AFL wants power to force player trades
Well.
“The AFL’s superstars would be traded against their will NBA-style under a radical proposal raised by the league as part of its pay talks with the AFL Players’ Association.
And the league has for the first time officially asked the AFLPA to consider a mid-season trade period under the next collective bargaining agreement to help increase player movement across clubs.”

What about the restraint of trade laws? Wouldn’t that come into effect at times? If this is still about the so called club equalisation process allowing for sanctioned poaching and corruption, then this totally organised shit and active and purposefully shaping of clubs would have gone too far for most of us I reckon

I made a $50 bet you’d agree with the AFL, thanks mate. What'sinaname wrote:Excellent. At the moment, the players seem to have all the power - demanding where they want to be traded and it's an exception to see a player not traded to the club they want.
Now the club can move a player on to the highest bidder.

Betting with yourself isn't really a bet. You know that right?Mr Miyagi wrote:I made a $50 bet you’d agree with the AFL, thanks mate. What'sinaname wrote:Excellent. Anyway, every other decision the AFL has made to enhance player mobility (following US sports) has made the game better.

Fair enough opinion from you but would you like to comment on the points I made for the sake of a discussion dude? What'sinaname wrote:Excellent. What exactly is being restrained? How is a club trading a player to a team different to a team drafting a player?lazzadesilva wrote:Fair enough opinion from you but would you like to comment on the points I made for the sake of a discussion dude? What'sinaname wrote:Excellent. The only conspiracy theory here is who you really barrack for.
Maybe read the details. What could possibly go wrong. Or are you happy with the Treloar and Grundy trades?
‘It’s ridiculous’: AFL players reject trading without consent
Paul Marsh.
A club push to allow contracted footballers to be traded against their will has met with fierce resistance from players as their union negotiates a new collective bargaining agreement with the league.

I don’t think there is a conspiracy, just that I could see the club’s hand being forced at times to do the AFL’s bidding, depending on which player at which club the AFL want. Nothing is ever cut and dry with the AFL. They will have wriggle room until the process is clear and then set it in concrete. What'sinaname wrote:I was just waiting for the conspiracy theory to emerge.
