Was in my local TAB least night and a bloke walked in and had $3,000 on the Pies to win the flag @ $2.80.
My mate Dave (TAB owner) told me the same bloke put $2,000 on them the day before too.

What is Dave's business relationship with TAB like?

Is it like McDonald's franchise owners' relationship with McDonalds? (Seems the franchise owners struggle to make money while McDonalds continues to earn huge profits. And McDonalds controls most aspects of what the franchises can do.)

Not sure. Never asked him. He owned a printing business prior to getting in to TAB's (he owned another store before this one).
It must be okay, he just bought his partner out... old Ian McCulloch, ex Fitzroy and East Perth player, '66 - '75.

Safer than buying a horse?

May 17, 2023

"Australia’s largest corporate bookmaker, Sportsbet, has been fined more than $13,000 over its failure to intervene when a new customer went on a 24-hour betting spree in 2019.
...

The commission found Sportsbet failed to intervene until the customer reached the group’s “red flag” threshold of depositing more than $20,000 in a single month, a milestone he reached the week he opened the account.
...

The commission found that although Sportsbet did eventually take the correct action, it failed to escalate the consumer behaviour quickly enough, resulting in thousands of dollars in losses for the customer.
...

Sportsbet makes up about 50 per cent of the Australian betting market. Flutter- the wagering giant which owns Sportsbet- reported an annual profit in 2022 of $1.5 billion."

So the lesson I learn from that is:

Don't deposit over $20k in a month!

Wonder what else raises flags...

Darwin Cup today and I like old Dicky Leech's horse, Write Your Name at $8.

He has a few others throughout the day, his runner in the 1st, Prince Of Mercia should be too good for the others and get you off to a winning start to the day.

$2.10 the place for 2nd, no damage done. Cup is the last race so I'll do some weeding around the house until then. I must have a billion weeds to pull... yay.

Tightened up to 5/1 before they jumped. Hope it was Nicksters jumping on board!!??

Cleaned up very, very nicely today. The quaddie capping a wonderful day.

Old Dick gets 3 winners & a 2nd from 5 runners and goes home very heavy in the pockets. Not only trains the 3 winners, but part owns them all too. Over $200k just in prize money... the old fox would have probably won that on the punt as well.

When Kelly won the GF package at Crown a couple of weeks ago, I went straight to the TAB and backed it to be a Collingwood v Brisbane GF @ $5.50.
I've also had a small wager on it being a Collingwood v Carlton GF @ $16.

Put some Norm Smith bets on too;
JDG @ $15
Josh @ $34
Steele @ $101
Cox @ $101
Bruz @ $251

Nick is favourite @ $7

I like one at odds today at Flemington.

Race 8 #14 - Life Lessons @ 25/1.

The lightly raced 5yo looks well placed in this.

The toppy, Amelia's Jewel (my pick for the Cox Plate) is a very good horse, but, 1st up, from the outside gate with 58.5kg isn't value at the $1.80 for mine. I wouldn't be surprised if she does win, but I'd rather take the 14 at juicy E/W odds.

First 4 - 1, 2, 4, 6, 7 & 14 all ways.
