You'd like to think so wouldn't you, however, MM did exactly the same thing to MCG when we were playing Essendon (I think it was), as soon as he goaled, he was pulled off the ground IMMEDIATELY. So it's now happened more than once to the same person, just think if MM left him on the ground, he might kick more! Heaven forbid!peter_pies4ever wrote:I think McGough came off after he kicked that goal as part of the rotation system.

ARGH!! How was he meant to man up on an in-form, highly successful ruckman turned forward? Do any of you think that even bloody lenny hayes could beat fraser one-on-one in defense? Get a grip people, shitty coaching by MM. I think we can assume that MM thought that since K was not much of a threat with gehrig/hamill/riewoldt in form, lonie would be free to run off. However after 2 goals in the first 5 minutes from k (just from memory) this was clearly not working.Lonie was played on Koschitzkie because he needed the experiance. MM would have wanted to see if he would sink or swim. He sank.
Basically, MM underestimated Kozitscke and we paid the price.

Some really hard work was done by Woey, Johno (has to be leading in the Copeland voting), Tazz and Lica. Richards is constantly improving which I think will definitely create a position up forward for Josh.
Would like to know what was wrong with Wakes - every time he got on the ground he did some great stuff - definitely a mystery. And it is frustrating seeing Goughy off the ground when he's obviously a ball magnet but I'm sure they're nursing him through his OP recovery which should benefit him and the team in the long run.
Clemo tried but was just out-muscled. O'Bree is getting the ball but needs to be more dangerous with his posessions. Rocca should be killing his opposition with his strength and experience but goes missing too often. I'd definitely keep Lonie in the team - I just don't think the backline is his best position (and that's where he unfortunately makes the odd stuff-up!), I'd like to see him on the wing and in distance of the big sticks. I don't know why Jason gets absolutely slaughtered by some his own supporters - he's still young and has a lot to learn but he'll never step back from a competition which is something our whole team could be doing more of.
Swan had his quietest game for a while and the 'kids' show promise but obviously have a lot to learn yet (ie. Walker, Mullins, Nixon). For me, the really disappointing players were Davis and Didak (these small forwards need to be far more consistent). And Lokan, Cole and Williams really need to take a good hard look at themselves and whether they want an AFL career - they have all shown promise but just haven't delivered. And although I think Kinnear is a great guy he is not an AFL level footballer - I'd rather see McKee in the side - the new ruck rules may not suit him but he can still be damaging around the ground.
Not a disastrous performance, as we fought the game out but we're never going to be competitive enough until we either get our top players back in the side OR some of the middle level players really take a big step up.
Things look pretty depressing at the moment and it's definitely going to be a long season but I think there are still positives (particulary if we can recruit well at end of season) for the future. Seasn 2004 is just a hiccup in our progression!
GO PIES!

Lokan is excused because he was smashed by Guerra in the first quarter. The rest are not going anywhere. Cole i agree may become a good player for another team, but if we can get an established player for him, it is a win-win situation. Often being traded is the imputus players need to actually play to their full potential (ie. murphy).MargOZ wrote:And Lokan, Cole and Williams really need to take a good hard look at themselves and whether they want an AFL career - they have all shown promise but just haven't delivered.

If you actually paid any attention, you would see that Lokan was one of only a few who went in hard and chased even harder all night. There were many times where the opposition players were running freely though 2 or 3 magpies who seemed to be more interested in watching than chasing. Lokan was not one of them.

I certainly hope so. You could pick out his clean hands under pressure when others fumbled around and lost c9ontrol of the footy.peter_pies4ever wrote:I think McGough came off after he kicked that goal as part of the rotation system.
That should be the reason yet he has played so well in his 4 games this season.Joel wrote:McGough is not playing out full games because of the OP he suffered. They are restricting the amount of game time he gets because of this reason, and have said so several times this season.

Re: Post match vs Aints
They should be dropped NOW!!!! And as a lifelong Williamstown supporter, we dont want them either. I'd rather play a couple of kids who'll at least try their guts out. At least when they make a mistake it'll be because they're having a go.melissa wrote: If I were Mick Andrew Williams would be dropped at the end of the year, along with Kinnear who did sweet FA. That's my take on the game, sue me.

One thing that frustrates me is that they bring in Nixon and Mullins but give them limited time on the ground. What's the point?
The last two years these guys haven't been able to get a game because of our good run with injuries but now it is time because we need to see if they can play football!
King had to go back and play for Willi because he got no game time what so over and now the same will be done with Mullins and Nixon.
I would like to see Shaw get a game next week, he hasn't done anything wrong this year. It was like they were blaming him for the team's downfall by dropping him for the game against Port.
Thoughts on Jason Cloke?
Once again he annoys me, players were free in the forward line and he was the spare man but didn't go to them. I always thought he was a good reader of the football but last night I changed my mind.
To those bagging Cole- on the Pies website last week they said they were surprised he played due to injury. I thought he did look a bit slow off the mark and didn't have the same flaire he has had in previous weeks. I don't know why people are getting stuck into him, the game against Essendon he showed some good signs and he did have an interrupted preseason due to the flu. Go Coley!
Well Done to Taz ( Schwarze you are a ****head), Johnno, Lica, Woey and Richards.
Still need that team effort
GO PIES, cant wait till next Friday Night

Would we not be better playing Rocca from the goal square and Tarrant up the ground for a full game now that Taz has two games under his belt? Let Rocca use his muscle ala Lynch and Gehrig and let Taz run the defence ragged as he does best. Bring McKee back in so Rocca doesn't need to back up in the ruck, even if Fraser is back, and play Fraser in the forward line if he is back this week to double team with Rocca. Kick long to Rocca in the square, move it quickly with Taz running all game if he is fit enough, and make Didak and Davis earn their keep as forward crummers ala Milne last night.
I don't claim to be much of an expert compared to most who get to go to the games week in week out but all year I have been hanging to see Rocca play from the goal mouth as a true full forward, especially now that Taz is back.

Williams needs to do one of 2 things, learn how to kick for goal or start passing the ball. If he can't do either then he doesn't have a place in the side. He is a good mark for his size and has pretty good size, just needs to be a bit smarter. Ben Kinnear as people have stated is not a league footballer, we are better served to put Cameron Cloke in his place. I saw a lot of good signs from todays game and we are definately on the improve.
