Reminder, this is on live channel 7 free to air and in HD.

McStay not playing, despite being selected. Still full of Collingwood listed players though.
We’ve had a lot of the ball but sloppy in front of goals. Krueger and Johnson missing easy goals. McInnes been lively and he kicks our first goal. Then Richards runs into our second. McInness with his second on the run from the boundary and he looks on today.
The usual suspects with a lot of the footy so far. Bianco, Macrae and Allen all busy, with the Pies owning the territory battle. Ginnivan seems further up the ground and although involved, it’s all been inside work.

We would have won the game against Dees if McInness did what he is doing now.

It’s games like this where you see the merit of first and second division leagues. Frankston simply outclassed against a team who have nearly all played AFL footy over the last year or two. Our defenders haven’t needed to do much so all the big numbers are coming from our midfield. Krueger and Johnson both been disappointing in terms of holding their marks and converting. Macrae has been the stand out mid, Carmichael been busy in the second quarter and McInnes has kicked them from all angles in the first half.

Frankston threw the magnets around and it’s been easily their best quarter.
They’ve won clearances easily, so our defenders have come into play.
Bianco, Jetta and Ruscoe all busy, while Carmichael, McInnes, Richards and Steene all kicked third quarter goals to add to the Pies tally.
Steenes had a good patch and shown some serious tricks. He certainly looks worth persevering with for a couple more years till he fills out.
Richards has shown a bit too. Quick, neat user and covers the ground well.

Just on three quarter time and Krueger flies for a mark, hits the ground very heavily and looks concussed as a consequence. He’s leaving the ground very very slowly.

Pies 16 10. 106 to Frankston 3 5 23.
AFL listed goal kickers. McInnes 5 Carmichael 3, Richards 2, Johnson 1, Steene 1, Krueger 1
AFL listed ball winners. Macrae 20 Carmichael 19 Bianco 16 Allen 15

Just like that McInnes starts the last with his sixth goal for the game.
He’s seriously kicked them from everywhere.
Carmichael looks super fit. He’s trimmed down a lot but it hasn’t quite translated to next level performances just yet.
Biancos second half has been excellent on the back of Frankston getting more of the footy. His ball use at this level is elite.
Draper showing a bit with a lot of the footy in the last quarter.
AFL listed Wilson hits the scoreboard after a lovely Ginnivan pass and with only a few minutes to go, any sting left has long gone from this game.

Final scores - Pies 18 17 125 to Frankston 4 6 30

AFL listed goal kickers. McInnes 6, Carmichael 3 Johnson 1, Richards 2, Wilson 1, Steene 1 Krueger 1, Macrae 1
AFL listed top possession winners Macrae 26, Bianco 23, Draper 22, Carmichael 20, Ruscoe 20, Allen 20

No goals and less than 20 touches for Ginnivan? Does not bode well......

He started as a high half forward and then they brought him up to the stoppages as an extra. He tried hard but it’s not his go. They aren’t trying to make him a midfielder, so it’s either to improve his fitness or to embrace the defensive side of the game. I’d suggest he’s closer to a game in the seniors than Johnson, who against sub standard opposition still insisted on showing what a one trick pony he really is. At one stage Johnson won the ball on the wing on the run, then showed it to the Frankston bench on the way past. Problem was he got run down within 10 more metres of his showboating and lost the ball.
Given McInnes effort today and McStay to come back, I’d be surprised if we see Johnson again this season.

Big call but you could be right. However I fear that if that was the case, we wouldn’t see him at the club next year. He may go to a club that will be prepared to play him at senior level. It is a risk but so be it.

With Cox and Mihocek playing well together, I prefer McInness who is not as good a mark as Johnson but is better with the ball on the ground. Is is going to be interesting to see what they do with mcstay when he returns.
