Bulls on parade

Post by LaurieHolden »

Jordy looks to be in as good a nick as he's been in since arriving at the at the 'whatever we're calling it now centre'.
The thing that gets the bunghole fizzing in anticipation before the real stuff begins in Round 1, is early the signs of a modern day renaissance between ruck-rover and rover set to evolve between Mitchell and JDG.

Mitchell's ability is as an accumulator of the ball, and what makes him dangerous in tight and congested scenarios is his sweeping handballs to team mates in general play, allowing them to get into space.
This is where I see Jordy at his most dangerous. Get him into space to let the reins go. Jordy in full flight is good for football, and even better for our flag aspirations.
That was laid bare during the Hawks practice match, when these two started to combine.
As engine room players, when not in possession they are just as impactful when they hunt players and tackle, and this aggression at the contest is where I see the tandem will be at their most damaging in 2023.

Perhaps Mitchell with become Jordys sherpa, and allow him to finally reach the summit of his abilities. The recruiting of Mitchell might yet prove to be a list management master-stroke.

Jordan Degoey interview

Post by stui magpie »

Jody opens up with Glenn MacFarlane about NY, Bali, his ADHD and why he stayed at Collingwood. Very good read.

Huge article Fox Sports:

A fascinating read for sure. Thanks Stui. I thought the most telling thing he said was
" I didn’t truly understand myself"
. Some of us never do :wink:, but if we are fortunate enough to get to the bottom of why we behave as we do, it can be a real blessing and a relief.
the diagnosis gave him greater clarity around his behaviours as well as a guide to the processes he could put into place to ensure he doesn’t make the same mistakes again.

Thank goodness the club has the services of Jacqui Louder. This diagnosis could well be positively life-changing for Jordy, both for his football career and post footy.

Here's to Jordy having a brilliant season, not only for the team's sake, but for his own.

New year, new De Goey

Post by LaurieHolden »

THE COLLINGWOOD Football Club on a Saturday night might not be the sort of club some would expect to see Jordan De Goey at that time of the week, but it has become part of his routine this year.

How well is he going!
What a journey to date and he looks to be in career best form as a true midfielder, not the midfield / forward hybrid role he was playing earlier.

Flys presser summed it up well, he's really matured as a footballer.
Can't wait to see him up against the Demons on Kings Birthday Monday

Collingwood star Jordan de Goey admits his “perception hasn’t been great” but remains committed to the Magpies and playing the best football he can.

AFL STAR URGED TO BOX

Still on Jenkins, and the fighter says Collingwood superstar Jordan De Goey would make an immediate impact if he ever wanted to have a crossover boxing fight.

I have been a harsh critic but he is making efforts to turn not only his footy but his life around so I'll be as fulsome in my praise as I have been in my criticism.

Well done Jordy on stepping up and starting to address those (well founded) perceptions.

It takes courage to step up and say 'I am the captain of my ship and if I ran aground it all comes back to me'.

Keep it going . . . ever upward and onward.

Plays his 150th against Fremantle next week.

As stated above, he's having by far his best season and you could see him getting back into it nicely against the dogs.

This season, he's averaging just under 25 possessions a game against a career average of 18.

Looking forward to being at the G and watching hime tear Fremantle apart.
Don't count the days, make the days count.

Good luck to Jordy ahead of his 150th, it's been quite the ride!

To date it's been 149 games ;
10 finals ;
82 wins-2 draws-65 losses at a w/l ratio of 55.70% ;
Averages 18.27 possessions per game. As Skids pointed out, in 2023 he's averaging 24.75 per game;
Contested possessions he's sitting at 138, set to smash his 2022 best of 191.
Just read he had 78 tackles in 16 games in his debut season. That's Rupert 'the wombat' Wills pace!

Go well son, smash 'em!

Yes, I am very, very happy that he will be playing his 150th in black and white.
At 27 years of age, he is now reaching the peak of his powers, so he will be in black and white for several more years, and I don't think we have seen just quite yet what he is fully capable of. Well done JDG. I hope your 150th is truly remarkable.
