I rarely comment on umpiring, because it is often used an an excuse to camouflage poor play. But......seriously, Port were gifted at least 4 goals by the umps, a trend which started before the first bounce!!
Aside from that, it was a gutsy win by the Pies against a hard team playing to keep their season alive. Losing Adams and Howe made the win more commendable.
Anyone who doubts the worth of De Goey, watch a replay of this game. His power and presence around packs was match-winning stuff. We need to keep him if we are to keep our Premiership window open over the next few years.
'Magic' Johnson is a beauty. Ginni needs to just play the ball and don't expect to get any free kicks regardless of how he is tackled. He is a natural crumbing forward specialist.
I thought it was Lipinski's best game for a few weeks, and the best 2nd half from WHE. Bianco had a few bad errors in the first quarter, but had a good impact later, especially in the final quarter. Carmichael can play!
Cameron is very good all over the ground, despite not often being recognised for his performance by a lot of Pies supporters.
With Grundy and Checkers due to return next week, we should be even stronger, which we will need to be to get over the Dees.
10 in a row! Go Pies.

I get frustrated with the umpires because as a rule I don’t give them the time of day but geez you can’t be stuck in utter denial that their performances at the moment are crook

Exactly RB. And I’m pissed off that the Martians are causing people like us who don’t really GAF about umpiring because it is a necessary function, to notice how shit they are week after week (I’d forgive them for one or two bad games because that’s a given) but so many this season? Seriously?RudeBoy wrote:I rarely comment on umpiring, because it is often used an an excuse to camouflage poor play. That wasn’t a howler. Was a correct non award. Listen to ray chamberlains explanation on the Whateley show.[/quote]piffdog wrote:So far this season I can only recall one howler that went our way and that was last weeks Murphy non 50 metre penalty before the winning goal.rambler wrote:Notice we NEVER EVER get a controversial decision our way?
We've had to endure multiple anti-Ginni highs, that Moore deliberate rushed behind and todays abominations to name just a few.
One that really set me off was McReary's textbook tackle on Dusty being paid high. It ruined our momentum when the game was hot.
That was technically correct because the umpire hadn’t entirely motioned the free kick with his arms. It’s not when the whistle is blown (cos the whistle could be for anything) but it’s when the umpire motions and points. Technically correct non call.

It was, except for the deaf as a post umpire Robinson who didn’t hear the final siren in the 1977 night GF until Kerry Good had marked the ball many seconds after the siren and kicked the winning goal for NorthPiesnchess wrote:WhyPhilWhy? wrote:Did the umpiring appear as disgraceful on the TV as it appeared at the ground? Mate, you know, and i thiink your from my vintage, i honestly believe the umpiring was far better, fairer, back in the day, of just two field umpires, or even yep, way back, of only one umpire. Like the days of Jeff Crouch, and Bill Deller, John James, the aboriginal, it was better then

You obviously didn’t watch the game. You of all posters should know that the free kick numbers mean Jack shit. It’s where the Martians pull them out of their arse.eddiesmith wrote:Didn’t watch but free kicks 23-18 the Pies way doesn’t suggest the one sided anti Pies umpiring display this thread is hinting at?
