He'll probably end up a bloody champion at Essendon. Who do you think they'll give us for him??sherrife wrote:Cole i agree may become a good player for another team, but if we can get an established player for him, it is a win-win situation. The only thing Williams needs to do is contact some local suburban teams & ask them if they're short of players. And he can take Kinnear with him!!.grims wrote:Williams needs to do one of 2 things, learn how to kick for goal or start passing the ball.
grims wrote:Ben Kinnear as people have stated is not a league footballer, we are better served to put Cameron Cloke in his place.
Cameron Cloke should play every game for the rest of the season.

Collingwood vs St.Kilda: Match Review
Collingwood slumped to their 6th straight defeat on Saturday night as St.Kilda ran away in the last quarter with a win by 47 points. Collingwood put up a good performance and stayed with the Saints all night until they crumbled under the weight of numbers in the last quarter.
After Tarrant scored his 1st to level the scores at 1 goal 1 all, the Saints zoomed to a 30 point lead at quarter time. Only Woewodin, Johnson and Richards being able to keep up with the top team, the Saints got numbers at the contest and were able to clear the ball up to their tall forwards time and time again. Matthew Lokan copped a heavy knock from Saints tough man Brent Guerra, which is sure to receive a lot of media exposure during the week.
In the 2nd quarter, the Saints consolidated their lead and at one stage seemed as if a ten goal win was on the cards until the Maggies came back with goals to Tarrant and a great crumbing goal to Mark McGough, who was sent to the bench by Mick Malthouse as soon as the ball was returned to the centre. Dane Swan had an opportunity to score the Magpies third in a row and put a scare into the Saints camp but sprayed it to the near side. Rocca and Johnson spent the quarter trying to lift the side but to no avail.
The 3rd quarter signalled a Collingwood revival with six goals. The only down side to the amount of goals score was the St.Kilda answer to almost every goal as they added 5 majors for the quarter. Tarrant, Didak, Rocca and Johnson were the goal scorers. Johnson’s goal sparked the side into action immediately at the start of the quarter and the goals rolled on after that. Alan Didak, hardly sighted for most of the night, sprung to prominence with a spectacular mark and then goal to put the Pies within 20 point. Shane Woewodin had the opportunity to put the Maggies within 3 goals but sprayed a kick out on the full, from which the Saints ran the ball to full forward for a goal which broke the Pies back to lead by 30 points at the brake.
In the last quarter, the Pies desperately needed a goal to kick start a last quarter victory but the 1st goal went to the saints, which effectively ended the Pies night. Chris Tarrant and Ben Johnson tried hard to keep the Pies in it but to no avail. In a sour end to the night, a coke bottle was thrown at Fraser Gherig and a Saints supporter charged through the middle of the ground before being ejected by ground staff. It was an improved performance by Collingwood, but much improvement is needed if they are to make any inroads into the 2004 season.
Player Review:
Leon Davis: 1/10 – Hardly sighted.
Shane Woewodin: 8/10 – Very good match, did his job well.
Ryan Lonie: 1/10 – Too many mistakes, low on confidence. Wrong match up on Koschitzkie. Williamstown beckons.
Alan Didak: 3/10 – Took a great mark in the 3rd quarter but that was the only notable aspect of his games.
James Clement: 6/10 – Did a good job on Gherig, even though Gherig kicked 5 goals.
Shane O’Bree: 5/10 – Got 20 possessions but wasn’t effective.
Richard Cole: 5/10 – Better than in previous weeks but much work to do.
Shane Wakelin: 3/10 – Spent the 1st quarter on the pine in a surprise move and didn’t do much when on.
Bo Nixon: 2/10 – Made a few mistakes but only his 3rd match. Nothing much to look into.
Paul Licuria: 6/10 – Tried hard and may have turned the corner.
Andrew Williams: 1.5/10 – Barely sighted.
Chris Tarrant: 8/10 – Played his heart out with 4 goals. Well played.
Guy Richards: 7/10 – Best match so far. Made a contest, marked well and showed great skill.
Anthony Rocca: 7/10 – Did a very good job and lead well.
Ben Johnson: 9/10 – BOG. Ran hard and never gave up. Kicked a great goal on the run at the start of the 3rd.
Mark McGough: 5/10 – Spent much time on the bench but when he was on used it well.
Ben Kinnear: 2/10 – Barely seen in his 50th game.
Matthew Lokan: 1/10 – Copped a heavy knock in the 1st minute which effectively ended his match.
Luke Mullins: 2/10 – Hardly sighted in only his 2nd match.
Jason Cloke: 3/10 – Had the job on Hamill and did ok.
Dane Swan: 4/10 – Not as good as in recent weeks but did his job effectively.

A few people have questioned why McGough was taken off immediately after kicking a goal. I haven't checked the tape so I can be proven wrong, but I think you'll find that the runner delivering the message was on the ground with the message BEFORE McGough kicked the goal and delivered it just after or just before the goal was kicked. Either way, the runner in question is not going to run back to the bench to check that the coach still wants the player off. He delivers the message given to him, regardless of what the player has just done.

Apart from Didak, we lack class and 'cockiness' with the pill.
We are too slow around stoppages, and don't create nearly as much run as is needed.
St Kilda have taken a leaf out of Brisbane's book - they ALL run ahead of play before they have possession. Almost guranteed a shot at goal if a teammate gets hands on the ball at the stoppage. MM, stop playing 'percentages' and start instructing our players to take risks and run ahead of play. We actually did this during our 3rd quarter revival out od the centre square to great effect. On TV you wouldn't have been able to tell, but I was at TD, and St Kilda were free all over the ground, particularly on the wing and half forward - certain goal generated through 'cheating' ahead of play. BUT IT WORKS!
We need confident, cocky, arrogant players to win a premiership MM, not 'upstanding citizens of the community'.
MM - "Our job is to mould them as people."
No, as a member, I tell you that your formeost job is to win games of football. I don't care if they're a bunch of pr!cks. Look at Brisbane - their whole team are a bunch of @ssholes. Give me a pr!ck with football ability any day. "But Kinnear is such a nice guy...he'll fit right in at Collingwood."

His chasing of opposition players left a lot to be desired. He needs to learn that defense is as important as possession. I would have had him off the ground for longer.Mick's My Favourite wrote:Why - take McGough off as soon as he kicks a goal and leave him off for the whole 3rd Quarter
Match-ups. Who would you have put him on? The physically stronger Gehrig or the faster, taller Reiwoldt or Koz (however you spell it).Mick's My Favourite wrote:Why - not start our best defender Wakelin????????
Who else did you have in mind? I don't think Lonie is a third tall defender but without Presti in the side someone has to do it.Mick's My Favourite wrote:Why - have Lonie play on Kositzche??
Who would have done better? Until Gehrig kicked a few in the last quarter Clement did a bloody good job.Mick's My Favourite wrote:Why keep Clement on Gehrig? When he is 8kg lghter? Clement not only got beaten but hardly got a chance ot turn defence into attack.
We did. Tristan Walker was not up to the job. Maybe we should have given the job to O'Bree as I suggested last week.Mick's My Favourite wrote:Why not man up Rewoldt?
Because when Mullins was on the ground he did nothing.Mick's My Favourite wrote:Why keep Mullins on the bench for most of the game?
You are nothing but a sniper. Plenty of criticism but nothing positive. I suggest you put up or shut up.Mick's My Favourite wrote:I reckon Mick must have beem asleep in the booth for much of the match cause unless he is trying to implement the Mandate, he had a shocker!

labrooy - looks like you weren't at the game at all
McGough was the only one getting the pill for a long time. His offense outweighs his defence sny day, especially as we had a run on and especially as he just kicked a goal
Wakelin is our best defender - he would have been a better choice on Gehrig, Rewoldt or Kositzche
play Wakelin on Gehrig, Clement on Rewoldt and Cloke on Kostizche
No 1 defender on No 1 attacker, No 2 defender on No 2 attacker, 3 on 3 etc.
Walker was killed by Rewoldt and Lonnie was killed by Kostinske.
Mick never went with our best defensive formation for the night and that in itself is a tragedy.
labrooy - mullens was on the ground for 15 minutes - he had no real chance to show himself. Malthouse did the same thing to Mullens, that he did to Bo Nixon in his first two games.
Labrooy - I have ideas, you have nothing. Everything I say is positive. I ALWAYS put up! I have ten times the football brain you have.
If you allegedly love the Pies so much, why don't you say something usefull for a change?

You misunderstand ... we want quality young men who are agrresive on the field. We all hate Brisbane but off field I cant think of anything they have done wrong. You dont hear about Brisbane players drink driving, missing training, being drunk, etc, etc..DaicosMagic wrote:We need confident, cocky, arrogant players to win a premiership MM, not 'upstanding citizens of the community'.

Dont confuse agression and confidence on the field with being a quality person. Bucks is a quality person, Voss is a quality person, Hird is a quality person. Are any of them soft on the field?

For a while we had the Saints worried when we had all the momentum in the 3rd qtr. This from the bottom team on the ladder who were basically playing half their reserve squad.
These Saints are talking premierships and they only just got over the line against our reserves. I think if we had a full list to choose from it could well have been a different story.
Every year a number of teams peak too early, could it be the Saints this year? Port got beat by 100 points, Demons got beat by the Cats, could be them too.
