AFLW 2023 - Playing List & Movements
Collingwood have confirmed that Chloe Molloy will be leaving the club:
https://www.collingwoodfc.com.au/news/1 ... loe-molloy
Chloe will be signed as the Swans marquee player, on a bigger contract than what the Pies can offer, plus marketing opportunities. She will also be working for Foxsports in Sydney. The AFLW have been keen for some to have a top player move to Sydney in order to market & expand the game in Sydney (similar to the Buddy move) and Chloe fits the bill.
Other players mooted to be moving are:
Mikala Cann to Hawthorn
Jaimee Lambert & Steph Chiocci to St Kilda. (this may involve a player swap)
Moves based on money and some dissatisfaction with the coaching at the Pies.
https://www.womens.afl/news/118320/magp ... -huge-move
"The AFLW's Sign and Trade Period rules dictate that Collingwood can only lose two players to expansion teams under 'priority signing period' rules, courtesy of the Pies having finished last season between fifth and eighth on the ladder.
The Pies may also be eligible to receive compensation as a result of losing Molloy to the Swans, with the League to determine whether clubs will have access to draft picks ahead of Season Nine (in 2024) depending on who they lose."

Dark Beanie still baffled on if there is any dissatifaction at the Pies in the aflw.
All i know that now its become whos paying more and like its become a business.
Lossing Molloy sucks but so too Cann,Lambert and Chiocci of whom is our top players.
Expect a fall out at Collingwood with the way the aflw is doing this with the expansion of the aflw way to fast at the expense of clubs like Pies say.
Pies wont get anything back either.
And was looking good as we have Davey and Bonnici back but then this.
I feel its all about the $ the aflw now a days
Wish it was run more like the vflw.

Lambert will be a loss as she can play forward & midfield and is a regular goal kicker.
Chiocci is a good leader but her impact on games has diminished over the past 2 seasons.
Pies will get Davey and Bonicci back for the upcoming season (whenever that is). Getting back 2 of our best players will help to negate any losses.
With the Hawks getting Emily Bates in the PSP, I wonder how this will impact Canns mooted move to the Hawks. She did get more midfield time in Daveys absence and was seeking a on ball role at the Hawks.
Note that we can only lose 1 more player via the PSP, so any players wanting move on may have to rely on a trade.

No other players have gone to date.
So far, apart from Molloy and Bates, the PSP has been quite underwhelming.
Maybe there will be a flurry of signings in the next day or two.
Expect more action during the trade period which begins on 10 March and runs until 20 March - like the AFL trade period, 10 days is too long.

End of the PSP and 8 players were signed:

The only two I would consider big name signings were Chloe Molloy and Emily Bates.
Trade period starts this Friday.

Steph Chiocci and Jaimee Lambert have been traded to the Saints:
https://www.womens.afl/news/118784/trad ... ew-colours
Welcome to Collingwood Tarni White (from Saints) and Grace Campbell (from North) and a first round selection.
Sad to see Choch and Choppy leave but appears to be a win for all as they were not entirely happy at the Pies towards the end of the last season. And the Pies get some younger talent to build on.

The sky hasn't quite fallen in yet.
We have a couple of new younger players and a 1st round pick.
Davey and Bonicci will be welcome returns and improve our midfield.
Cannot compete with clubs that are able to offer longer contracts and more $$.
And we do not need to hang to players who are not happy.
A change of scenery will be good for everyone.
