^ I thought he definitely went for a bounce and then slipped, rotten luck but the right call.
It never ceases to amaze me how you can have two people see the same vision from opposing supporter groups and they both think they are right. Although at the footy I occasionally have opposition fans say that the umps got it wrong and it was or wasn't a free to the opposition. As much as you can try to be objective your inner bias plays through on occasion, we're all human, well maybe except for certain umpires that is...

^Howey rarely bounces. I could be wrong, though, so I'll take your word for it.

Stevic made two shocking calls - you are right about Howe - it should have been holding the man. The non free to Ginnivan was a disgraceJohnno75 wrote:What did anyone think of Stevic call on Howe for HTB in the last minute. He says “In the act of bouncing” but as I see it Howe slips which causes the ball to spill and the tackle came after. I don’t think he was bouncing anyway.
Daicos, impossible angle ... Goal!

Re: umpiring
Even if we put all else aside - and I rarely comment on umpiring because I don't think it's a good mindset - the call on Ginnivan was disgraceful, undermining the game and reducing it to mob rule. But I blame the way the situation has been handled from the start, and the vile, unsporting lowlife grifters and parasites in the media, not the specific umpire.orie wrote:Did anyone else hear Bucks say that the umpiring was really good considering there were so many tackles laid. Of course they didn't get them all rights but to be fair" the umpiring was good. They weren't noticed in the first half.".he said.

Have watched the game. I’m pretty vocal in support for umpires especially when people call out they cheat or some afl conspiracy.
For mine there were 3 clearly incorrect calls 2:1 for us.
1. Ginni was high. Did not drop. Bad call against us.
2. Nick Daicos clearly tugged on a jumper in the 4th at their CHF. Call for us.
3. Pendles clearly threw the ball after being tackled in the 4th on a wing. Call for us.
Everything else for mine was either clear or 50:50 and you can’t really count them as bad calls. Kinda like umpires call on an LBW.

The match day thread is for unfiltered BS knee jerk reactions. The time for level headed comment comes after.

They also leta couple of throws go for them, so you can’t really call a missed throw a call for us as they are very hard to see at the best of times.
The free kick against Cox in the ruck when he was blocked was disgraceful, they also missed an obvious free to Cox in the goal square but Johnson marked it anyway so no harm done.

Not strictly about umpiring, so much as the rules themselve, but I would like to see the AFL ban the sling tackle, where a player is thrown sideways to the ground.
The rule used to be that you could retard a player with a tackle, now it seems to be that you can slam tackle. The game is hard enough on bodies without the need for extra damage being inflicted. It is a physical game, but injury is not the point of it.

Not only was it holding the ball but we were lucky to not concede a 50m penalty when Murphy kicked the ball away.pietillidie wrote:AnthonyC wrote:^ I thought he definitely went for a bounce and then slipped, rotten luck but the right call. You were right, Anthony, good call. Even after the missed high tackle, he did this in the second quarter. Even though the play was whistled dead, this is what Ginnivan needs to stop doing.
Rather than handball to Mihocek and keep the play alive, Ginnivan looks to go low into the tackle.

Yeah, I think you might be right. I loved Howey's humility in the interview afterwards, bagging himself for doing his best to lose it. Top bloke. He'll be cherry ripe after another game or two.slangman wrote:Not only was it holding the ball but we were lucky to not concede a 50m penalty when Murphy kicked the ball away.pietillidie wrote:AnthonyC wrote:^ I thought he definitely went for a bounce and then slipped, rotten luck but the right call. You were right, Anthony, good call. In fact, it crossed my mind a few times how impressive our sportsmanship was during the game. Little things like helping opponents up, checking they weren't hurt, comforting them after the game. Just little signals of decency, which I reckon shows a deep confidence.

There's a bit of cultural cringe in that, though, What'sinaname. Do you know what that expression means? It means you're being too readily embarrassed by outsiders into blaming your own lad unnecessarily. The offending decision was outrageous, and was a free kick on its merits all day long, every day of the week, and was universally believed to be so. Nothing else matters, which is of fundamental importance to the reputation of a professional fraternity of adjudication.
