I watched The Fantastic 4, Rise of the Silver Surfer, and quite enjoyed it.

A few key points.

Jessica Alba shouldn't be blonde, it reduces her hotness from an 11 to a 10 .

I didn't realise (or had forgotten) that Captain America had previously been the Human Torch.

Whoever the hell Julian McMahon's father was, it damn sure wasn't Billy.

Babylon (2022)

I love my epic movies (Giant, Laurence of Arabia, Dr.Zhivago), but this was long, and I mean long. At 3hrs 9 minutes, without an old timey intermission, well it was a battle to hang on. An old matron behind us fell asleep, and much to the bemusement of patrons around her, she started snoring at post Christmas lunch on the floor level.

An original enough epic set in 1920s Los Angeles, led by Pitt, Robbie and Calva. The plot centeres around Hollywood’s transition from silent to sound films, all while traversing across an era of unbridled decadence, scandal and depravity. And there's plenty of that in the film, it wouldn't have been difficult to being allocated an R rating, and perhaps not too long ago an X rating.

I believe the main characters (Pitt & Robbie) are loosely based on actors John Gilbert / John Barrymore and Clara Bow.
Gilbert one of the silent era’s most successful actors career suffered an almost total collapse in the transition from silent to talkies.
Barrymore like Gilbert, was 4 times married and whose alcoholism found them never far from controversy.
In 1927, Clara Bow was the no.1 star in America. Bow however flamed out fast, retiring in 1931 amid a tangle of scandals, she was all of 28 years old.
Her refusal to dispose of her attitude and accent, was the embodiment of all that was “new money” and “trashy” about Hollywood, and this played out in one scene in particular.

Jean Smart who played Elinor St. John, might have been in line for a best supporting actress gong, if her role was fleshed out a bit more. Her dialogue with Pitt towards the end off the film was particulalry well delivered.

The music is a highlight. For anyone that enjoyed the German Babylon Berlin, it's no co-incidence there parallels to be drawn from the nightclub scences and jazz music.

Still, while having all the attributes to draw in an audience, all in all it'll fall short of being a classic. The first half set a cracking pace, with some laugh out loud scences, but it couldn't keep its feet in the second, and perhaps a better editior might have tightened up the final cut.

The US remake is based on the Swedish: “A Man Called Ove” which I was recommending a short while ago on SBS on demand, a gorgeous film.

OK, bit the bullet and watch Texas Chainsaw Maccacre (1970's version). Turned it off with about 20 mins or so to go, soon after grandpa sucked the blood from missy's finger.

What a shit movie. Just diabolical. There is not one redeeming feature to this shit show.

I've been showing my girlfriend the Final Destination movies, we're onto the third one so far she's enjoying them. She's not much of a horror fan.

The new magic Mike. I fell asleep twice, my girlfriends were laughing at me and waking me up! The dance scene at the end in water us tricking amazing, aside from that, ugh, good when your tired!

The Rundown, 2003 movie starring The Rock when he had hair. Actually really good fun action flick.
