There is unfinished business with the WEEgles. The Wiz Cup drubbing, the game that should have been won 2003, Bluey & Mick. If Sampi is not a starter we have one less problem but it is a big one Matera & Judd. Matera is not I repeat not allowed to be left on his own within a 50m arc of the goals. He must be made accountable. We constantly let him loose to get easy balls and goals. Judd is another matter the guy is big, skillful and quick in other words a great footballer. Cousins is one that can get under your guard too but has been playing as a midfield link and we have picked up in the midfield again thanks to Licca, Woey, McG and now Burns. We can now match them there.

They have a suspect backline and that is where we can punish them. We need to kick a bag and I have a feeling that Taz will be able to get a better run on Friday without wearing three blokes on his back.

Matera will be the tough match up Cole/Lokan duo would be able to match in the pace/tackle areas - He should not be left alone FULL STOP.

GO PIES 3 in a row .... let's crack the ton this week.
Let all your troubles be forgot for we are Collingwood. We'll fight it out until the end we're Collingwood. So help me Jock.
Two pies and two beers thanks!!

I believe like most people the game will be won or lost in the midfield.

IMO if we have a spare man in defence such as cloke (or who ever it may be) This should free up a defender to run at the weagles midfielders before they get to the 50m line. Wet Toast midfilders are very good at kicking goals on the run from 50 and too often our defenders are too concerned with manning up on there oponent and these midfielders run into the 50 with out too much pressure. The spare man he needs to be able to run at the midfielders if they get a run on.

If we play smart i see us winning by a comfortable 31points :)

Both teams played well and won last week. Barring injury or Buckly coming in, I would expect both teams to be unchanged. From the websites, the following is the physical data on the players (height/weight).

MAGPIES

Scott Burns 181 85
James Clement 190 95
Cameron Cloke 195 95
Jason Cloke 189 95
Richard Cole 182 86
Leon Davis 178 82
Alan Didak 182 84
Josh Fraser 202 97
Ben Johnson 183 82
Paul Licuria 179 86
Tarkyn Lockyer 178 79
Matthew Lokan 185 90
Ryan Lonie 190 90
Nick Maxwell 190 85
Mark McGough 188 88
Guy Richards 200 93
Anthony Rocca 195 104
Rhyce Shaw 180 82
Dane Swan 183 83
Chris Tarrant 193 94
Shane Wakelin 191 94
Shane Woewodin 185 83

WEST COAST

Michael Braun 175 73
Sam Butler 187 77
Callum Chambers 184 77
Daniel Chick 185 88
Ben Cousins 179 79
Dean Cox 204 104
Andrew Embley 190 88
Chad Fletcher 179 79
Travis Gaspar 197 91
Darren Glass 192 97
Brett Jones 189 89
Chris Judd 189 82
Daniel Kerr 178 78
Quinten Lynch 194 104
Phillip Matera 171 76
Andrew McDougall 197 93
Mark Nicoski 187 79
Ashley Sampi 177 83
Mark Seaby 200 95
Brent Staker 196 89
Beau Waters 187 77
David Wirrpunda 173 84

Magpie average height 187.23 cm average weight 88.73 kg, number of players 189 cm or taller 10.

W. Coast average height 186.82 cm average weight 85.55 kg, number of players 189 cm or taller 10.

From this it would seem that the number of talls is roughly equal as is the average height. The quality of the talls is another matter altogether and here the Magpies would seem to have a definite advantage.

Interestingly, on average, the Magpies are almost 3kg per player heavier. This should translate directly to a strength advanvantage. On the small Telstra oval this should be more important than their marginal advantage in leg speed. It should allow us to outbustle them in the centre and at the stopages. If we we can capitalize on these advantages we should win well.
Beware the embrace of the collingwood python

The coaching staff must be pretty pleased with the side if there is no change. It would have been harsh on Maxwell to drop him after only 20 odd minutes.

It's interesting that the emergencies are Mullins, Shackelton and Walker - three of our younger up-and-comers - obviously all on the verge of selection to the Seniors. That is just as good news as the return of the senior players. Although we have a very young and inexperienced list, MM is living up to his pre-season statement that he wanted to see how many could step up. Some of those who stepped up a bit earlier are already playing in their best form. A bit more patience (and yes, I know I've had a bit to say on that thread, too!) and we'll have tremendous competition for places.

I was going to post a prediction of an unchanged side but my calls the last two weeks have been close but no cigar stuff, so refrained, and look what happens? An unchanged side!

Looking forward to tomorrow night already.

I still think it will be close and still saying 20 points.

Neither will be on the bench at the start - but most of the others wont be where they're selected either!!

Look at this (selected) forward line, it's absolutely awasome, if maybe a little tall:

HF: Davis, Rocca, Fraser
F: Didak, Tarrant, Swan

Expect practically (probably) Fraser and Tarrant in the goal square alternating leading, Didak and Swan out a little further and Rocca knocking things around as usual, that is one nasty forward line.

Match ups when it looks like that are going to be tricky, I doubt WC selected backline is as it will be, ie. Embly, but say Wirra on Didak, Glass and Lynch on Tarrant and Rocca, Seaby will probably have to play on Fraser when he and Richards are on the gorund, All three of those talls are going to strugle against the pies talls, ahh, if we win the midfield could be a demolision!!

West Cost are $3.20 in today's paper. I hate it when we are short odd's, we tend to lose.

I've left it until today to post because WCE make me feel ill every time we play them. Today at work will be a shocker....sweaty palms. If we only win one more game please let it be this week - other WA magpies understand.

I think we'll win but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous.
My oxygen is Collingwood. Without it I die.

All WA Magpies join the Western Magpies now:

(At least go and sign the guestbook).
