Happy for Smithy. :D
Yes, of course. It’s worth bearing in mind that he’s really just a bowling all-rounder.

Smith not only did damage with the bat (his series batting average after two Tests was higher than every South African player) but he has a better bowling average for the series than either of those two rabbits (19.5 versus 66.5 and 23.3, respectively).

"I thought the way Davey Warner and Steve Smith batted in the heat was as gutsy a cricket [performance] as you're ever going to get," Australia captain Pat Cummins said.

Good luck to Warner on his double today... but England will be as pleased to see him as Khawaja... And the wasteful run out of Marny was Warner's fault.
Returning after his retired "hurt" (i.e exhausted), Warner was bowled by a full toss. Reminds me of England's coach, Baz M., in 2015...

Wowee... look at all the run outs!! This Test, and in all Tests.

Insane! Run outs in Tests should be even rarer than centuries. Now there are way too many of both.

Cricket karma came for Elgar. After his disgusting comments on the Brissy pitch, he got run out in the 1st innings and caught down legside in the 2nd. Yep, karma.

Marny got that run out as fielder. Then he was run out as batter. Sheesh... I reckon that was Warner's fault.

Two more today, making four run outs in three innings!!
IIRC there were three run outs in the 2nd WI Test.

Some blame this on Slogathons... Hitting the ball straight to the fielder and still running. Caring more about stealing a run than saving their wickets. Most fielders are not good at hitting the stumps... but when you're in close and have three stumps to aim at...

And here's Oz's last great batsman, Ricky Ponting, commentating on Maharaj's run out. Bavuma did an FTB Smith and "absolutely BBQed his mate":

^ You only want to dismiss Elgar's comments on the Brisbane Test pitch because he had the temerity to say something different from your relentlessly vapid view.

As for your relentless bagging of the best Test batsman since Bradman, happily your pin-up boy has been - like the rest of the sensible cricket world - in awe of Smith for some time:
When Ricky Ponting, Australia's greatest run-scorer and most successful captain, is asked to describe Steve Smith in his current form, the first word that comes to mind is 'genius'.

....

Ponting says the mental hold [Smith] has on his opponents puts his incredible form on another level.

"You hear all sorts of words, 'genius' is one that comes to mind," Ponting told cricket.com.au when asked to sum up Smith's knock.

Updated top 10 highest Test run-scoring Australian batsmen of all time at the conclusion of the 2nd Test.

Here's the list:

RT Ponting 168 Tests 13,378
AR Border 156 Tests 11,174
SR Waugh 168 Tests 10,927
MJ Clarke 115 Tests 8,643
ML Hayden 103 Tests 8,625
SPD Smith 91 Tests 8,543
DA Warner 100 Tests 8,122
ME Waugh 128 Tests 8,029
JL Langer 105 Tests 7,696
MA Taylor 104 Tests 186 7,525

We have, of course, just been privileged to see two of those top 10 combine for the partnership that broke South Africa. South Africa first innings 189. South Africa second innings 204. Warner/Smith partnership 239.

Renshaw and Ashton Agar added to the squad fort the third Test.

Slap in the face for Marcus Harris. Has better form over the last months, than Renshaw.

Looks straightforward (if Warner recovers ok): Hazlewood in for Starc and Agar in for Green.
Donny.

It's a game. Enjoy it. :D

It's a pity Harris didn't get a chance - Renshaw has been around for a very long time and done very little. Just 636 runs in 11 Tests at the pathetic average of 33.47 - and it would look even worse if you took out the 184 he scored against Pakistan (and, even then, he made his runs in a team that knocked out 2 further centuries in that innings - and when quick runs were required for the declaration in the second innings, he didn't get a bat). He didn't reach 50 in his last 11 Test innings.

Craddock says:

S. Africa have played a world record 46 Tests without a draw. (23 wins, 23 losses.)

Zimbabwe are second on 26.

Craddock says S. Africa have lost the guts to save a Test.

The Oz XI has been finalised but not yet released.

"Australia captain Pat Cummins revealed the panel had settled on a final XI for tomorrow's Test but declined to release the names, noting he wasn't convinced five specialist bowlers would be needed but conceding uncapped fast bowler Lance Morris would not be aided by the dry conditions."

Australia is 1/30 at Drinks. SpecialK is 12* and Marnus is 6*. By the way, Hazlewood, Agar and Renshaw are in for Boland, Starc and Green. Very tough on Boland, really - when was the last time a fellow with a bowling average of 12.21 got himself dropped for team balance?

Khawaja given out, lbw. He immediately challenged. Ball hit glove first. Not out. 1/73.
