We got the 4 points which is the main thing but if anyone doesn't think that was a $hithouse game you're kidding yourselves. The Adelaide Crows are the worst of the worst who were hardly even trying for half the night. We've just managed to beat the potential wooden spooners, but I guess you have to start somewhere.

Richards was beaten in the ruck, but his improved work around the ground makes it hard for Stunning to get another game.
C2 has shown enough to give Bennifer the pink slip.
Shaw, looks hunted, or haunted. Even singing the song he looked like he may fumble.
Maxwell, nice to see a player debut who can hit a target!
Cole, getting better game by game. Should play 200 games with us and get a few medals around the neck.
Lonie, best game this year.
Leon, still looking out of sorts.
Didak, down on confidence. Wish he could get it back and fast.
Tarrant, 3rd game back from injury. Awesome.
Licuria. BOG.
Johnson, has become a consistent player for us, much like Licuria, he has taken the same path, a battler with poor foot skills to a great player with excellent disposal.
C1, back in town. He has to improve disposal to make his efforts pay for CFC.
MCG, what a ball magnet! But ffs, someone show him how to kick.

What a great game! Well done to all players as it was up hill all the way from the 1st quarter onwards.

Special mentions to:
-Richards (Very well played)
-Maxwell (Couldn't have played any better on debut. A cool head and will be Clements replacement in about 5 years)
-Licuria (Back in form and a terrific last quarter
-Johnson (Mr Dependable, that tackle in the dying seconds showed the passion he has for the club
-Tarrant (BOG - 5 great goals 7 or 8 fantastic marks - enough said!)
-Woewodin (Continues to improve)
-Wakelin (Stood up when counted in last half. Job well done on Carey)
-J.Cloke (Back in town)
-Richard Cole (Much improved)

All up a fantastic resault, as a win was the tonic we needed. Well done to all involved - a wonderful resalt.

Terrible game of football ... a real stinker.

We did our best to lose it, but in the end, Adelaide was just a bit too good at being bad.

I'm looking forward to hearing the Crow supporters whinging about that mark they didn't get in the dying stages. Made up for the one they did get paid in front of goal earlier in the game that they dropped.

And then there was that 12 point howler against Tarrant in the first quarter.

Should be a big week on 5AA

Gradually clawing our way back into the game showed a bit of character ... but some of those atrocious missed shots at goal and general all-round incompetence makes you wonder if maybe BOTH sides were tanking for draft picks and Adelaide "won".

Please ... can we spare the premiership talk.

I agree. When we get belted next week it will be back to the doldrums again. Adelaide were like a cheap hooker most of the night, ready to be taken, pleading to be taken, and we were lucky to get over the line. I did enjoy the win though.
Get back on top.

farkin McClaren

Post by drfranger »

nuff said bout the game - although it is good that the younger players had a win without the big guys -let them know they can do it without bucks, burns, fraser, holland etc.

but that umpiring was disgraceful

contender for worst ever

And we all owe Hird a big congratulations for highlighting what an absolute loser McClaren is - I was down on the boundary and some of the decisions he paid (or didn't) were unbelievable. HE doesn't deserve to umpire junior footy.

Oh JESUS thoselast 2 minutes was scary...

Woey BOG for mine, 6-7 tackles and 20+ possies, what we want from this classy player.
Richard Cole has finally earnt his spot! great game from the youngster, at least 4 great tackles and decent run off the halfback line.

They were the two most suprising and outstanding (in terms of unexpectedness) players i feel have to applaud.

Fairly average game from two fairly average teams, but when you're average (which we certainly are), you take any wins you can get!

SO GO THE PIES!!!

PS. Poor Didak he has lost all faith in himself  Someone needs to remind him that he's a gun...

Dids still was showing some signs, he was going in those one and two efforts. I thought Cammy still played a decent game, the key was he kept trying. Some improving signs, J.Cloke played well too keeping his cool, i think he likes having his bro in the team ;) Good to see that even though Richards was getting beaten in the ruck he was helping with the clearances and getting in there around the ground it was good to see him trying his heart out. It will be interesting when Fraser comes in now! but because Fraser has had a hammy they will probably stick him in the forward line that will help out our forwards greatly especially rocca. Good work done by Maxwell, he showed some good composure tonight that was great to see. Wakes, he's like Aragon from Lord of the Rings, he helped out so much tonight!! And good on Coley too, he seems to have gained some confidence and he was showing some goodsigns. Tazza just gets better with each game, he truly is a champ, never stops trying! Well done to Licca, Woey, Johnson and of course Clement as well in the backline. A credit to the whole team they poured there heart out and you could see the spirit still in them, which is so heartening for any Collingwood supporter. GO PIES! :D

from sherrife (posted in wrong thread)

To be perfectly honest, after that display we are nowhere near beginning our season. Tarrant was the only forward option, and when running out from half back was the only target who actually provided a decent lead! Absolutely carried us tonight did Taz, and we will forever be grateful.

All hail Tarrant, a God among Williamstowners.
Donny.

It's a game. Enjoy it. :D

He is still trying, but jeez his confidence in himself has been shot to pieces... i mean what kind of small forward handpasses to a lumbering CHF when on the run 30 metres from goal? A sadly out of form one. :? :( Best of luck to him and hopefully he remembers the composure and skill which he showed a couple of years back.

Match Review:

Score:
Collingwood: 9.14.68
Adelaide: 9.11.65.

Goals: Tarrant 5, Lonie, Didak, Richards, Rocca.

Best: Tarrant, Johnson, Licuria, Clement, Wakelin.

In a thrilling contest, Collingwood defeated Adelaide by 3 points in only its 2nd win for the season. In a scrappy affair all evening, Chris Tarrant's 5 goals stood out like a lighthouse in an otherwise scrappy match.

Adelaide got off to a flying start early with 5 first quarter goals. After Tarrant dribbled through a goal to level the scores, the Crows rammed on 4 quick goals to Jerico, Johncock, Hudson and McLeod. Only Paul Licuria, Tarrant, McGough and Lokan put up any resistance as the Crows ran out to a 24 point lead at the quarter time brake.

After an early goal to Scott Welsh from a dubious umpiring decision, it was all one way traffic, as it was apparant that Malthouse had given the side a rocket after a poor start. The spray inspired Collingwood as they peppered the goals all quarter, adding 3 goals 4 to the Crows 1 goal 3. After Rocca and Tarrant kicked two for the Pies, Ryan Lonie found space to deliver his 1st from 45 meters out to give the Pies some real momentum going into half time.

The intensity again lifted in the 3rd quarter as the Magpies again added 3 goals 4 to the Crows 1 goal 3. Collingwood's kicking in front of goal let them down on many occasions, with Cameron Cloke, Matthew Lokan and Alan Didak being the main offenders. Didak scored 3 behinds for the night. Tarrant continued to lift, as did Johnson, Licuria and new boy Nick Maxwell, who showed a cool head in defence and did not look overrawed by the occasion.

The difference at the 3 quarter time brake was 2 points Collingwood's way. It was the 1st time the Pies had led since midway trhough the 1st term. Didak booted his 1st for the night after a terrific mark from Tarrant while young Guy Richards has a memorable moment, with his 1st goal in league football. The Pies were again wayward infront of the big sticks, with Davis, Tarrant, Shaw and Lokan all spraying shots at goal. The Crows had one final fling, as they continually bombed the ball deep inside the 50, only to see Shane Wakelin stand tall along side James Clement, who also have a fine evning. In the tense final moments, Jason Cloke and Clement both sparyed kicks out on the full, allowing the Crows another chance for redemption. After McLeod slotted one through on the run after some good work from Carey, the Crows were only 3 points short and only needed one more goal to take the lead. However, it was not to be, as Johnson denied then any last chance with a terrific tackle on Massie as the siron sounded. Collingwood victors by 3 points.

Player Review:

Leon Davis: 3/10 - Was a spark early but not seen in the last 3 quarters.

Shane Woewodin: 7/20 - Solid game once again. Running into some really good form.

Ryan Lonie: 5/10 - Looked good early but faded after half time.

Alan Didak: 6/10 - Constant threat all noht and unluky not to have 2 or 3 goals to his name.

James Clement: 8/10 - Mr Reliable was just that once again - reliable. Used the ball well and a cool head in defence.

Shane O'Bree: 5.5/10 - Got a lot of the ball but didn't always use it well.

Richard Cole: 6/10 - Much improved match. Gave run and drive from defence.

Shane Wakelin: 7.5/10 - Good match, great last quarter. Beat Carey all ends up and was one of the keys to holding on in that despirite last quarter.

Paul Licuria: 9/10 - Had a terrifc game and has run himself back into form which is a credit to himself.

Chris Tarrant: 9.5/10 - Almost the perfect game. Lead well, marked well, kicked 5 goals. BOG.

Guy Richards: 5/10 - Good in the ruck and around the ground. Will be betetr for playing against Clarke, one of the games best ruckmen.

Rhyce Shaw: 5/10 - Played quite well compared to his recent form. Seemed to be getting back to his 2003 form.

Anthony Rocca: 5/10 - Kept presenting but wasn't his night.

Ben Johnson: 9/10 - Once again close to BOG. Will win the Copeland by a street and is proving to be the new Gavin Brown.

Mark McGough: 5.5/10 - Good early and then faded out during the contest. Constant ball magnet who needs to develop a little bit more awareness.

Matthew Lokan: 4/10 - Good 1st term then faded.

Luke Mullins: 4/10 - Showed some good signs with some cool thinking.

Cameron Cloke: 4.5/10 - Took some good marks and lead well. Continues to impress.

Jason Cloke: 7/10 - Now back top his 2002 form as a loose man. Great game and Adelaide couln't find a way around him. Made costly error late in the match.

Dane Swan: 4/10 - Quiet night compared to recent standeds.

Nick Maxwell: 6/10 - Showed a cool head and looks a great mark. Once he fills out he will become a reliable defender for years to come.

Well Done Pies! Lets come out next week and knock off the Roos!

Agree mostly with the rankings of maggies2003!

Well Done young blokes:

In the dying stages Maxwell showed great composure when the ball went Adelaide's way from the bouncedown to body out his opponent - even though we turned it over it was excellent work - showed great spirit all night!

C2 is fantastic in the air - he always gives an aerial contest and more often than not he marks the ball even when contested - enormously valuable.

Guy Richard's ground skills are great - Maybe a few tips from Josh!

Just stopped smiling and punching the air from the enjoyment of victory!
I'll wait until tomorrow to think about how poor our opposition were.
Life is very short and there's not time for fussing and fighting my friends!
