From his very first game, I called him 'the iceman' because he was so cool and calm under pressure. Being so good, for so long, I think it's safe to declare him Collingwood's greatest player - of the modern (since the 80s) era. It's impossible to compare players from completely different eras, when the game was semi-professional, when there was no interchange bench, when zone defences were non existent etc. Therefore, let's not rate him against the Coventry's, Pannam's, Roses and others.
In my lifetime I expect only Nick Daicos to surpass Pendles as our greatest modern player!

I love Pendles and have since the "Hand of god" moment early in his career.

But Peter was his superior - not by much - but superior nonetheless.
Anyway well done Pendles a class champion player and person.

On his day, Peter Daicos was certainly a better player, but when you factor in Pendles' longevity and incredible consistent performance levels, I rate Pendles as being the best....only slightly above Bux, due to his longer career.jonmac1954 wrote:Hard to block out Peter as a contemporary and Peter WAS a true great.RudeBoy wrote:From his very first game, I called him 'the iceman' because he was so cool and calm under pressure. Fwiw, Johnny Greening is still the greatest player I've ever seen, but as we know his career was cruelly cut short, just as it was taking off.

You can't downgrade a player's career because of injuries - it's as much luck or circumstance as anything else.RudeBoy wrote:On his day, Peter Daicos was certainly a better player, but when you factor in Pendles' longevity and incredible consistent performance levels, I rate Pendles as being the best....only slightly above Bux, due to his longer career.jonmac1954 wrote:Hard to block out Peter as a contemporary and Peter WAS a true great.RudeBoy wrote:From his very first game, I called him 'the iceman' because he was so cool and calm under pressure. I'm talking about how a player affects a game and his opponents, about how they are so good they actually change the way the game is played.
Every single deliberate dribble / bouncing goal is DIRECTLY attributable to Peter Daicos.
As for Greening I have no argument with that point the lad had no perceivable ceiling in his far too short career and quite literally tore teams apart.

The end comes quickly for all players, but not sure if its curtains just yet...
Need to have him and Sidey well rested for the finals. That being said, we may end up playing 3 games in 5 weeks if all goes well, which would be rest enough

hmmm...he was a huge part of the centre square midfield that got slaughtered today. It was the worst game from a midfield I have ever seen. No team in AFL has ever been so comprehensively smashed in the middle.Quincy wrote:Is still our best player judging by our votes today.
I had no one winning their position today. The votes are only for the 5 best Collingwood players. If you look at the game, Hawthorn would have had the best 20 players on the field
