W.Coast is a side that has a really good record against us. 18 wins 9 losses and 1 draw. Why are they able to beat us so often? I believe it's leg speed, they are far quicker side than us and have proven that over the last couple of years. What do other people think? How are we going to beat them Friday night?

There are three things in our favour against wet toast......1 we are at home and they are no good on the road.
2 they dont play too well at the telstra dome.
3. we are on the way up the ladder....whats their excuse.
We will win by 20 points as longas we get a goos start,and be at least 20 in front at 1/4 time

We should win this game comfortably, eagles are shocking outside of perth and they have no gardiner and with our ruck stocks looking good we should win the ruck. Lokan should get the job on cousins and I think ben johnson should be given a go on judd.

Would Lokan be the better option on Judd,grims? He has the height and pace to go with Judd and based on his performance on Harvey he has the mindset to stay with the task. This may be the first time in a few years that we go into a game against the toast with a possible ruck dominance. It changes the whole dynamic when you start looking at match-ups.

WCE are always a danger as they lift against Collingwood. Maybe the MM factor is like a red rag to a bull??

They have beaten the Dogs at Colonial this year and were unlucky against Essendon both in high scoring contests. The Essendon game was a good effort as Essendon dont lose too often to interstate teams in Melbourne (except Port). The game againstthe Saints they were blown away but so have many teams this year.

The midfield match ups will be the key as this is the main strength of the Eagles along with their dangerous goal sneaks in Matera and Sampi. I agree with Lokan on Judd as he has the pace to match Judd and has done the job on McLeod before. Licca if he gets suspended will be a blow as he has done well in the past two weeks.

If we under estimate WCE we will come off second best.

West Coast don't play well on the road or at Telstra Dome? Hmm, they have beaten us there the last two years running.

However, this year, they are without Gardiner, who seems to be a critical part of their side, and they didn't do too well late last year after he was injured. However, Seaby broke even with Stafford in the ruck last weekend, so it may not be as big as loss as it first looks.

Also, they have one of the best midfield combinations in the league - Judd, Cousins, Embley and Kerr, all of whom racked up 20+ possessions against Richmond on the weekend - and a pretty reasonable forward line - Matera 6 goals, Chambers 3 goals.

And their defence kept Richmond to 9 goals. A pretty miserly performance.

Still, this is a winnable game. WC were very good early on - some high scoring games - but lost form for a while and they don't seem to be travelling too well this year, being 3-2 at Subiaco and 1-4 in Melbourne (1-2 at Telstra Dome). Since round 3, they have struggled to score. Nevertheless, we wouldn't want to approach this in any way except seriously committed. Any laxness on our part will be punished.

The key will be to shut down their midfield whilst winning loads of clearances ourselves and that will be difficult. After seeing Cam Cloke's performance in the ruck in the 3rd quarter on Saturday, I see an opportunity to run Seaby off his feet rotating Richards, Fraser and Cloke. If they can give our guys first use of the ball, we're well on the way. The blueprint will be our game against North where we shut down their midfield but won heaps of the ball ourselves.

We cannot afford to load up on big guys in the backline, since their forwards are not overly tall (so suspect Presti will spend another week at Willi). Shut down Matera, end of Weagles. However, Matera is quick and a difficult matchup. I suspect a number of guys will get the job on him ie it will be rotated around, but the focus will be on cutting out the supply, rather than simply closing down Matera. I'd expect to see a lot of rebounding and if that's the case, we need to move the ball upfield quickly.

I'd like to see our forward setup much as it was against North and trust that Dids uses his performance as a springboard for another one. The Weagles held Richardson and Ottens fairly comfortably to 4 goals, but I think this was more a factor of rotten midfield delivery, so we need to focus on moving the ball quickly from the centre to our three talls to take advantage of their height.

Don't get too over confident guys. We can win, and we MUST, but don't just think this is going to be a walk in the park. If we don't take them seriously, we won't win.

I'm not as confident as i would like to be. I sat through the game last year when they had the 6 goal first qtr and it wasn't good. Yes, i know the Eagles are crap away from Subi, but our record isn't great against them. We should not underestimate the Eagles because we will lose. Having said all that, they are without Gardiner, Cox wont be able to handle Josh, Stretch and Cam by himself, and their backline will fold under pressure without Jacko. Will be a close game for 3 qtrs untill we overrun them in the final qtr...

The last two years were played at the G, with one win each as I recall.

In any event our biggest problem against the weagles is our starts. We invariably concede a big lead against them and run ourselves into the ground catching up. If we can at least break even with them in the first quarter I think we can win comfortably. The biggest worry in my mind is that despite winning the last two games the first quarter of each has been our worst.

Last year was at the Dome wasn't it? They jumped us at the start, and we pegged them back, before they kicked a couple.

Indeed it was. I was put up the wrong end by the ill-informed chick at the gate and henceforth sat in level 2 with the eagle fans on the comfy seats and watched the ball soar over our head time and time again. I had had a gutful by quarter time, although sitting where the eagles were kicking meant that i saw an awful lot of the play. We clawed back and then they finished us off, kicking the last 5 goals.

It was one of the few wet games at the Dome and the Eagles skidded and slipped the ball forward. It should suit us more at the Dome, being in close fighting - but it is also quite easy to score in a hurry - something the Toasties do very well.

I'll be tipping the Pies only because the Smeagols have been woeful on the road since Gardiner went down.
