals in a good nights work.

James Clement: 7.5/10 - The general. Brilliant andWest Coast couldn't find a way around him.

Richard Cole: 8/10 - Held Matera goaless. Brilliant run gives him one of the best performances for the season. Well done.

Shane Wakelin: 5/10 - Quiet but did his job effectivly once more.

Scott Burns: 8/10 - Spark, guts, determination, skill, brute force. All thoughs words and more could be used to describe his match. Turned the game.

Paul Licuria: 8.5/10 - Just nudges out Burns for BOG. Kept on running and sets such a high standard for the rest of the side.

Chris Tarrant: 7.5/10 - 4 gopals in a very good performance. Running into some really dangerous form.

Guy Richards: 5.5/10 - Battled on all night against the bigger and stronger Cox. Getting better each week.

Rhyce Shaw: 6.5/10 - Best game for the season. Tagged Judd very well all evening.

Antony Rocca: 3/10 - Ok until injured in the 2nd quarter.

Tarkyn Lockyer: 6/10 - Good match. Will be better for the run and his shaw hands were a feature.

Josh Fraser: 5/10 - Tried hard but couldn't get into the game.

Ben Johnson: 2/10 - Injured early and didn't return.

Mark McGough: 4/10 - Good early but faded after 1/4 time.

Matthew Lokan: 3/10 - Quiet night.

Cameon Cloke: 6/10 - Best game so far. Good hands and a willingness for the contest. 2 goals in a performance that should earn him a Rising Star nomination.

Jason Cloke: 7/10 - Back in form. Great match all night across half back and showed leadership.

Dane Swan: 3/10 - Not sigted often.

Nick Maxwell: 5/10 - Continues his rise in stature.

With 10 days rest before Melbourne comes, the Pies will be ready to roll the Dees.

Better win than it looked considering Rocca and Johno off early, Dids off well before the end and Burns and another sore (MM mentioned this after game).

Injuries: Didak-blow to upper quad/thigh, won't miss next week
Johno-corky to thigh, won't miss next week
Rocca-sprained/rolled ankle, no ligament damage or breaks, grade 1 probably. May only miss Melb game.

We did enough to win and i'm happy, but this game plan will not win us flag.

I have to agree with MMF for once though...

Our style of footy will get us nowhere in the finals. Chip, chip, chip, chip, chip all around the wings and pockets. What happened to going down the guts? Clement was the only player who seemed to know that the quickest route to the goals was through the centre!

On a semi-related issue, we are easily the laziest team when it comes to providing leads around the ground to players with the ball. The only players who make the effort to lead towards the player with the ball are Rocca, Tarrant and sometimes Cam and Didak. These forwards should not be forced to lead 100 metres up the ground just to provide an option?!

Anyway, on to next week!! I'll be lining up at the G from about 11 in the morning :) GO PIES!!

1.Clement
2.Licuria
3.Burns
4.Lockyer
5.Tarrant

Special mentions- Cam Cloke, 2 great one handers and kicks nothing like Jason. Guy Richards faded but once again
was good. Coley was good (Matera had a shocker). MCG was sore so can be excused.

1. Licac cause he went all day
2. Clement for a comanding second half
3. Burns for getting us going
4. Tarrant - what a champion
5. Didak - one quarter of brilliance, we missed him when he went off

special mention - C Cloke aswell, great game, really took the challenge, and leon Davis, a bit on and off but presented continually, I think he gets a bit intimidated by the big boys but when Rocca and Davis went off, he stood up and led quite well I Thought. Enough to hold his spot, for sure.

Sherrife - the good news about our game plan is there is time to change in time for the finals. Once some confidence in our running game returns we will start playing the long kicking game. The return of Buckley will most definitely provide the impetus for this with his fantastic delivery into the forward line. Buckley leads the way and others hopefully follow his example. Should be doing it be now but sometimes younger players lose their way without a player of Buckleys calibre giving guidance.
Chuffed to have seen 3 flag wins in my lifetime but still greedy for more.

Bit off the mark with a couple mate....

Leon Davis once again did jackshit, will not hold his spot.

Richard Cole was very very very lucky that Matera kept dropping the ball, should have kicked 4-5 goals.

Burns should have been a 9.5, no Burns and we would have got smashed.

Lokan worth more than a 3, did his job without touching much of the ball.

Good point. What really frustrated me was that they went to the flanks SOOOO often that i thought it must have been the team plan, not buckling under pressure. Even our forwards seemed to have lost the ability to lead straight up the ground, slightly away from the player with the ball.

I was concerned that it might have been a coaching problem, but i guess you could be right too. We shall see in the coming weeks anyway.

Ahhhh nothing beats the winning feeling, no matter how we do it!! 8)
