yeah but yeah but...
His supporters will still support him when he's behind bars:.
'What if we don't play ball?' Why Trump indictment could be so damaging"
Donald Trump's indictment on federal charges has been unsealed, and the full scope of the case against the former president for mishandling classified documents is coming into view.
Mr Trump has been charged with 37 counts of unauthorised possession of classified material, obstruction of justice, concealing documents and making false statements to law enforcement.
Each of those counts contains penalties that include substantial fines and the possibility of years in prison.
While leading Republicans dismiss it as a political prosecution, some legal experts insist the indictment sets out a strong case.
"It's a slam dunk," Diana Florence, a former prosecutor in the Manhattan District Attorney's Office, told the BBC.
"Here's why: It's got everything. It's got videos. It's got recorded conversations. It's got lower level employees who are testifying."
Here are some of the key revelations, and why they could be damaging.
1. Missing documents included nuclear secrets;
2. Trump showed US military plans to visitors;
3. Trump asked his lawyer: 'What if we don't play ball with them?'

I keep wondering whether they're finally going to be able to lay a glove on him. This is certainly a more serious case (in legal terms, if not actual things like ethics and real-world harm) than the E Jean Carroll defamation proceedings, but it still seems to me an open question whether a former president actually can be held to the standards of conduct that everyone else has to adhere to, or whether it's teflon all the way down.
Even a conviction and jail time would leave the question of whether he can run again open; I assume he would still need to be impeached as a result, and I still can't quite see that happening, given that most Republican senators wouldn't want to touch it with a barge pole. But I remain sceptical that this is even going to get that far.

I said a couple of months ago when he was indicted for paying hush money to Stormy Daniels that this would just be the tip of the iceberg and that more serious indictments would soon follow,and that’s exactly what has happened.There are still more serious indictments coming,like his interference in the Georgia election results,and his role in the January 6th insurrection.So a lot lot more pain for the Donald and his cult followers,
Unfortunately,this is what happens when someone thinks they’re above the law and is enabled by sycophants and cultists who worship at the feet of their dear leader and are willing to accept any kind of behaviour by them.But it seems that his chickens are finally coming home to roost,and he is finally going to be held to account for his actions.That can only be a good thing for the country and for people who genuinely believe in the rule of law.

And the beat goes on:
How the legal proceedings are likely to occur ( the next steps)
The best result for decency would be for this to be completed next year that is before the 2024 federal election.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics ... documents/
Of course there are other legal proceedings to occur / be completed and the call by Donny to find the extra votes in Georgia is another nail in this slowly built coffin.

Another day, another Trump indictment:

This one, you would think, could lead to serious (and well-deserved) prison time:

This one, you would think, could lead to serious (and well-deserved) prison time:
Former President Donald J. Trump was indicted on Tuesday in connection with his widespread efforts to overturn the 2020 election following a sprawling federal investigation into his attempts to cling to power after losing the presidency.
The indictment, filed by the special counsel Jack Smith in Federal District Court in Washington, accuses Mr. Trump of three conspiracies: one to defraud the United States; a second to obstruct an official government proceeding, the certification of the Electoral College vote; and a third to deprive people of a civil right, the right to have their votes counted. Mr. Trump was also charged with a fourth count of obstructing or attempting to obstruct an official proceeding.

This is an interesting Opinion article, comparing Trump and "trumpism" with Australian politics.
https://www.theage.com.au/politics/fede ... 5dtc5.html
A lot of it seems pretty spot on and goes a way to explaining why Trump can be besieged from all directions yet still be frontrunner for the Republican nomination with daylight second, something that seems incomprehensible to everyone NOT in the USA.
